World's Best DJ gets own Wii game
Armin van Buuren's big trance.
Foreign Media Games is making a Wii music game based on Armin van Buuren, the World's Best DJ, according to DJ Magazine.
The Dutchman's trance anthems can be mixed using effects and loops, and he's so pleased that he's offering some of his unheard music to developer Cloud 9 for the game. He's even persuaded artists he regularly works with to contribute. What a guy.
"I've been a huge games freak for years and I am, of course, a music fanatic," said the blonde-haired spinner.
"Music mixing technology has improved enormously over the past few years. You can do a lot more with your choice of records and the various effects, making it even more fun to mesmerise your audience, take them on a musical journey and let them party on.
"Now you can discover how great it is to mix your own music in your own living room! This game shows you how I work as a DJ, but you can use your own style. Perfect your skills and make your friends and family totally crazy about dance and trance," he added.
Armin van Buuren - In the Mix will be released exclusively for Wii this autumn.

On another note, how the hell are these DJ game's going to work? I mean, 90% of djing is track selection. Since everything is already going to be on the disc or downloaded especially it's hardly going to leave a lot of space for digging is it? Is it just going to be a beat match simulator with a bit of eq and fx thrown in? Sounds like bollocks, just get some cheap decks and do it for real.

Does anyone actually pay any attention to who the best DJ is? (With the exception of top trump collectors, and people who are to young to g out) I don't care - now let me get back to my Carl Cox Mixtapes and listen to some real music.

Aha. I assume you won't be pursuing a sideline in music journalism then.

Still, nothing like the interweb to get people into a tizz about such things. I would vote for Lee Burridge, personally, but then I haven't been to any events since 2002 and am still listening to my Tyrant mix CDs.

Haters, please accept that some people have different taste in music to you. Obviously the Worlds Best DJ title is just marketing hyperbole but to slag off an entire genre of music is a little bit pretentious. It's all art at the end of the day.

There are technically better DJ's around, but a DJ's job is to entertain the crowd & keep the dancefloor jumping & he does that consistantly. It's no good being the most technically skilled DJ around if the people on the floor couldn't give a shit about the tracks you're playing.
I'd vote for Sasha personally, but i've had some amazing nights when Armin's been playing.

I was kinda late in hearing Tiesto's stuff, & when i did, i couldn't quite understand why he had such an enormous following. Then i heard the Magik series & the early ISOS mixes & i totally got it.
