WOW adds Black Temple

Take on super-boss Illidan.

Blizzard has revealed that patch 2.1.0 for World of Warcraft will introduce the Black Temple as an instance, home of Illidan The Betrayer.

It's he who rules over The Outlands - the new zone introduced in The Burning Crusade - so expect it to be a hardcore instance, probably a 25-man raid affair.

Alongside the new dungeon is an vast slog of class updates and fixes, tweaking the tidal-wave of new stuff that the expansion added. There's also a new PvP Arena to explore in The Ruins of Lordaeron, and Epic flying mounts, Nether Drakes, will finally be available.

Druids will be treated to their own Epic-flight form, obtained by completing a freshly integrated quest, which is similar to the Warlock and Paladin Epic (horse) mount quests.

The patch is expected to go live in Europe on Wednesday, and you can get your juices flowing by watching The Black Temple trailer on Eurogamer TV.

Alternatively you can tuck into the full list of changes over on the official World of Warcraft site.

While you're there, you might also want to speculate on the new game Blizzard is planning to announce. The site shows a time-line of the developer's games to date, with a question mark over a new project.

But it looks like we'll have to wait until 19th May to find out whether it really is the StarCraft MMO or sequel that's so heavily rumoured, as Blizzard takes to the stage at its South Korean event.

Take on Illidian after grinding to get the attunement for 10 months more like it.
  • WrongShui #2 5 years ago

    This was revealed forever ago!

They also remove the /console Pitchlimit command in this patch so no more flying upside down and loop the loops :(
  • dudefella #3 5 years ago

haha I wonder what the attunement quest will be like

    probably HUGE

    YOU ARE NOT PREPARED!

    :p
  • justsomeone #7 5 years ago

are people still playing WOW? how quaint.
  • MightyMouse #8 5 years ago

Well, it's waning and by the time it hits the 'difficult second expansion' the writing will be on the wall for WoW. I know EG liked LOTRO, but it's had very bad press on the wow forums (unsurprisingly). Worth a look?
  • dudefella #9 5 years ago

oh, of course, it's a thread about WoW so there's the few obligatory 'lol wow sux' comments. you people are more pathetic than those who play WoW - you feel the need to affirm that you are a better person or something?
  • souljacker2000 #10 5 years ago

  • mechamonkey #11 5 years ago

It'll be a long time before many people even get a whiff of this place, coem on Blizzard make soem 25 man content for more casual guilds please!
  • jamespo #12 5 years ago

you people are more pathetic than those who play WoW

I am an ex-WoW player and I don't miss it one bit.

There were people in my guild with > 100 days /played time.
  • justsomeone #13 5 years ago

Actually, I played WOW for quite some time, capped, kept playing, but something was lacking. Eventually I realised what it was - I wasn't, personally, a 25/40 man team, and so was locked out of almost all the content unless I somehow acquired and maintained friendships with a large number of teen bottle pissers. Yes I passed on that.

So it was either PvP on an industrial scale, grinding reputation/faction, or quit. I quit. And I'm certain you'll tell me "good riddance", so you needn't bother.
  • thedaveeyres #14 5 years ago

dudefella - no one... NO ONE... is more pathetic than those who play WoW. I sank a whole load of hours into that tripe before I saw the error of my ways :D
  • souljacker2000 #15 5 years ago

I dont actually no any1 personally who plays WOW... if i did id b round there giving em a slap.. forcing them out the house. How sad must people b to sit on their pcs all day and nite playin the same game over n over again...
  • Dizzy #16 5 years ago

"How sad must people b to sit on their pcs all day and nite playin the same game over n over again... "

Then again some people play Final Fantasy or die from marathon Counter Strike sessions.
  • souljacker2000 #17 5 years ago

because everybody who likes wow is playing it rite now.. why would they be on here saying how 'good' it is
  • loopy #18 5 years ago

I play WoW (and still enjoy up to a point), but I'm not playing right now. ;)

That said, I'm pretty sure I'm never going to see this instance during the lifetime of the current expansion

I cancelled my account about a week ago. After getting a few 60's, and trying the new races, it was all too much 'same old same old'. The whole playstyle was burnt out for me - I'd been playing it from launch, and I think I've had enough.

I've got the 14 day trial for City of Heroes and it's entertainingly diverting, but I don't think that will get me paying for it. I think I'm off MMOG's for a while - currently I'm playing the UWC3 CS 1.6 mod :) It's great!
  • dudefella #20 5 years ago

Listen - not everyone who plays WoW is a hopeless addict.

