Xbox 360 outselling PS3 two-to-one - MS

Sales have doubled since price cut.

Microsoft has said Xbox 360 sales have increased by 214 per cent following the simultaneous price cut of all three models in Europe.

The result has been Xbox 360 outselling rival system PS3 by more than two-to-one during the last two weeks, according to the Chart-Track figures.

"Our commitment to continuously improving and innovating new content, our new high-profile marketing campaign and the fact that we're now the best-value next-gen console on the market with an entry-level ERP of GBP 129.99 combine to make Xbox 360 the right blend of gaming and wider experiences at the right price to offer unparalleled entertainment for everyone. And these figures prove it," said Chris Lewis, Xbox 360 Euro boss.

On 19th September, Microsoft reduced the price of the Xbox 360 Arcade unit to GBP 129.99, the Xbox 360 Premium to GBP 169.99, and the Xbox 360 Elite to GBP 229.99.

Microsoft plans to drive more Xbox 360 sales this Christmas by releasing karaoke game Lips, Live Vision camera title You're in the Movies, and the redesigned family-friendly Xbox Live interface.

    214 percent, outselling two-to-one.

So...... PS3 was outselling the 360 before that then.

/Pesky maths - the bane of PR goons the world over.

Edit: Would also like to add that it remains to be seen if the momentum can be maintained or whether this is just a blip. Have to say, though, the timing could be right, as parents are starting to think about making Christmas purchases and a sustained selling period from now until Christmas could see the gap widen.

Two weeks is such a short timespan... pretty obvious that sales will increase a lot. They need to be able to keep this up until Xmas.

BTW is Chart-Track tracking EU sales or just UK???

Says chartracks (or what's the name). it's in the article...

anyway, so they sell twice as much numbers and the same revenue then (with the twice as expensive ps3)?
  • Diomedes #5 3 years ago

Mmm ...Uk is not Europe.360 is strong in Uk ,but very weak in the rest of the continent.
  • Dizzy #6 3 years ago

"anyway, so they sell twice as much numbers and the same revenue then (with the twice as expensive ps3)? "

    Revenue means nothing. Ask Nintendo.
  • Inquisitor #7 3 years ago

With the release of the new 360 the higher yield on chipsets should ensure that profits are maintained even with the price drop as the overall manufacturing costs should reduce quite a lot.
  • stevethemeat #8 3 years ago

why would people want to pay less for a superior system with better multi format games and exclusives?
  • callum9999 #9 3 years ago

Because some people don't think the xbox is superior? (Pretty much everyone who bought a PS3 I assume as why would you buy a more expensive, inferior machine?)
  • oreillymj #10 3 years ago

So that'll be twice as many to repair in 6 months time.
  • dsmx #11 3 years ago

Yes those xbox 360 "exclusives" are very good on the PC.
  • bioreit #12 3 years ago

    @ evilfoxhound

What's the mfr date/lot number of your new one? Apparently the Jasper ones are out, but need to be post- August 8th/8031 (I think?) in order to be quiter and use less power.

I was in the middle of ordering both 360 no.3 and PS3 no. 1 but have cancelled both, because I want to get a Jasper Arcade and I really think Sony will drop the price of the PS3, or at least funnel some better packages through to retail.

Businesses unqualified to quote sales figures for Microsft consoles Vs Sony Consoles:

    Microsoft
    Sony

Soon Sony marketing will come out with the genius "no yer no! We are!" statement, and assuming neither company would lie, means they have both sold twice the number their competitior has. It has to be an infinite number of consoles sold each, so they're doing well.

  • BlueDot #17 3 years ago

FFS, Why can't people just enjoy the games they have ? Who gives a rat's arse whether your console of choice sold more or less than the other fella's ? Why would you care that someone else bought a console that is a bit less reliable, or a bit more noisy, or more expensive, or have less games ? What different did that make to your life ?

Sorry, got to get that off my chest. I should just chill and use the ignore poster button.

  • Garulon #18 3 years ago

Are they? On my PC they suck quite badly compared to the 360.
  • ademkermad #19 3 years ago

MS have sold about 2.5 mil in the UK i think. But with the amount of 360 ads I have seen, they should be outselling pstriple 2 to 1
  • Law07 #20 3 years ago

Slow news day, lets put some fanboy war bait out.
  • booner #21 3 years ago

So they are selling 2 Xbox's at half the price of each PS3 sold. So in real terms, both are making the same amount of money :)
  • bioreit #22 3 years ago

    @ Garulon

You fool! He said 'the PC', not 'a PC', or 'your PC' or even 'his PC'. He clearly was referring to this:

    The PC

Which would obviously play games better than the 360, 720, PS16 and all other games consoles combined.

