WOW Lich King beta sign-ups open News

MMO PC News by Oli Welsh

4 July, 2008

Blizzard has begun registration for the open beta test of Wrath of the Lich King, the second World of Warcraft expansion.

It's done so without fanfare, though. The sign-up option - called Wrath of the Lich King Beta Opt-In - is tucked away in a dark corner of the game's official website.

WOW subscribers after a chance to join the Lich King beta will need to sign in to their accounts, go to the 'account management' page and scroll to the very bottom to find the link.

Doing so will add your account to the "pool of accounts from which participants in the Wrath of the Lich King beta test will be chosen", so access is far from guaranteed. It has to be worth a shot for an early trial of the amazing Death Knight class.

There's still no release date for Wrath of the Lich King. We were confident that it would make it out before the end of the year but we're getting nervous, frankly. Expect more information from Blizzard's next fan convention, BlizzCon 2008, being held in Los Angeles this October.

In like Flynn. It's totally random however, which is probably fair.

Where? All I see if I scroll down to the bottom of Account Management is the feature to add that security keyring thing.

Normally you will get a pregenerated char.

I don't think that will be the case this time around. In the FAQ it mentions that you will need a char at least 68 to enjoy northrend and that you will need a level 70 to be able to create a deathknight.

The worst thing about World of Warcraft? Whenever news items are posted about "WOW" they jump right out of the page at me, like "wow!".

Northrend is 68+ yes.

But you only need one character at level 55+ to unlock the Death Knight class.

Honestly, what is the point?

All them spoilers either leving up a character or getting items you cannot keep after the beta.

Crazy!

Apparently, you must have Burning Crusade. I couldn't see it, so added TBC to my account and the link appeared.
