Xbox 360 UT3 gets Euro date

Out here before the US.

Midway has told Eurogamer that the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament 3 will be heading here for 4th July. Or the day that Will Smith beat the aliens. That puts us a weekend ahead of the US for once, who will get the game the following Tuesday, 7th July.

Unreal Tournament 3 may sound old hat, given it appeared on PC last November and PS3 in February, but not so. Epic Games is ensuring there is some fresh content to get hold of, such as all the downloadable content bundled onto the retail disc, as well as five fresh maps, split-screen support and two more characters to do a spot of homicide with.

Given the Epic track record with Gears of War on Xbox 360, worries about performance should also be unfounded. And both PC and PS3 versions took home a solid 8/10.

There's rather a lot of stiff competition on Xbox 360, though, so does Epic think it can knock Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 off their Live Activity pedestals? "I wish," Epic boss Mark Rein told Eurogamer. "But realistically, and unfortunately, we don't have the marketing dollars behind our game that those games have.

"But I think the game is great on Xbox 360. It really rocks!"

Head over to our Xbox 360 Unreal Tournament 3 gamepage for all of our coverage to date, plus plenty more from the Rein's mouth.

How is all that possible without the Powa of da Blu Ray & teh cell

  • Darren #5 4 years ago

Unreal Tournament III actually appeared on the PS3 last December as the US version was region-free and so could be imported... and cheaper too (cost me just £30).

Welcome to last year guys. ;)

Could buy this - depends on whether I get original UT vibes from it.

Am very interested in how they are managing to cram everything onto that single DVD as well - I thought the 360 was supposed to be seriously lagging behind in the storage stakes by now...? ;-)

Are we going to me able to use a Keyboard and Mouse like the PC & PS3 version?
  • miiiguel #9 4 years ago

^^ hope not, "office desk gaming" sucks, imo.

Obviously the marketing puppets will tell you that.

sweet, another good FPS game for 360.

Much love to the twin stick terror.

What has the cruddy cell chip got to do with storage space, a couple of extra players and split screening? Is the poster implying that all this is only possible by this chip!?!?!?!
  • reddevil93 #13 4 years ago

    Very jealous PS3 owner here.

I'd love to have split-screen support. Maybe via a patch. Great game without it regardless.

tis a shame its shit compared to 2004 this one , just couldnt get into this one looks to much like gears , maps are bland and a tad too small , the new warfare modes arnt fun shame really love ut , lucky i got a good trade in at BB for this.
  • DUFFKING #15 4 years ago

I'm still not sure why 2004 is regarded as being so good :/ The level design was consistantly awful and the weaponry felt so unsatisfying.

And all the player models were 3 foot tall and were impossible to spot without brightskins on.

There's no problem with storage as the PS3 version would've fit onto a DVD in itself.
  • mazzl #17 4 years ago

wow another boring fps... sorry ;p
  • Darren #18 4 years ago

Actually UTIII is a lot of fun for a FPS, mainly due to the sheer variety of modes and maps. Puts most other FPSs to shame IMO.

i read that the xbox version is good, that by simply switching it on, a ps3 elsewhere in the world IMPLODES.

    that good.

Yeah, I think I read something similar... only this one said that an Xbox 360 elsewhere in the world RRODs! :p

But the 7th of July is a Monday...
  • TurboBailey #22 4 years ago

Its not that good - save yourself money and rent it first. I was largely disappointed.
  • Nithron #23 4 years ago

I honestly don't know why people have been slating this game, I thought it was awesome, and an upgrade on UT2k4. The addition of hoverboards meant there was no more slowly trudging around before you found a vehicle.

But then I got it for PC, for £13 at HMV. Probably a slightly better deal than the console versions, especially as it supports more players per map, and has better mod support than PS3. But then... No splitscreen.
  • Amoebalove #24 4 years ago

    @evilfoxhound

While I will agree that the mods are a great addition, having split screen is a bigger draw for me. I play a fair bit of multi-player with my son and we are both fans of UT3 on the PS3 and the only thing that lets it down is not being able to play split screen. It’s a personal thing I know but for some people having split screen will more than make up for the lack of mod support.

THIS is the only fps in PS3 that I realy enjoy. Probably because is the only with keyboard + mouse support; honestly I can't understand how some people can ckoice a pad to play fps; I can beat the A.I. at Masterful level of dificulty ( 6 of 8 ) in UT III, but barely at Skilled ( 4 of 8 ) with a pad.

Also, the game has good graphics, is stable and with a good network code and very fun. As a player from the previous versions in PC, UT III is not really a revolutionary advance over UT 2004, but the new feelings with the weapons are better than ever. Also, the game has some of the better maps ever deployed, with some masterpieces as Arsenal, Defiance, Sanctuary or Shangri La, with the incredible Sentinel, maybe the best 1 vs 1 map ever created. With the adition of remodeled maps as Deck or Deimos, this game is to me the best Team Deathmatch shooter in the market. And there is a good number of hardcore k+m players in the matches on PS3. Really the game deserves the 9/10 scored in EG.

Nice aditions like downloable contents and modding in the PS3 makes the game a must; maybe not as solid as in PC, but the work was really well done. A shame that the marketing and advertising was poor.

Anyway, even with the splitscreen ad, the Xbox 360 version can't come close to the PC and PS3 ones because the lack of k+m support and free contents & modding.
  • Wash #26 4 years ago

Whilst i agree K+m are ultimately much more intuitive for FPS, aslong as thiers a level playing field in the user base... i.e everyone using a pad, then its not a problem, also the 360 pad is 10*better for fps than the ps3 pad tbh.

    As for the mod thing?

  • DUFFKING #29 4 years ago

If the mods that were in Ut2004 (and those that I've seen in UTIII so far) are anything to go by, the truly good ones worth playing won't appear for a good year yet. All the gametypes I downloaded for UT2004 I got bored of pretty quickly, even awesome ones like Jailbreak...

Map downloads would be nice for 360 owners though.
  • t8yman #30 4 years ago

I'll be buying, getting a bit bored of cod4 now, and theres nowt else fpswise to play on the 360 that appeals, I had the ps3 version before I flogged my ps3 and I liked the game - I just hated the ps3 controller.
It looked nice, ran smoothly, and the hit detection/weapon choices were good. it was fast and furious.

COD4 needs new maps every quarter otherwise it gets a bit dull. I reckon this could grab a few people who feel the same as me.
  • Apostle #31 4 years ago

If this gets a 9/10 all hell is gonna break loose. ;)

Seriously though, I may consider trading in my PS3 copy for a 360 one, if I have nothing else to play at the time.
  • Darren #32 4 years ago

UT3 is aces... if you want a great online multiplayer game then it beats the hell out of the dullsville Gears of War, also from Epic, IMO.
  • SomaticSense #33 4 years ago

I'm actually really looking forward to this. My online gaming has all been about Halo 3 recently, but I loved Unreal Champoinship back when it launched with XBL on the old Xbox.

If it's at least as good as UC, then I'll be happy. The mods I couldn't care less about, as I'm strictly a console gamer, so what I don't know about I don't miss. Plus, Unreal games have always been the best at maps imo, and good maps and solid gameplay is all I want really.

As long as there is a mutator for Instagibs and the option for no AA again, then it'll take a lot to prise me away from this ;)
