World first kill of Kil'jaeden News

MMO PC News by Oli Welsh

27 May, 2008

European World of Warcraft guild SK Gaming has become the first in the world to kill Kil'jaeden - the final boss of the Sunwell Plateau raid dungeon, released in the Fury of the Sunwell update two months ago.

The feat, accomplished on Saturday, brings the second cycle of the game to a close. Blizzard will be adding no more major raid dungeons to WOW before next expansion Wrath of the Lich King is released, so Kil'jaeden represents the ultimate end boss of the Burning Crusade era.

It took three days from the gates to Kil'jaeden being opened on SK Gaming's server, Vek'nilash, to SK Gaming claiming the first kill. No US guild has yet downed the big boss of the Burning Legion, despite the gates being open a day longer Stateside. Go Europe!

SK Gaming's achievement ends an impressive run by Nihilum, another European guild. Nihilum had previously been the first guild in the world to take down every end boss in WOW since C'Thun, god of the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj, two years ago.

For those who care, loot was Hammer of Sanctification, Thalassian Ranger Gauntlets, Cover of Ursol the Wise, Cover of Ursoc the Mighty and Hand of the Deceiver. SK Gaming used a line-up of one feral druid, three hunters, one mage, two paladins, four priests, three rogues, five shamans, four warlocks, and two warriors.

Nonetheless, I believe it's traditional to say "LOL US!1 L2P NUBZ!"

Yet another boss in yet another instance that most players will never even see... I wonder why they keep adding them. I'm glad I'm "clean" for over 6 months now.

No, it's proof you have a conspiracy theory and a problem with the game.

Of course it's headline news, the biggest game in the world, a big achievement that is met by rewards from the guilds sponsors, it's an event that deserves reporting.

They got the "Cover of Ursoc the Mighty" ?? I knew that sodding Kil'jaeden pinched it after he was round playing Top Trumps with me last week.

I had to resort to using the "Duvet of Kip'pa the Uncertain" to keep warm.

Sorry to sound geeky but technically... you don't kill him. You simply stop him from entering the world of Azeroth.

Er, and this is news why? Sure, a lot of people play WoW and its a big game and all. But... front page news on a gaming site? Come on. There are more interesting news stories out there, surely.

Or is it just a slow news day?

It's more "news" than "Sony sells 1 more copy of Y than Microsoft" or "Microsoft sells 1 more copy of X than Nintendo", if you ask me. At least it's about GAMING.

I must be getting old. I read this and thought "Poor buggers really need to get out more". I suppose nudging 31 is positively ancient in the gaming industry!

Having been part of an anally retentive guild in "the old days" (Heretic, Dragonblight), I can only imagine the sort of military operation this must have been.

Well done guys, you've managed to organise a feat that likely required a higher degree of organisation than most real world-based business projects!

It only takes a cursory check on any raid tracking website (like wowjutsu for example) to see that four guilds have currently downed Kil'jaeden including Deus Vox from the US as correctly stated in an earlier comment.

Yeah. Anyone would think that this site had better things to do than obsessively follow a WOW records listing.

If you're going to put up a news article about something very niche then you might as well spend 20 seconds and check that one of the jokes you're trying to make is still factually correct at the moment of publishing.

This is of some interest to me as, having recently bought a new computer, I've redisovered WoW as I can now stick all the setings to max and it looks like a completely diferent game to me. My problem with this stuff though is the sheer effort involved. I've been playing Warcraft since the first game and I love the storyline/history of Azeroth. But to really get the best out of WoW storyline-wise I would have to start raiding and that requires more time then I'm willing to put into any one game. I've never even got a character to 60, let alone 70, because I just get bored of the playing style of each class long before I've put the requesite time in.

Yeah, there's this story that went around a while back about some bloke landing a good job because he wrote on his CV he'd organized 40-man raids in WoW. Urban myth, anyone?

Also got a good laugh out of the GTA shamans comment, this was good for a 9am chuckle, cheers!

Incidently... didn't they say something like 0.5% of WoW's population actually saw Illidan (so I would guess less or a similar amount of this dude)...... so it does make me wonder why they bother, I'm sure there's a reason behind it.