No one has the right to judge other people based on (one of their) hobbies. So stop feeling superior and get over yourself.

That said, I played WoW myself off and on and am in an off-phase now. Doesn't matter, it's still a great game, if you think it sucks, what are you even doing in this thread? Just let people play their games.
  • FunkyRenegade #21 5 years ago

    omglol i play wow
that meens i hav no lyf n stuff.

    Fuck that.
Did you know it's IS actually possible to mantain a social life AND play an MMORPG?!
But really... Everyone knew about The Black Temple being in Patch 2.1 since two or three months ago :p

But, but, there's a new trailer!

  • warthog2k #23 5 years ago

Same as anything - all good things in moderation. e.g. I like beer but I don't drink beer for 8 hours a day every day. That would be stupid. When I choose to have a drink I only drink with sensible like-minded people that I get on with and avoid going to places filled with pissed up kids. Same applies to WoW.

A lot of the end game is accessible to lightweights like myself. I'm fortunate to be in a mature guild (majority of members 25+ with kids to put to bed etc.) and we manage to have a good time.

Been playing since launch and only just hit the level cap. Fortunately I'm happy enough with the size of my ePeen and see no need to invest 100 hours a week in the game so that I don't feel inadequate.

Oh yeah - I manage to have a life, a wife, a child and a full time job.

I confess I find the continual "wow = ur no leif" comments a little tedious, but it's to be expected. I'm assuming that CVG's online colouring-in pages are offline due to all the chinese gold farmers again.

I enjoy it, 8 million other appear to do so to. When I stop enjoying it I'll stop playing. Simple.

    Hook. Line. Sinker.

    Every bloody time. :D
  • justsomeone #25 5 years ago

The article is about high-end content, and no, it's not possible to participate seriously in the high-end, 25/40 man raiding content *and* have a life. It just isn't. If you're participating in the content at this level, then whatever life you believe you have is seriously compromised, and you're in denial.
  • dudefella #26 5 years ago

Yeah, because 2-3 hours per night twice a week is clearly going to DESTROY your social life.
  • FunkyRenegade #27 5 years ago

    @justsomeone

you know there actually are relatively relaxed raiding guilds?
that will only raid a couple times a week
6 or 7 hours a week is nothing.
  • AOFanboi #28 5 years ago

I quit WoW because I realized I was losing interest in my characters between level 30 and 40 and started new ones. I went to LOTRO instead, and am currently having more fun - more quests, different crafting, so I am willing to forgive that it's not much more than a re-skinned and WoW-ified Asheron's Call 2.
  • Aga #29 5 years ago

    ye know too much
  • ratso #30 5 years ago

iv been playing for a nearly 3 weeks and its starting to wear thin.

it takes an age to do anything in the game, thats the worst thing the maps are so big you spend most of your time wandering.

its a boring game once you get over the addiction that is outfitting your character with new stuff. i said id play until i got a horse, but whats the point?
  • Venkman90 #31 5 years ago

I tend to find people who feel the need to rub your nose in the fact they quit are like people who hang out in the smoking room telling the smokers they are idiots.

You quit? good for you, gtfo of the WoW discussion.

I'm in a relaxed raiding guild, only need to do 2 raids a week, zomg thats like 8 whole hours a week max...some people watch that much TV a night ffs (and I dont even watch the idiot box)

  • Azazel #32 5 years ago

When I finish this university exam based silliness I plan to start playing an MMOG. Think I might give that City of Heroes trial a go... I'm not into the idea of WoW much tbh... Warhammer Online looks interesting and then there's the whole LotR online thing to consider as well... bah, too many choices!

Um... is a good thing probably.
  • Orange #33 5 years ago

I had some really good times playing WoW, but I'm definitely glad I've quit again. Just feels like they ran out of ideas and the only good parts are things taken from other games. The ex-Everquest developers get the blame and I think it's justified, the game now is only about them dripfeeding enough to keep people playing rather than delivering a genuinely great game.

Roll on the next round of mmos.
  • MaxiSleep #34 5 years ago

I am happy pottering around in LOTR online. I have given up on my 70's in WoW cos the game went from fun to stupid once I got to Kara. Having done months of ony/mc grind before the expansion I am not really into going through that again.
