Hats off to Mastertronic on this one. In all likelihood, World of Goo and its ilk would not make it to retail as they are too much of a risk. However, distributed alongside their range of more mainstream product in their other ranges, there is a good chance you'll see this on the high street.

I hope this works out for everyone involved, disc-based retail needs a little more variety, and more importantly it's quite hard to wrap a Steam game up for Christmas.

Mastertronic were all about indie developers in the 80's.

I got a game published with them i'd made in my bedroom at my mums house...

Good to see them branching out after the success of World of Goo, but indie PC games at retail? When PC games are moving faster and faster towards downloads it doesn't exactly sound like a forward-thinking strategy.

But hey, they know more than me so it's not like they won't have thought it through. Good luck to them.

Good on them - this is how it should be. Mastertronic published a lot of great games years ago at £1.99.

It might even take the price of P.C. games down and make pirates think twice.

when i was a kid we used to pirate games which cost a quid.

No matter what pirates say - it doesnt matter how cheap games are, if they can get them for free, they'll carry on.

Well, the pirates claim that they only pirate games because they are too expensive, so this might work.

Got to say, you are lucky Smelly. MobyGames have missed out far more of my games than they have online! Even after I have emailed them to update them....... The games version of IMDB.com it isn't :(

pirates are not price sensitive. best of luck to mastertronic and these quality indie games, it's tough at retail for PC.

20€? That's also zero Eurodollars cheaper than Steam, and I find no reason to care about this. Or the Steam version. Or the asshole (earlier) European publishers who forced 2DBoy to sell the online game in Europe with the same (ridiculous) price tag as the retail version. 20 Euros? Really? Really!?

It's not that I don't think the game is worth 20 Euros, it's the principle that matters. 2DBoy would happily sell me the game for a few bucks less, but this arrangement is punishing me for where I was born.

I bought this game on steam for £6.99 (possibly even cheaper, I can't recall the exact deal.)

The point being for £7 this charming, but slight, game was a good deal.

£15 is way too high a price for it.

And who still buys PC games at retail?

Me too. Buying downloadable games makes me feel as if I was buying vapor and my snail-speed adsl doesn't help either.

Some people here seem to think pirates are from another planet. I'm I pirate, I guess. I use P2P networks to test games when there is no demo and I'm not sure if I will like the game or if my PC will be able to run it; or to get discontinued games. But next to me I have a shelf full of more than one hundred original games, a huge share of them bought when the price tag was lower than 20€. So yes, pirates (and non-pirates) buy more games when they are cheap.