    Foolish boy.
  • onyxbox #23 3 years ago

I know someone who bought a 'spare' because of the price. I even considered it (for a second).

They're as cheap as chips now. "Our servay says: 1 in 5 360 owners have purchased more than one so far." .. and counting ;-)

Seriously tho' time to stop buying crappy machines and force MS to make a reliable one... this beta test has gone on too long (/sorry couldn't help it).

  • bioreit #24 3 years ago

Maybe learn the difference between 'revenue generated' and 'proft earned'. ;-)
  • bioreit #25 3 years ago

    @ onyxbox

My multiple 360s aren't 'spares' - they're Media Centre Extenders. Most of the folk I know who've actually bought more than one did so because they liked the functionality and streaming. Guys with RROD and DRE have always either exchanged them in shops or shipped them back to MS.
  • mingster #26 3 years ago

yeah booner considering Sony lose money in each Ps3 sold wheras Ms make money on each consol even the cheap aracde version i think your maths don't add up.
  • stevencole7 #27 3 years ago

I'm not sure Ms make money on each console post price-cut. Do you have figures to back that up?

Have to admit, even though I detest Microsoft as a company (long story) I'd have went for a 360 if GTA wasn't being released on PC. It's inevitable, IMO, that Sony will drop the PS3 price at some point in the near future to compete - possibly in time for the Christmas rush.
  • onyxbox #29 3 years ago

My multiple 360s aren't 'spares' - they're Media Centre Extenders.

my missus makes me turn the 360 off when she wants to watch the telly because she thinks it's noisy and annoying... I couldn't see myself ever using it as a media device. Even without the disk spin (although a hell of a lot quieter) it's still a bit too noisy IMO (and hers).

If MS made one that was quiet, I'd snap one up without hesiation and donate my old one to my dad or something.

From what I've seen of the people who buy PS3s in my store, I don't think that satement's entirely true. Those chavvy boyracers really do love the ole Gran Turismo see :)
Like I've said before, this new price MIGHT be good for MS with regards to the parents who were after a Wii but couldn't get one, ANYWHERE, throughout the whole of Nov/Dec.
Changing those unbelievably shitty new ads would also help Microsoft out this Christmas.
And LBP, if marketed fantastically, will surely help out Sony this year too, although a £50+ price drop really wouldn't go amiss either.

  • BobsUncle #46 3 years ago

"In the end, sales don't mean shit."

I think they do. The more consoles you have out in circulation means more people buying software for your system. Which means more cash fom you. I believe MS and Sony make more money from the games sales more than the console sales.

"Ford mondeos outsell Ferraris but that does not mean that Mondeos are better."

Depends on what you want to do with it, cant fit a dog, two kids and the shopping in an Enzo. And I bet Ford make more money each year from car sales than Ferrari do anyway.
  • Gaol #47 3 years ago

    Credit crunch is on.

*Most* people buy these things to play games on.

They are pretty much identical in terms of performance in that regard.

    £129 plays £299...

People are tightening their belts just now, so which box to put for 'little jonny' under the Christmas tree is a complete no brainer.

got to laugh at ps3 owners defending their overpriced/underplayed superconsole, im sure there will be plenty of new films out on blu ray this christmas.

comparing a 360 to a mondeo and a ps3 to a ferrari, i thought a ferrari could outperform a mondeo, since when can the ps3 outperform the 360.

I know, the apparent inability of anyone at EG (I know they're just 'reporting' it but they could at least ridicule it assuming they do actually realise that it's fucked up) to understand the difference between percentage increase 'by' and 'of' is just such a wind up. It's usually Sony who quote the ridiculous %-based figures but here's MS weighing in too ...

I think with all the doom and gloom over the economy that it's going to turn what may usually have been a complex decision between 360 or PS3 to be a no-brainer £130 or £300 decision, regardless of any other factors that would normally be taken into account ... The good side to that, for Sony boys, is that it's likely to lead to a substantial PS3 price cut in November.
  • Teamallstar #58 3 years ago

I say well done to Microsoft for finally making it cheap enough for most people to buy.

They will likely sell more 360's than sony sells PS3s, but not twice as many.
  • IneptPercy #59 3 years ago

It really is simple, if its cheap people will buy it.

