Xbox 360 outselling PS3 two-to-one - MS News

Microsoft has said Xbox 360 sales have increased by 214 per cent following the simultaneous price cut of all three models in Europe.
The result has been Xbox 360 outselling rival system PS3 by more than two-to-one during the last two weeks, according to the Chart-Track figures.
"Our commitment to continuously improving and innovating new content, our new high-profile marketing campaign and the fact that we're now the best-value next-gen console on the market with an entry-level ERP of GBP 129.99 combine to make Xbox 360 the right blend of gaming and wider experiences at the right price to offer unparalleled entertainment for everyone. And these figures prove it," said Chris Lewis, Xbox 360 Euro boss.
On 19th September, Microsoft reduced the price of the Xbox 360 Arcade unit to GBP 129.99, the Xbox 360 Premium to GBP 169.99, and the Xbox 360 Elite to GBP 229.99.
Microsoft plans to drive more Xbox 360 sales this Christmas by releasing karaoke game Lips, Live Vision camera title You're in the Movies, and the redesigned family-friendly Xbox Live interface.

So...... PS3 was outselling the 360 before that then. /Pesky maths - the bane of PR goons the world over. Edit: Would also like to add that it remains to be seen if the momentum can be maintained or whether this is just a blip. Have to say, though, the timing could be right, as parents are starting to think about making Christmas purchases and a sustained selling period from now until Christmas could see the gap widen.

With the release of the new 360 the higher yield on chipsets should ensure that profits are maintained even with the price drop as the overall manufacturing costs should reduce quite a lot.

Because some people don't think the xbox is superior? (Pretty much everyone who bought a PS3 I assume as why would you buy a more expensive, inferior machine?)

What's the mfr date/lot number of your new one? Apparently the Jasper ones are out, but need to be post- August 8th/8031 (I think?) in order to be quiter and use less power. I was in the middle of ordering both 360 no.3 and PS3 no. 1 but have cancelled both, because I want to get a Jasper Arcade and I really think Sony will drop the price of the PS3, or at least funnel some better packages through to retail. |

Microsoft Sony Soon Sony marketing will come out with the genius "no yer no! We are!" statement, and assuming neither company would lie, means they have both sold twice the number their competitior has. It has to be an infinite number of consoles sold each, so they're doing well. |

FFS, Why can't people just enjoy the games they have ? Who gives a rat's arse whether your console of choice sold more or less than the other fella's ? Why would you care that someone else bought a console that is a bit less reliable, or a bit more noisy, or more expensive, or have less games ? What different did that make to your life ?

MS have sold about 2.5 mil in the UK i think. But with the amount of 360 ads I have seen, they should be outselling pstriple 2 to 1

I know someone who bought a 'spare' because of the price. I even considered it (for a second).
They're as cheap as chips now. "Our servay says: 1 in 5 360 owners have purchased more than one so far." .. and counting ;-) Seriously tho' time to stop buying crappy machines and force MS to make a reliable one... this beta test has gone on too long (/sorry couldn't help it). |

Children/chavs will buy cheap toys, when they are reduced. Love the PS3 having no chavs(etc) on it ;)

yeah booner considering Sony lose money in each Ps3 sold wheras Ms make money on each consol even the cheap aracde version i think your maths don't add up.
I'm not sure Ms make money on each console post price-cut. Do you have figures to back that up? Have to admit, even though I detest Microsoft as a company (long story) I'd have went for a 360 if GTA wasn't being released on PC. It's inevitable, IMO, that Sony will drop the PS3 price at some point in the near future to compete - possibly in time for the Christmas rush. |

My multiple 360s aren't 'spares' - they're Media Centre Extenders.
my missus makes me turn the 360 off when she wants to watch the telly because she thinks it's noisy and annoying... I couldn't see myself ever using it as a media device. Even without the disk spin (although a hell of a lot quieter) it's still a bit too noisy IMO (and hers). If MS made one that was quiet, I'd snap one up without hesiation and donate my old one to my dad or something. |

From what I've seen of the people who buy PS3s in my store, I don't think that satement's entirely true. Those chavvy boyracers really do love the ole Gran Turismo see :) Like I've said before, this new price MIGHT be good for MS with regards to the parents who were after a Wii but couldn't get one, ANYWHERE, throughout the whole of Nov/Dec. Changing those unbelievably shitty new ads would also help Microsoft out this Christmas. And LBP, if marketed fantastically, will surely help out Sony this year too, although a £50+ price drop really wouldn't go amiss either.

Its good that microsoft are finally selling the 360 for the price its trully worth, well sub £100 would have been more accurate.
All their new adverts on tv marketing it as a family console for the kids lol! wonder if families will find it casual fun when it red rings on christmas day during a 4 player game of scene it, followed by some nuts and buts, then finished off with some fun aviator fun microsoft, not enough lol in the world |

I think they do. The more consoles you have out in circulation means more people buying software for your system. Which means more cash fom you. I believe MS and Sony make more money from the games sales more than the console sales. "Ford mondeos outsell Ferraris but that does not mean that Mondeos are better." Depends on what you want to do with it, cant fit a dog, two kids and the shopping in an Enzo. And I bet Ford make more money each year from car sales than Ferrari do anyway. |

got to laugh at ps3 owners defending their overpriced/underplayed superconsole, im sure there will be plenty of new films out on blu ray this christmas.
comparing a 360 to a mondeo and a ps3 to a ferrari, i thought a ferrari could outperform a mondeo, since when can the ps3 outperform the 360. |
