WipEout Pulse content every week News

PSP News by Robert Purchese

8 February, 2008

Sony has said it will be releasing fresh tracks and craft for WipEout Pulse every week throughout February.

The first of these was released yesterday. This Mirage Pack introduced the all-rounder Mantis craft and fresh tracks Egewinter White, based in a busy city on a storm-racked island, and Vostock Reef, an undersea circuit with fishes and things.

Following on 14th February is the Icaras pack. Inside is a speedy craft with bad shields, alongside Egewinter Black and fiddly Moroccan course Gemini Dam White.

The Harimau Pack will spring up a week later, containing a relatively fast craft with good handling, subterranean track Orcus White, and North African course Gemini Dam Black.

Finally the Auricom Pack will arrive on 28th February. Its ship is a mystery but is said to be very fast, with Orcus Black and Vostock Reef White courses rounding out the bundle.

All of these will be available from the PC Store to download and transfer to your PSP, and each will presumably cost GBP 3.49 like the Mirage Pack.

So that's over a tenner for essentially 3 new tracks (forward and reverse) and 3 new ships. Not good value - I was mistakenly thinking that they'd go up for free - just like the Pure content. I'm really not happy about it.

Isn't counting the 'black' and 'white' versions of the courses as separate tracks a bit cheeky where DLC is concerned? So you effectively get one track and one ship per pack... wow, what a bargain.

Well, seeing that SL/ Sony promoted Pulse featuring 24 tracks from the beginning (although it's just 12 with their reversed versions) it goes along well with their current marketing. Shame.

Yep, it's ridiculous.

Not to mention the fact that the new ships can't be used online.

Dissapointed with charging for content which when released for Pure was free.

Hopefully Sony will take a leaf out of MS's book and make it free after a couple of months, or at least reduce the price.

Far too expensive - Pulse itself is great but the DLC may become the first wipEout products in 13 years I've not bought.

Just goes to show you how times have been changing lately.

I really enjoyed Pulse but I won't be paying so much for so little. Maybe if a pack is made in the future that encompasses all the content for a cheaper price I'll consider it but for now, forgeta'boutit.

€15 for three ships and tracks is just not good enough. Way too expensive.

You must be joking Sony!

As a long time Wipeout fan/player. Pure had Free content (and cracking content it was too).

Again..... you must be joking.

If it cost just one or two euro, that I might find reasonable. 5 euro is just too fucking much.

Kiss my ass, Sony.

I'd pay 5€ for all packs together, but just for a ship and a couple of tracks.. no way. The lack of OS X support of the PSN store adds to insult. Anyways, I got my PSP lite just for playing the Wipeout games. Now that I'm done with them, and withouth free extra content, it's already heading to e-bay..

:(

Happy with the content, disappointed with the price and bundling arrangements.

I don't mind forking out but that's massively, disproportionately expensive compared to the content that came with the original game.
It'll basically mean I buy less of them.

Or none at all if the post about Mac OSX is to be trusted...

Highly overvalued; Pulse is a terrific game but this should be a single upgrade.

@Vermillion: In order to use the PSN you need to 1st) use Internet Explorer to access the site and 2nd) Use the Windows-only (.exe) PSN downloader to download the content and put it into your PSP. Pretty stupid IMHO.