For little Jimmy this xmas they are both going to be the same on his 14" portable TV so is it £129.99 or £299.99.

With that, due to the 360 being out longer and having more units out there therefore there is more games floating about which makes a healthier used game market, Look at some of the games you can get for less than £10 now for the 360.
  • Xerx3s #60 3 years ago

I too cant understand why some are fanatical one console owner, if we see ourselves as the true gamers, then we will enjoy the game no matter what the the platform its runs on. Simple as that really.

But I add that some of the biles against PS3 are perhaps more to do with Sony as the company, rather than the console itself, such as their well known attempts at 'the overselling', which all competitors do but Sony do went well further along and customers would have believed it!! As some of my drinking mates did, 'Nah PS3 is 3x more powerful cos FHM said so!'.

Other thing wrong with PS3 is perhaps to consumers's view is the price point, this is where money talks really in credit crunch climate.

  • TrooGamer #63 3 years ago

I just have a feeling come 31st October the PS3 will get a price cut. If you think about it why have the 160gb version at £349.99?

I think Sony will do the 80gb at £249.99 £279.99 with a first party game ala LBP and £299 for the 160gb. I could be wrong but as long as the PS3 isnt seen as overly expensive to 360 it will sell as well as games obviously.

LBP will deffo help imo as no matter what people may say Gears 2 will not sell as many consoles as before for MS. I want Fable 2 tho

Surely the most important thing for any console owner is to hope that their choice of platform isn't made redundant in the foreseeable future by the competition. Since none of the three this time round look likely to die out anytime soon, who the fuck cares what is selling more than the other as none of the multi-format software companies are pulling out of development for a particular machine, and given the relatively even spread of sales currently, are unlikely to do so in the near future.

It's not so much the PS3 I don't like, but Sony. Having a company tell me their product can do things it actually can't doesn't really sit well with me. The PS3 is still a great machine, but not what Sony said it would be. How do you buy from a company like that?

And then of course their arrogance in thinking they could sell more consoles at twice the price than anyone else didn't help either.

Say what you will about MS, but I don't recall them attempting to stall the competition by telling me their console could do 4D graphics at 120 fps. Regardless, I'd still probably get a PS3 if it weren't so damn expensive...and once it has some exclusives I'd enjoy.
  • CHAZBIGPOTATO #72 3 years ago

Thinking about what Evilfoxhound said about the current fad for PS3 hating, it is true but these things come in waves and in a few weeks the pendulum will probably swing back the other way and the storys will all be in PS3 favour, then the twats rubbing PS3 owners face in it will get it back their way by a load of Xbox hating twats. And so on and on and on, great stuff...

    @evilfoxhound

I feel the same way. I own both, they both have their strengths but I'm amazed at the amount of people in these threads that feel the need to bash the PS3 and claim PS3 owners are 'out in force' etc.

Either I'm not seeing something properly or something but I'm almost certain there is almost always more noise coming from the 360 crowd on what's wrong with Sony / PS3.

I agree with you, there's nothing in it between the two apart from the odd exclusive here and there. I think your comment on 'it's a fad' to hate on Sony is closer to the truth these days.

I have my 'preferred' system but I'm not going to slag the other system because I know from experience that it's apples and oranges.

    And comments like...

Say what you will about MS, but I don't recall them attempting to stall the competition by telling me their console could do 4D graphics at 120 fps.

...are just plain ridiculous... are people forgetting that Microsoft LIED about the design defects in the machine. It's fact that they knew the machine was defective before it even hit production!

Now that's a f'ing way more deceitful and damaging than promising some features that had to dropped because of cost/manufacturing implications. It's no different to all that bull MS promised about editing forza cars on your mobile phone and all that stuff... and all these PC and 360 games living in harmony and all those Vision Camera games....? Where are they?

    None of that turned up.

I'm not a Sony fanboy by any means, but Sony aren't the ones doing the dirty on the gaming public... especially if the only thing they can be criticised of is being too ambitious and believing in creating new and exiting technology.

"there is almost always more noise coming from the 360 crowd on what's wrong with Sony"

I'd argue that many of the 'Sony bashers' are actually disgruntled Sony fans who are genuinely disappointed with the lies, delays and poorer than promised performance of the system. Not every body is a fanboy. Some people just don't like being lied to and told to get a second job to afford "teh amazing 4d graphics on dual 1080p screens at 120fps, not to mention the super ultimate untapped powerz (which will never be tapped because they do not EXIST) and the fact that the PS3 is 3 times more powerful than the 360 when it's clearly not and struggles to match it in most cases"....

