Xbox 360 GOD delivers Crackdown

RTW's openworld riot for 15 quid.

The outstanding Crackdown has been added Xbox Live's Games on Demand for £14.99.

It's cheaper (and in stock) at Amazon, Play and HMV, but only by a few pounds.

You can queue Crackdown for download from the Xbox website. The file is 6GB.

Crackdown was released fairly quietly at the start of February 2007, but soon gained momentum (and copycats) for its approachable openworld style, online co-op, rooftop jumping and unashamedly powerful hero. Head over to our Crackdown review for a full analysis.

Crackdown 2 is in development at Ruffian Games while Realtime Worlds focuses on potentially ground-breaking MMO APB instead. Catch up with our recent hands-on impressions of Crackdown 2 to see how the game's shaping up.

    Do I have to spell it out to you agent? DO NOT KILL INNOCENT CIVILIANS.

    One of the greatest games on 360, its about time it arrived on GoD.
  • awb83 #2 2 years ago

    Why bother for £15? It's on ebay for about £6.
  • Retroid #3 2 years ago

  • MiniAmin #4 2 years ago

    15 pounds and 6GB off my HDD? If you paid 120 for 120 HDD as some did, then the cost of keeping this game on your HDD alone is about 6 quid itself.

    Lame.
  • GamerG #5 2 years ago

    @awb83

    because you can earn some quick "skills for kills" without having to change the discs over, a great game to have on demand like Burnout paradise

    I know one who would benefit from this, but he's got an arcade :(
  • lambtron #7 2 years ago

    Here's hoping they will slowly drive down the prices on GOD. Anyway, 15 quid for crackdown is reasonable.
  • Kazzahdrane #8 2 years ago

    Worth noting that this is the only 360 game (AFAIK) that you can't install to the HDD. So if you're desperate for quicker load times in Crackdown this might be an option...
  • Darren #9 2 years ago

    So have Microsoft seen sense at last and reduced ALL Game on Demand titles or is it just Crackdown?

    I thought Crackdown on disc couldn't be installed to the HDD for technical reasons so how does this download version work seeing as it'll be running from the HDD?
  • Eraserhead #10 2 years ago

    It *can* now be installed to disc - there was a patch recently and it installs just fine. I know because I've just bought it brand new from Argos Clearance on ebay for £6.50. £15? Pfff...
  • GamerG #11 2 years ago

    @Kazzahdrane

    you have been able to install Crackdown since the last update actually
  • kangarootoo #12 2 years ago

    Fantastic game. Buy it. Either from GOD or from Argos. What matters most is that you play it :)
  • Monkey_Puncher #13 2 years ago

    You can actually download this to hard drive now, they brought out a patch that fixes that.
  • lavalant #14 2 years ago

    @Kazz that's been fixed, and the game can now be installed to hdd, just put it in ur tray and you'll get an update.
  • kangarootoo #15 2 years ago

    And personally, I would pay a few quid more just to do away with a disc.

    I'm not going to trade in a game I bought for a few quid anyway, and I personally find discs to be an unneccessary inconvenience.
  • DFawkes #16 2 years ago

    Kazzahdrane makes a very good point, though Crackdown works great from disc it'd be nice to have a way to install it, should you chose to. EDIT: Unless I read the other comment in between which state that's changed. Sorry for missing that one!

    For some reason Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 also doesn't install, should anyone not only own that (I do) and play it so much they feel it needs installed.

    This was the first HD game I played and remains one of the most compelling experiences you can have on the Box. Brief, but so much fun. I've got fond memories of it, and it's great co-op. Nice to see it a reasonable price too.

