World's Best DJ gets own Wii game

Armin van Buuren's big trance.

Foreign Media Games is making a Wii music game based on Armin van Buuren, the World's Best DJ, according to DJ Magazine.

The Dutchman's trance anthems can be mixed using effects and loops, and he's so pleased that he's offering some of his unheard music to developer Cloud 9 for the game. He's even persuaded artists he regularly works with to contribute. What a guy.

"I've been a huge games freak for years and I am, of course, a music fanatic," said the blonde-haired spinner.

"Music mixing technology has improved enormously over the past few years. You can do a lot more with your choice of records and the various effects, making it even more fun to mesmerise your audience, take them on a musical journey and let them party on.

"Now you can discover how great it is to mix your own music in your own living room! This game shows you how I work as a DJ, but you can use your own style. Perfect your skills and make your friends and family totally crazy about dance and trance," he added.

Armin van Buuren - In the Mix will be released exclusively for Wii this autumn.

"Worlds Best DJ" and "Trance" should not go in the same sentence. Or article.

More DJ/turntable type rubbish, either the world is short of people with ideas or they are just rushing to copy each other in the slim hope of having a hit.

@ theodg: Couldn't agree more. There must really be a lot of idiots out there if a trance DJ can be called the World's Best DJ. Terrible, terrible style of music.

To be fair, there are a few 'genres' of dance music that are actually worse than trance. Like "Electro House", "Bassline", "Fidget House", and of course, everyone's 90s favourite, "Eurodance". Trance is pretty shit though and I'm surprised the DJs of the genre aren't out of work since it all became a bit redundant after 2002.

Once it gets big enough, 95% of any genre is shite. Some genres buck the trend and go for 99.99%, ever adding another decimal place in search of that elusive 100%. But there are tunes which are probably fairly described as trance which are, somehow, good.

On another note, how the hell are these DJ game's going to work? I mean, 90% of djing is track selection. Since everything is already going to be on the disc or downloaded especially it's hardly going to leave a lot of space for digging is it? Is it just going to be a beat match simulator with a bit of eq and fx thrown in? Sounds like bollocks, just get some cheap decks and do it for real.

This just in, The caring public have voted for the shortlist for next years Worlds Best DJ . It has been announced with just three entries in the running 1) Cascada 2)Ultrabeat 3)BassHunter.

Does anyone actually pay any attention to who the best DJ is? (With the exception of top trump collectors, and people who are to young to g out) I don't care - now let me get back to my Carl Cox Mixtapes and listen to some real music.

@woodnotes: Very good point actually. At least Trance didn't kill my beloved Breaks scene like Electro House and Fidgit House did.

World's Best DJ gets own Wii game

    Armin van Buuren's big trance.

Aha. I assume you won't be pursuing a sideline in music journalism then.

Considering the DJ poll is probably the biggest of its kind, I think it's fair to say he is the "worlds best" in light of their being no other remotely accurate way of gauging such a thing...although obviously everyones opinion is going to vary massively.

Still, nothing like the interweb to get people into a tizz about such things. I would vote for Lee Burridge, personally, but then I haven't been to any events since 2002 and am still listening to my Tyrant mix CDs.

Jesus! The amount of trance hate in here, a lot of people are very, very bitter ... Trance is an awesome form of music, but, like any other damn genre, it has its good artists and it has its bad artists. The perennial top 100 DJs list (as voted by the gullible, gullible public) is a perfect way of showcasing all the worst aspects of trance. Dig deeper, listen to home-made mixes and ignore the commercialised 'top-flight' records and you might just discover something worth listening to. Ah, of course, you'll probably want to take my opinion with a handful of finest sea-salt since I really enjoy a lot of DJ Tiesto's stuff.
  • Chufty #24 3 years ago

Awesome. Armin is a legend, even though Trance isn't precisely my thing.

Haters, please accept that some people have different taste in music to you. Obviously the Worlds Best DJ title is just marketing hyperbole but to slag off an entire genre of music is a little bit pretentious. It's all art at the end of the day.
  • MrE26 #25 3 years ago

AvB was voted #1 by dance music fans, seems as fair a way as any for these things to be judged. Naturally that makes him a figure of scorn on the net by trance haters. I'm pretty sure he couldn't give a fuck though, & given how incredibly popular the likes of him & Tiesto are, they've gotta be doing something right.

There are technically better DJ's around, but a DJ's job is to entertain the crowd & keep the dancefloor jumping & he does that consistantly. It's no good being the most technically skilled DJ around if the people on the floor couldn't give a shit about the tracks you're playing.

I'd vote for Sasha personally, but i've had some amazing nights when Armin's been playing.

Rapture - Iio (Armin van Buuren mix) = pure sex. Listening to that loud and at a gig blows me away every time.
  • metalangel #27 3 years ago

Why not just buy some proper DJ software and do it for real on your PC? Even Van Buuren doesn't believe this shit.
  • MrE26 #28 3 years ago

Van Buuren's remix of Viola is aural sex.
  • Tetsuo_Shima #29 3 years ago

"Van Buuren's remix of Viola is aural sex."

Magik 6 ;) One of Tiesto's best mixes.
  • MrE26 #30 3 years ago

Magik 6 ;) One of Tiesto's best mixes.

I was kinda late in hearing Tiesto's stuff, & when i did, i couldn't quite understand why he had such an enormous following. Then i heard the Magik series & the early ISOS mixes & i totally got it.
