Wright has new projects "in the wings" News

PC DS News by Johnny Minkley

11 August, 2008

Having spent the last eight years creating Spore, Will Wright is now eyeing a range of new projects to sink his teeth into, some of which could be "very short term".

The Sims creator's evolution epic releases on 5th September after a gruelling development effort, and while his studio, Maxis, will continue to build upon and expand the Spore brand, Wright has revealed that he has a number of new ideas already underway.

"There are a lot of other projects waiting in the wings that I've been doing early research on that, when Spore ships, I'm going to sit back, take a deep breath, and look at these projects and consider which ones to dive into," he told Eurogamer, in an exclusive and wide-ranging interview published today.

After the huge success of Spore Creature Creator - a standalone toolset that allows users to create their own alien penis monsters for inclusion in the full release - Wright admitted that he was tempted by smaller-scale offerings in the future.

"There's a lot to be said for backroom garage development, ground-up social stuff as well," he said. "I kind of like the idea of having a range of projects, some of them very short term, maybe one very long term - it's nice to have things a little out of cycle."
