Xbox 360's Infinite Undiscovery dated

Square Enix RPG worldwide in September.

Square Enix's Xbox 360-exclusive RPG Infinite Undiscovery will be released worldwide in September - on the 2nd in North America and on the 5th in Europe.

Put together by Star Ocean developer tri-Ace, Infinite Undiscovery is the story of a young boy who has to save the world after the Order of Chains ties up the moon at the behest of the evil Dreadknight.

Binding the moon in chains inevitably spreads "foul and deadly creatures" across the land, so you and other adventurers plucked from a pool of 18 have to go out and punch them.

"As players are faced with a variety of episodic situational battles, they will discover that they may have to try various methods to defeat the enemy, where the most obvious solution is rarely the right move," says Square Enix of the battle system.

"Snipe distant enemies with the help of a bow-wielding ally or skilled magic user. Based on each player's decisions, the intricate environments will offer a variety of experiences, presented in a way never before seen in RPGs."

Presumably all will become clear when we get our hands on Infinite Undiscovery nearer to its release. Look out for a full review around then.

In the meantime, check out our screenshot gallery and trailer for more.

I hope it comes with Japanese voice overs just like Eternal Sonata - I really enjoyed that.

    Looking forward to this one.

Tri Ace made Baiten Kaitos, thus win.

Didn't expect to see this so soon. Awesome.

Maybe this year won't be so bad RPG-wise as I expected it to be.

What's going on with that other JRPG, it's a Square one i believe, apparently it's targeted more to Western audiences?

    Fairly sure they did not

I hope this uses a custom-built engine and not the UE3 because there's a tendency for those games to not only look a little... dare I say it... bland but also suffer from a multitude of issues like dodgy framerates, excessively long loading times, tearing and texture pop in as seen in Mass Effect and Lost Odyssey.

oops, put this in the gallery, meant to say in here

Oh no you're right it was "tri-Crescendo" just another division of the same company though as far as i'm aware, i believe they made Eternal Sonata as well.

Same guys that made Star Ocean you say? Where can I put my pre-order in? So glad its not the same guys who made Baten kaitos otherwise I'd not even give it a second look.

Really looking forward to this. I'm glad that I get to play more JRPGs on my 360 instead of having to turn to my trusty old PS2 or the PSP (for the strat rpgs).

I'm a bit confused though as I thought that The Last Remnant would be out before this one but hey-ho!

My only concern is it comes out a week after Too Human!
  • menage #16 4 years ago

I love my JRPG's, but the new trailer and especially the characters didn't look great to me. Game play wise it will be fine, but the designs annoy me.

Cool, looking forward to this one. 360 seems to get a decent fill of JRPGs this gen, more so than others for now. The best thing being that they're of a much higher standard than the ones that made there way to the original xbox.

Will sit nicely next to Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, and Eternal Sonata.

Hopefully last remnant will be good also. Even operation darkness filled a void for me.

@Darren: pop-up and tearing in Lost Odysssey ? I think you're wrong. I played LO for more than 100 hours and never experienced those.
  • Gradius #19 4 years ago

    @miiiguel

Lost Odyssey imo is one of the best JRPG's for years, there are very slight tearing issues though, I noticed it while in the city of Uhra once or twice, certainly nothing game breaking though. I don't recall noticing any pop up though. The only thing that I found a slight disappointment was the battle load times (although, again, nothing to spoil the game too much). even with the few niggles, I still would have given LO a 9/10 personally.

ah, not really fussed about the bit of tear and pop in though eh! Just pump out the good games!
  • andywilkie35 #23 4 years ago

going to be incredible, will keep me busy til Star Ocean 4!
  • aine #24 4 years ago

Surely the most important issue here is that undiscovery ISN'T EVEN A WORD
  • davisorle #25 4 years ago

Can't really tell from this trailer that's out. Though the things i read were more intresting about it

    Features :

The actions taken by the player with each discovery will have a real-time impact on the world.
Players will be confronted with a variety of dramatic “situational battles” such as executing a daring escape while a gigantic ogre follows in hot pursuit, or waging battle amidst towering tidal waves. The dynamic environments change and respond in real-time to player commands, creating an entirely new experience never before seen in the genre.
Combat, exploration, and other actions all take place within the same environment, seamlessly shifting between each game facet. Battles are carried out in real-time, bringing the vibrant fighting sequences of the STAR OCEAN series out of the traditional battle screen into a beautiful and lush environment.

So lets hope it's as said. then yeah, I think it will be worth buyng and spending some time with it.
  • hiddenranbir #26 4 years ago

Another dull story that I think I've been through before - and I don't think I can avoid it just for the 'gameplay'.
  • miiiguel #27 4 years ago

yeah, LO is quite good, the dreams are beautifully written and the text animations are lovely yet simple, but tbh, and most (if not all) ppl disagree with me, I liked Blue Dragon even more.
  • convercide #28 4 years ago

Rather generic looking. But then again I said that about Lost Odyssey and I've been bumming that for 90+ hours so far.
  • GamesConnoisseur #29 4 years ago

yeah loved the dream sequences and I m the one who never display tears in front of others and always presenting the macho geordie front!

LO is certainly a good game, deserving of the attention and finished it to the end. Intrigued by Undiscovery but will wait on the reviews, September is not far off though.

I fell in love with Blue Dragons aesthetics, since the begining (love at 1st sight), the way one starts playing while the opening credits are rolling, the aseptic voice off of a woman, saying "nothing", like in a minimal exercise towards the entire game. Freakin weird... lovely (it also helps the fact that I absolutly love Dragon Ball art). It has a big, big problem. While the combat system is great (better than LO, imo), it fails miserably, as its toooooo easy. Brainless easy. LO's is more balanced, as it has some good fights ("The Imortal" fight at the Backyard was pure fun!), but the system itself is a bit clunky, it seems they throw a bunch of ideas into the RPG rules spreadsheet, and didn't give it much love... .
LO ticks all jRPG boxes, and quite well, but never surprises. Definetly a great journey, nevertheless.