  • local_celebrity #79 3 years ago

I dunno why everyone's getting so worked up. After the credit crunch has finally taken its toll, we'll all be marauding about in a wasteland, scavenging and killing each other for scraps of shiny metal and bits of bubblewrap.

The Xbox and PS3 will promptly enter folklore as these preternaturally advanced creatures of yesteryear.

Oh yes, my great-great-grandfather owned an Xbox once. He used to wear his Sunday best before playing on it...

  • onyxbox #81 3 years ago

I'd argue that many of the 'Sony bashers' are actually disgruntled Sony fans who are genuinely disappointed with the lies,

Fair enough, but people can't use Microsoft as an example to compare against in that argument. Microsoft lied big time about the design defects in the 360. They knew it was defective before release and they continued to lie about it for over a year after release and only came clean because there was just too many class actions looming.

That type of behaviour is far far worse than promising a few features that didn't turn up. Microsoft do this too you know.

I couldn't care less who 'wins' but Sony IMO don't deserve the flack they get, just for over selling and under promising... Halo anyone? Vision Camera? That forza stuff for mobile phone? Zune?
  • Ryze #82 3 years ago

Sorry, but in terms of a GAMING PLATFORM. M$ Have DELIVERED.

All you heard from me during the consoles first 2 years was "They better make the fucking thing more reliable", as I was playing my limping 'Disc Read Error' PS2 since 2004.

The Falcon chipset sorted that since 1 YEAR AGO, and I've been the owner of the best console so far for 10 months now.

I'll be the first to bash the 360 again if my Falcon starts falling over within the next 2 years. So far it's been FANTASTIC.

Premium games, controller, online functions, community, arcade games, budget games, graphics, sound, media playback...

I'm even happy that Blu-Ray won the war, as I picked up an HD DVD player for £35, and have 15 or so films that cost from £5 each! Chuffed as hell, and I'll be happy to rip their contents to Blu-Ray discs once the price of that format + the PS3 becomes value for money.

Sony's attitiude and actions have caused its current predicament - the PS3 is UNDERPOWERED. It lacks RAM (needs 1gb total), lacks video horsepower, and the Blu-Ray drive needs to be at least 4x rather than 2x.

Games take to long to develop, and cost too much, for poor results.

the reason for my dislike of the whole sony fanboy movement is that whilst we were all playing happily on our 360's (what seems like) 10 years ago - they were all smugly saying "just wait for the PS3 - I'm not buying that M$ bollocks - the ps3 is gonna be extreme man!"

and here we are, a few years down the road, and the SDF are still banging on about the PS3's "potential" - well I'm sorry - but the current gen phase is probably past its halfway mark now, and Sony are only really just starting to arrive with WipeoutHd ( a game I am seriously considering re-buying a PS3 for - if it wasnt for the wife knowing where all the knives are kept in the house!)

    Ive owned all 3 - a 360 from launch, a ps3 which I traded in for a wii.
All 3 consoles have their downsides, its just that 2 of them are actually great gaming machines.

"Microsoft lied big time about the design defects in the 360. They knew it was defective before release"

Is there actually any real proof of this though, or is it just unconfirmed rumour from an 'anonymous' source? Regardless, we all know that the failure rate was not acceptable whether they knew or not, MS have rectified the problem so it's old hat now. Sony cannot rectify their problems however because their claims as to the power of their system can never materialize. The only way Sony could fix their problem in the same way MS did would be to recall every single PS3 and replace it with a PS3.5 which really did do 1080p on dual screens with 4D graphics at 120fps... Can't see that happening though...

"Fair enough, but people can't use Microsoft as an example to compare against in that argument. Microsoft lied big time about the design defects in the 360."

You must have an extremely short memory. Sony has lied/tried to lie about several design defects in the past as well. Difference is, I had to pay 70 euro to get that fixed while ms's problems are fixed for free. Back to square one?

Wow an electric heater for £130!!
Its only outselling as its just over 1/3rd of the price. To hell with a cheap console which's life is nearing the end.
People seem to forget that come next year or the year after, MS will most probably bring out a new console. The we shall see if it was worth it. See how fast the original xbox came out of production and games for it halted? Most probs, smae will happen with the 360.
    My two pence.

I still don't understand this facination with consoles.

    Victory to the PC!

