Worms XBLA finally certified News

Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

27 February, 2007

Worms long-awaited Xbox Live Arcade release got a little closer today, with the news that the Team 17 classic has officially passed its certification process.

Team 17 studio director Martyn Brown told Eurogamer the good news earlier this morning, but admitted a release date has yet to be confirmed.

"We're not sure of the date just yet - it's only been certified for about six hours! - but I imagine it'll be a few weeks given the line up," Brown told us.

Despite the ongoing delays in burrowing towards the elusive certification, Brown remains positive about the overall experience, telling us he had enjoyed making Worms for XBLA. He also revealed that he hoped the Wakefield-based developer would be a part of future downloadable projects.

"We've really embraced the whole digital network stuff; enjoyed bringing Worms to XBLA and also Lemmings for PS3," he added.

Which leaves us with plenty of room to speculate about what Team 17 will bring us next. Hands up for Live co-op Alien Breed.

It was supposed to be out a while back, bunch of last minute cert shinanighans put a mocker on that though. BTW Was initially released in 1995, not 1994 :)

This one's a bit removed from that, what with all this super-sharp, widescreen high-def, nice audio, lovely wireless control and live-mulitplayer (as well as girlfriend-friendly offline stuff).

I can't tell you the price, but it's been widely reported elsewhere.

Worms - "Pink, hard and coming soon" (The original worms innuendo, from 1995)

Oh and yes, I was grabbed on MSN... Krudster spotted the comment in the AH thread.

Despite Worms DS being inconsistent and buggy the underlying gold shines though regardless, and we're still playing it at lunchtimes here.

Great news, great game, but does anyone know M$'s policy for release? Are they sticking to this stupid one title every (other (if you're lucky) ) Wednesday or will they ship 2 or more games if they're ready to go and make 'em money?

I remember what my old Sainsbury's manager once said to me: "Things don't get sold when they're still in the warehouse" - unless you're Amazon. Or Argos. Actually that's a really stupid motto - no wonder Sainsbury's have succumbed to Tesco's Empire-like might. Sorry for digressing and - to recap - woo worms, etc, etc.

Super Frog for consoles! That would rock my world. Please, put out the original on XBLA, PSP and DS and make a great sequel for the new consoles. Thank you.

Despite Worms3D actually doing very well commercially (I think it's long since past 1m units on all formats) we have no plans to do another title in full 3D. There is no pressure to do games in 3d for the sake of it anymore, I think everyone's over that - which is great, just great!

We'd happily even use something like the Unreal3 engine to do a 2D game, using 3D effects and all that fancy stuff that some folks get all sticky about - sprites in the border, you name it.

You're talking to the original Spadge :) Boggy B was Bjorn Lynne's Worm and he's now back in Norway doing his music stuff.

I'm sorry WhooHoo! - there's no HHG in this, it's pretty balanced and skill dependent. There's bananas, sheep and dynamite for the big-bangs but we've kept the core strategic play for this one rather than huge explosions - streamlined, tightly balanced weapon set too. The HHG may return one day though...

And yes, great rope action (but not as rope-dependent as the hard-core like).

Shido. It's kind of a mix of Worms 1 + Worms 2 (It's all new code, not a port of the original stuff).

It's in high def, widescreen, 2D. Cosmetically it's like a super-high rez edition of last year's successful (and very playable) PSP version but with all the 360 bits and bob's you would expect (controls, multiplayer Live, leaderboards and all that).

Super comfy to play on the 360, too.

Spadge, I love the psp version, its probably been the longest resident in the UMD slot. My one critisism however, is the amount of time the AI uses to plan its next move. Any speed improvements in this regard on the 360 version?

Cheers.

It's good that it more centred on worms 1 and 2 without too many extraneous weapons. Sounds more tactical. Another thing to add to my possible reason to get a 360 list. Live network was made for this kind of thing.
