WOW Battle.net deadline set News

MMO PC News by Oli Welsh

14 October, 2009

Blizzard has set a deadline by which all World of Warcraft players will need to merge their WOW accounts with a new Battle.net account: November 11th in North America, and November 12th in Europe.

Battle.net provides a unified login for Blizzard games, including up to eight separate World of Warcraft accounts and future releases StarCraft II and Diablo III, as well as beta tests and the Blizzard Store.

In future, it will also unify chat, achievements and friends lists across those games, as well as allowing cross-server chat within WOW. However, Battle.net's most exciting features are reserved for, and will launch alongside, StarCraft II next year.

As incentive and thanks for merging their accounts, WOW players will receive an in-game penguin pet, including those that have already switched over. The penguins will be delivered later this week.

You can create and merge accounts or read the FAQ over at the Blizzard Europe site.

Thanks for the heads up EG, I hadn't even realised. I do have the odd month of WoW now and again, and I'd have been quite annoyed if my Hunter suddenly wasn't there!

duckncover - you won't be able to log in. I'm sure you'll be able to retrieve and merge accounts after that deadline, but you won't be able to play unless you've merged.

Nothing "Bad" will happen if you don't merge before 12/11 - no characters are deleted or anything. All that will happen if you try to log in with an unmerged account after this date is that you will get an error message and be prompted to merge your account - a process which takes 5 minutes. :)

With all the 'free item/mount' scams and account ninjas via the Bnet merger itself it's surpising many havn't already merged to protect it.

At least Battlenet as a end product will be sweet linking your Blizzard games together means that plyers wont be too far away from their friends for that Starcraft, Diablo or WoW fix - money is on activision trying to link Guitar Hero to it as well - they should TBH Battlenet had always been the stronger mutliplayer hub on the pc

Yeah I can see allot of Warcraft people going over to play Diablo 3 (prob both games at the same time) so having a shared friends list would be ideal.

Ok i am gonna hate myself for saying this but...

Use internet explorer when creating your account and merging it, if you use chrome the cookies don't seam to save correctly and have to start all over again when go past few steps creating. Also firefox doesn't seam to like it but with IE i had no problems.