    Better networking (by far).
    Better chat (by far).
Better mods. Sorry, correction: Mods. Period.
Same games + Exclusives. Gears 2 and Fable 2 *will* be out on PC 6 months after 360 release. Guaranteed.
    Much more utility.
    No paying for multiplayer.
Cheaper games (even for the same title).
Uses a gamepad too, if that floats your boat.

And yeah, they're more expensive, but its easier to talk the family into buying something that daddy can use for work than it is to buy a console and expensive assed games.
  • t8yman #89 3 years ago

    @vandrius

I sit at a PC all day, in a chair, at work.

my telly/console/settee combo work just fine thanks, as does playing the games 6 months before you and not waving my graphics card round like some phallic symbol.

victory to not being a KB/M geek.
  • Gradius #90 3 years ago

    @Vandrius

I think the reason PCs are not seen as mainstream gaming devices is because the average family has one or two throughout the home (for general usage) but wouldn't have a clue how to upgrade it and wouldn't replace it every year and a half just to play the latest game (not to mention the price of a decent modern games-worthy rig). So the average mum/dad just thinks 'hmm, buy a console for £130 and that'll keep the kids happy for the next few years'...Also, It's really not true that the PC gets all the same games as consoles. There have been plenty of high profile/decent titles over the years that never saw a PC release.

I personaly game on everything including my PC but not everybody has the money, time or knowledge to maintain a decent gaming PC.

Also, people moan about the 360/PS3 having too many SKUs, "Oooh, it so cunfusing, me not no wot to getz", so imagine how those people feel when faced with choosing a graphics card/soundcard etc...

    + 1 for good response

    @ Vandrius

-1 for being a fanboy. And for not taking into account that people are, you know, different and have different priorities.
  • ThePissartist #92 3 years ago

    @Vandrius

You didn't mentioned the negatives of the PC:

Consoles have much easier online gaming solutions
Consoles cost 1/6 of the price
PC get some 360 games 6 months later and take a very powerful graphics to run any of the games despite PC mags suggesting that [ADD WHATEVER CARD ID] is 2/3/4/5x more powerful than the consoles.
Game devs aren't making as many PC games because of Bittorrent
    Consoles are plug and play
You can't sit around a beige box with your family
Game simply work on consoles (no endless fucking about with visual settings)
You only need to spend money on a new one every 5-6 years

I'm a former PC gamer, but wouldn't go back. My PC is for the internet/work/Java games.

  • Ali_sdf_pwn3d #93 3 years ago

this is a rediculous story - the xbox has nuthing when it is brought - ps3 has everything in the box alredy. xbox is the looser!
  • IneptPercy #94 3 years ago

PC's have come a long way, and can be very good for gaming for around £300, cheaper games etc.

But for £130 for a 360 how can you beat that, as mentioned its plug and play and cheap.

As for online being better on PC, I have to disagree, I know xbox live costs money but it really is great, just how simply it is with cross game invites etc no modding/cheating (as a general rule) so I do actually prefer online gaming on the 360.
  • RustyBullet #95 3 years ago

First off @hedbog Dude you need to take a good long look at the dribble you are typing. Do you think language like that makes you look big and hard ? To me you come off as a spotty liitle kid sat in mum & dads house in youre Y fronts in front of youre PC in a dark curtain drawn room streaming hollyoaks of the interweb.
I have all current gen machines and still some old consoles. PC used for work and E-Mail and as a media HUB, PS3 used mainly for Films as it only has a hand full of good games, Wii used for fun with mates and mainly for the kids. 360 used as a gameing machine because that is what it is.

    So what?

I hear this all the time and can't understand what the problem is. A 4-5 year lifespan for a console is more than enough for me, I'm looking forward to the 720!

    @t8yman

KB/M does mean that you are a geek... I could say simply that you that never play on a PC are a noob. And you are since you think that gaming with KB/M is geeky.

Anyhow. I was always a PC person, Work , gaming, hardware / overclocking occupation, 3d animation etc. The thing is since the first xbox i always prefer my games that are for both platforms to play them on the console. No installations + sitting back with my controller. If the game is an FPS or Strategy etc I rather play it the "geeky" way to enjoy the crap out of it and let ppl like t8man never know how it really is to be a ace in aiming for example. So yeah its convinient to play on a console after years of just installations and some probs :) Thats all ( You know racing sports etc games dont either need controller configurations. well Now neither since most suport the 360 controller on windows but anyways ! )

Theres Sony fanboys with 360s pretending to be "fair" or "objective".
Theres MS fanboys with PS3s pretending to be "fair" or "objective" too.