    £15 is a price point where you don't feel like you're being ripped off and I can see a lot more people taking GOD up at this price point, I'd certainly buy a game for £15 on a rainy day to save the ballache of going out. If you've never played this I'd say it's definitely worth a punt.
  • AaronTurner #19 2 years ago

    £15 sounds a fair price to me, it's certainly a lot better than £20. I like GOD for their convenience and will probably buy this at some point in the futur
  • Monkey_Puncher #20 2 years ago

    If all GOD were £15 I might even use the service occasionally, I'd love to pick up Dead Space and Far Cry 2 but they're far too expensive at £20 a pop.
  • Ringot #21 2 years ago

    Meh. Tried the demo. Seemed overrated.

    as per usual.
    screw GOD ( :o ) and its fleecing of stupid / impatient gamers.
  • Mkwone #25 2 years ago

    The only reason people took note of this game is because it came with a Halo 3 beta. It just so happened the game was fun. but it's massivly overated imo.
  • ZuluHero #26 2 years ago

    @kangarootoo

    Except for those of us in the dark ages with download caps, small HDD and most importantly WANTING TO SAVE MONEY...

    I thought the whole point of DD was to eliminate overheads and make stuff cheaper as its being sold directly to the consumer? That’s one reason why online retail is cheaper than the high street after all...
  • millerlfc #27 2 years ago

    Crackdown is £15 to download, or 1600 points if you choose to pay by points instead. 2100 points costs £14.73 at thehut.com so that works out as £11.22 for 1600 points.

    £11.22 to download Crackdown seems great value to me (I'm incredibly lazy and it's already a massive chore constantly switching left 4 dead and fifa out of the disc drive). The other GOD games are 2400 points which was too much for me, but I'll be downloading this.

    Does anyone else not see the irony here? So I have to buy points from on online retailer and wait for them to be delivered just so I can buy a GOD?

    And you say you're incredibly lazy, yet you’re quite happy to go through that rigmarole just to get it.

    It's amazing what lengths some people will go to. How about calculating in the cost of wear and tear on your shoes when you walk to the shops to buy it, or the food you need to buy and the time you need to eat it int, in order to get the energy to go out and buy the game from a retailer?

    Does anyone else not see the irony here?

    No idea, but I'm pretty sure you're the only one who doesn't realise that you can buy points and have them delivered instantly through email or just do away with points altogether and pay with a credit card.

  • interceptor #31 2 years ago

    Omg are Microsoft actually listening?

    £14.99 is a much better price point for Games on Demand. I've lost count of the amount of times I've bought games off ebay which have ended up being scratched.

    And for those people moaning about HDD space - don't forget that you can delete and re-download games as often as you want. You don't need to keep the game on there if you need space for other things.

    Oh, and if you're moaning about your small broadband cap, then WTF. It's your fault for being such a tight wad, not Microsofts. Get a BB supplier with a higher limit

    Every generation has some memorable games and Crackdown is one of them
  • Der_tolle_Emil #33 2 years ago

    @Shinetop: With the 360 HDD prices I think this is a very reasonable argument. Harddrive space is limited and very expensive, why would I bother "wasting" it when I can just order the disc from Amazon which will be even cheaper? Unless I feel the need to play this game right now in the next 20 minutes ordering online makes much more sense.

    Yes it is sort of ironic - but I can live with it.

    And yes I am lazy! I actually bought loads of 2100 packs from thehut a while ago so it was just a single delivery, so now if I need to purchase something I just need to turn my Xbox on - at the moment I mainly just get Live Arcade titles as I was waiting for the GOD games to drop in price, hopefully Crackdown is just the start (still haven't played Mass Effect or Bioshock).

    I also used a 10% voucher when I bought all the 2100 points and I also got cashback with my Egg credit card and more cashback with quidco (not just lazy, but a scrooge as well!).

    huh? GoD games can be bought with a credit card..., I say ppl are loosing the focus when they try *too* hard to bash something. This time it's not that *outrageous*, or if it is, GoD games are not your problem, you need to find a real job 15 pound/euro is not that much.
    Not to mention I buy all my points online and the *code* is delivered to me almost imediately.

    Just noticed that the DLC has been reduced in price too....was 800points, now 400points....might just buy it all....ace game.

    And for those people moaning about HDD space - don't forget that you can delete and re-download games as often as you want. You don't need to keep the game on there if you need space for other things.

    That is true but totally ruins the idea behind games on "demand". Getting the disc and putting it in the drive takes a minute or so, searching for items to delete so that you have enough space to download the game again plus the time it actually takes to download the game will be much, much more.

