World in Conflict on consoles in autumn News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

14 February, 2008

Sierra Entertainment has said World if Conflict will be available on PS3 and 360 this autumn.

Both are being made by Swordfish Studios under the watchful eye of Massive Entertainment, and will feature new content in the single-player campaigns and multiplayer modes.

Those of you who bought this last year on PC will be given this too, presumably in a patch. Or maybe an injection.

We had previously hoped to see the Xbox 360 version of World in Conflict late last year, but Sierra hoofed it into 2008.

Whatever the reason for the delay, the game remains an exciting prospect; World in Conflict is a real-time strategy game without all the base building but with all the ordering troops around in big cinematic battles. Should work quite well on console, providing someone can finally map the controls so they feel natural rather than not-as-good-as-a-mouse.

Head over to our World in Conflict review to find out more.

Really enjoyed the demo on the PC but didn't buy the full game. Was a mix of lack of time and that my PC was struggling a tiny bit. Therefor I appreciate the console release, if the controls work out fine I guess I'll buy this. Also this game isn't that focused on micro management which should make the controls a lot easier to implement.

Been meaning to get this for a while but kept getting pushed to the back of my 'list.'

A 360 version, providing the controls are done well, may well be quite tempting.

I hope this is good. It looks mighty fine on consoles, and I probably won't own a PC which can run it until about 2012.

I'd rather Swordfish spent the time making Cold Winter 2, though.

WiC is absolutely fantastic. The multiplayer is probably as good as Company of Heroes' MP, and if any RTS can work on a console, it's this. It still won't be AS good as Mouse and Keyboard, but it will work well.

If they give the PS3 version optional mouse & keyboard controlls then i would be deilighted.
One of those games i would love to play but don't have a PC capable of running it.