Evilfoxhound is a Sony fanboy(Smelly and Les are MS haters), not for one minute should anyone buy his half assed attempt to justify his trollish and defensive behaviour same goes with Ony... Theres no way a normal gamer with no bias or predjudice or even a non gamer wouldn't pick up on that reading their post histories... you aren't fooling anyone.

So why do they do it?...

Perhaps they talked up too much about how their favourite was gonna "Pwn" and now its not looking likely they are desperately trying to save face?

Maybe they fear for the future of the Playstation brand?(going a bit far IMO)

Maybe its buyers remorse? They may have(thanks in no small part to Sony) built up an unlikely impression of what PS3 was going to be, spent a fair chunk of their money on it and now have a hard time accepting it really hasnt turned out that way. Hence joining countless 360 threads, comparison articles... quoting untapped potential PR, hyperbole for the PS3s future and hurling abuse left right and centre at those they feel threaten their precious machines future(See "hedbog" and "Apologie";).

Maybe they just hate MS or America in general because its "cool" sort of looking to score browney points among their peers? Ignorant of the real world and just how the other companies invloved really compare(delude themselves... See "Les" and "Smelly";).

... Or maybe some people are just jerks! ;)

Really theres no mistaking simple critisism which can be seen from alot of pro 360 members here(like the defect rates) with bashing, spinning or manipulating. Like the "MS lanched knowing exactly what was wrong and lied to everyone" comments... Bullshit! They would have loved to have known about it before they launched... the damage cause by delaying it a while compared to the massive costs of finding out what was happening (= they didnt know what was going on btw), how to fix those already out there and keeping people happy aswell as the damage caused to the image of the console itself... need I go on? It far far far outweighs any motives for beating Sony to the punch... MS are good business operators = why bother trying to create some scandal? Ulterior motives of the anxious Sony Fanboy/MS hater kind? You betcha! ;)

    @davisorle

I used to play KBM on quake 3 "back in the day" as well as the original far cry and countless others - even a bit of counter strike (but I got pwned regularly) so I am aware of the advantages of KBM especially for aiming.

I havent gamed on the PC since the 360 came out, and when I got my new lappy - I bought cod4 - because I love it on the 360. Hated every second of the whole KBM malarkey. I really dont see why anyone can say its simply "better" with KBM - its only better if they are up against each other on the same game, if you are gaming on a console (with a few exceptions) everyone is using a pad, so everyone is playing on a level playing field.

The "fun-ness" of a game isnt necessarily dictated by its control format.

KBM might not mean "geek", but the way PC gamers bang on about it - it definitely equals "elitist" and "snob"

If you really believe MS didn't know about the defective design before launch then I think you're deluded.

  • Kryon #101 3 years ago

onyxbox, what makes you so sure Microsoft did know? Is there any proof of this?
I'm not saying MS did or didn't know but to believe a rumour you read on the internet from an unidentified sauce just because it fits with your bias is pretty silly now isn't it. There is no proof, just a rumour. Do you believe everything you read?

Actually, sorry, silly question. You believed the PS3 hype too, didn't you, lol.

  • Calgon #103 3 years ago

It true; theres no way we will ever know but my point is logically its unlikely MS knew just how high those defect rates were...

They would have loved to have caught that before launch because they would have mauled Sony by now if theyd have delayed launch and fixed those problems.

They wouldnt have launched knowing all that without seeing it was their worst option, I mean what did they stand to gain from it? where is the logic? There isnt much... "MS are rich they can afford to do it in the short term to win in the long term" noooooo because this has had long term implications and theyd have known it would... We are talking Billions which they didnt have to lose here, they could have had more market share than they do now, and more importantly theyd have been making profit from within the first year IMO(they may be making it now but thats overshadowed by the hefty repair bill).

Everyone knows word of mouth when it comes to faulty hardware/cars/goods can have a drastic impact on sales and the brand(which is why I say if they knew anything, they didnt fully understand just how bad it was, they only stood to lose from such a decision... nobody with any business sense would), they delt with that with Xbox1(disk scratching reports) its THE reason Sony are still in the race right now... Sony fanboys talk it up like they are angry about it but really Im betting it's been their biggest releif, they must have given sighs of "Thank f*** for that... phew!"... What would they have to boast/gloat/whine about if not for reliability and quietness? Blu-Ray? Can you imagine Apolol and Hedbog's level of bitterness then? EG would impolde under the weight of that many troll posts.
