XBLA revenues up by over 60 per cent News

Microsoft is reporting a healthy increase in sales of Xbox Live Arcade games.

During the five-week Summer of Arcade promotion, there was a 58 per cent increase in the number of unique users buying XBLA games. August broke the record for monthly revenues by 67 per cent.

How come? "The games were really good," reckons the Gamerscore blog.

The games released last month included Castle Crashers, currently the most-played XBLA title. Braid, released on 6th August, has become the highest-rated XBLA title ever, while Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 and Bionic Commando: Rearmed are also in the top 10.

Highlights for "the coming months" include Portal: Still Alive, South Park and R-Type Dimensions, according to Microsoft.

i was put off braid by all the prentious gamers painting it as some life altering experience when it's just a good 2D platformer ;)

i didn't really dig the metaphors in the end, but that last endrun when it does a 180 on you was kinda classic.

Great to see it did well though, more original stuff please, I can live without remakes of paperboy or rootbeer tapper.

XBLA may have a lot of shit games but it also has tons of awesome games. Can't wait to see the next castle crashers.

really good new. but i'm also getting less and less free space on my 20 BG (13GB) HD....

1200 points though being criticised as being too expensive proven to be sustainable and would attracts other publishers to consider games that are mid price but can invest more resources to make it a 'standout' title such as Braid, Castle Crashers, Geometry War 2.

Looking forward to R Type and Portal.

XBLA do contain a lot of averages titles, but qutie a few of gems. Anyone who said XBLA is shite is simply talking the same!!