    I'm not saying Games on Demand is bad, far from it. I think it's great but the costs of a 360 hard drive are ridiculous and if you don't already have a 120gb disc I'm not sure if buying a bigger HDD just for Games on Demand is justified when the discs are still cheaper.
  • Xerx3s #38 2 years ago

    "It's cheaper (and in stock) at Amazon, Play and HMV, but only by a few pounds. "

    Hmmm, so actually own the game, have something solid and spend less money or spend more money, don't actually own what you buy and get nothing physical. Tough choice...

    You make it sound like you have to re-download it every time you want to play it. I'm just saying - when you've played it to death and are done with it you can delete it and come back to it in, say, a year's time and download it again.
  • kangarootoo #40 2 years ago

    @Ringot

    I tried the demo way back, and didn't like it either. Crackdown is a game that lots of people don't get into the first time, especially when trying the demo.

    Give it another shot. Work on getting your athletics skill levelled up so you can hop about easily. You may still like it at the end of the day, but you might be missing out if you don't give it another go.
  • kangarootoo #41 2 years ago

    @sugapunk

    You are suggesting the £6 on storage is not recoverable, when of course it is. See if like a piggy bank :)
  • mingster #42 2 years ago

    I cannot stand having to run games from disc on the 360. Which is why i only buy live arcade games for it.
    I don't like having to swap discs. 1600 pts is just about right. About £12.
  • ZuluHero #43 2 years ago

    @miiiguel

    I just meant it was ironic in that specific instance, esp. as the argument was for making it cheaper. AFAIK The HUT doesn't send you a code via email, you have to wait for it to arrive via snailmail. You might have other means of acquiring LIVE codes cheaply, but that doesn’t mean that everyone does.

    @millerlfc

    Sorry, I wasn't having a go, i just found it kind of funny that’s all. That’s a good plan, next time i see a load going cheaply i will grab a couple as atm i have my CC linked to my LIVE account and it’s a dangerous thing indeed. It’s one of the reasons i’m quite defensive about the pricing of LIVE stuff as I always end up playing Microsoft’s RRP (does "RRP" still apply to DD pricing? :S).

  • TeaFiend #44 2 years ago

    We all know it is cheaper to buy a physical copy than a GOD game. This is how it works and will not change any time soon. Every new article of the recent GOD is the same.
  • onyxbox #45 2 years ago

  • MiniAmin #46 2 years ago

    @ Sugapunk.

    That was a good rejoinder. But I thought it'd be appropriate to bring up HDD because Crackdown is cheaper on a disc. My point wasn't really the cost of 6GB on the HDD. I'll clarify what my is: you could have Crackdown at half the price it's sold for on GOD and allocate an additional 6GB for films/music/XBLA on your HDD.

  • bad09 #47 2 years ago

    I agree with TeaFiend, we all know GOD is a rip so best to just forget about the "service". Still £15 is reasonable in this instance, sure it can be bought cheaper but it's a little better than the normal £20 piss take for these old games.
  • Mr_Brown #48 2 years ago

    Guess its a step in the right direction...but they really should have older games at £9.99. There is no way they can charge more than that for launch games or games that came out in the first year of the console cycle.
  • Peew971 #49 2 years ago

    You could pay full RRP today and still not feel ripped off... That's how good this game is ;)
  • chiz #50 2 years ago

    I'm getting this, even though I have the full DVD game, simply for the fact it requires no DVD in the drive.
  • InvisibleCrane #51 2 years ago

    For crying out loud can't EG do a GOD article without pandering to the crybabies who comment here who are under the impression that the entire gaming industry hates them?...it's bad enough when gamers act like spoiled brats over this but when a professional gaming site joins in with them...I just don't understand!!!
  • z8Jay #52 2 years ago

    One of the best games i've ever played. Highly recommended.
  • IMD1_Pk #53 2 years ago

    If they haven't fixed the install issues with the game and gone ahead and sold a marketplace version instead I'm gonna go burn one of their offices. Stopping support on backwards compatibility is one thing but stopping supporting games on a current system is another.
  • siro #54 2 years ago

    1600 points is the point where I might budge for the odd GOD game.

    Also, I am interested in Crackdown, but unfortunately, this offer won't make it to Germany. :)
