Xbox 360 UT3 gets Euro date
Out here before the US.
Midway has told Eurogamer that the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament 3 will be heading here for 4th July. Or the day that Will Smith beat the aliens. That puts us a weekend ahead of the US for once, who will get the game the following Tuesday, 7th July.
Unreal Tournament 3 may sound old hat, given it appeared on PC last November and PS3 in February, but not so. Epic Games is ensuring there is some fresh content to get hold of, such as all the downloadable content bundled onto the retail disc, as well as five fresh maps, split-screen support and two more characters to do a spot of homicide with.
Given the Epic track record with Gears of War on Xbox 360, worries about performance should also be unfounded. And both PC and PS3 versions took home a solid 8/10.
There's rather a lot of stiff competition on Xbox 360, though, so does Epic think it can knock Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 off their Live Activity pedestals? "I wish," Epic boss Mark Rein told Eurogamer. "But realistically, and unfortunately, we don't have the marketing dollars behind our game that those games have.
"But I think the game is great on Xbox 360. It really rocks!"
Head over to our Xbox 360 Unreal Tournament 3 gamepage for all of our coverage to date, plus plenty more from the Rein's mouth.

Am very interested in how they are managing to cram everything onto that single DVD as well - I thought the 360 was supposed to be seriously lagging behind in the storage stakes by now...?

Obviously the marketing puppets will tell you that.

Much love to the twin stick terror.

What has the cruddy cell chip got to do with storage space, a couple of extra players and split screening? Is the poster implying that all this is only possible by this chip!?!?!?!

I'd love to have split-screen support. Maybe via a patch. Great game without it regardless.

tis a shame its shit compared to 2004 this one , just couldnt get into this one looks to much like gears , maps are bland and a tad too small , the new warfare modes arnt fun shame really love ut , lucky i got a good trade in at BB for this.

Yeah, I think I read something similar... only this one said that an Xbox 360 elsewhere in the world RRODs!

But then I got it for PC, for £13 at HMV. Probably a slightly better deal than the console versions, especially as it supports more players per map, and has better mod support than PS3. But then... No splitscreen.

While I will agree that the mods are a great addition, having split screen is a bigger draw for me. I play a fair bit of multi-player with my son and we are both fans of UT3 on the PS3 and the only thing that lets it down is not being able to play split screen. It’s a personal thing I know but for some people having split screen will more than make up for the lack of mod support.

Also, the game has good graphics, is stable and with a good network code and very fun. As a player from the previous versions in PC, UT III is not really a revolutionary advance over UT 2004, but the new feelings with the weapons are better than ever. Also, the game has some of the better maps ever deployed, with some masterpieces as Arsenal, Defiance, Sanctuary or Shangri La, with the incredible Sentinel, maybe the best 1 vs 1 map ever created. With the adition of remodeled maps as Deck or Deimos, this game is to me the best Team Deathmatch shooter in the market. And there is a good number of hardcore k+m players in the matches on PS3. Really the game deserves the 9/10 scored in EG.
Nice aditions like downloable contents and modding in the PS3 makes the game a must; maybe not as solid as in PC, but the work was really well done. A shame that the marketing and advertising was poor.
Anyway, even with the splitscreen ad, the Xbox 360 version can't come close to the PC and PS3 ones because the lack of k+m support and free contents & modding.

Map downloads would be nice for 360 owners though.

It looked nice, ran smoothly, and the hit detection/weapon choices were good. it was fast and furious.
COD4 needs new maps every quarter otherwise it gets a bit dull. I reckon this could grab a few people who feel the same as me.

Seriously though, I may consider trading in my PS3 copy for a 360 one, if I have nothing else to play at the time.

If it's at least as good as UC, then I'll be happy. The mods I couldn't care less about, as I'm strictly a console gamer, so what I don't know about I don't miss. Plus, Unreal games have always been the best at maps imo, and good maps and solid gameplay is all I want really.
As long as there is a mutator for Instagibs and the option for no AA again, then it'll take a lot to prise me away from this
