WipEout, Metal Gear Online demos soon

Christmas Eve downloads for PSN fans.

Sony and Konami respectively have announced WipEout HD and Metal Gear Online demos for release on Christmas Eve, which is Wednesday, 24th December in old money.

The WipEout HD demo consists of one track, which you can play as much as you like, and then shows you the others once you've finished racing it. Look but don't touch.

Once you're done, you'll be able to go to the PlayStation online shop and buy the game at a reduced price, although Sony hasn't got back to us about what that is yet. At the moment WipEout HD costs GBP 13.99.

Meanwhile, Metal Gear Online's demo will allow you to play on three maps (Blood Bath, Gronznyi Grad and Midtown Maelstrom) in seven modes (DM, TDM, Rescue Mission, Capture Mission, Base Mission, Sneaking Mission and Team Sneaking) with 16 players supported and customisable characters.

Dedicated servers have been set up for demo "to ensure that newcomers...are not overcome by its 1,000,000 registered - and highly-skilled - users", according to Konami, and they'll be up until 16th February. The demo itself will be available until 29th January.

Finally, Konami's releasing a special, limited edition MGO T-shirt for use in the game, which will be given to 1200 randomly-chosen buyers of the MEME expansion. If you win, you should get it on 6th January.

I might get that MGO demo, just because I'm too lazy to put in a game disc. I know that's really, really lazy, but I care not. Pretty generous demo too.

Still not much interest in Wipeout, but I'll probably have a go.

Call me slow, but aren't demos supposed to come out before or at the same time as the actual game? Or is this just a way of mopping up some extra sales some months later from the people who wouldn't buy it blind?

These 2 games are high profile enough to sell well without the need of demos. But several months later it is a good time to release demos to attract the stragglers. God, I sound like a marketing tw@t

MGO has a shite logon system. I can see many people being put off by it.

The MGS single player demo has been available on the US store for sometime no?

    Wipeout el_pollo_diablo + 1

I'd agree with that. I've not touched MGO since owning the game. I only played it on the beta because it was a chance to get to grips with the MGS game before it came out.

LBP costumes, PSP games (many at rip off prices), Rock band music and now demos of long released games I already have :(

After a spectacular year PSN is slipping further into mediocre again lately for me (still I suppose you can't get it good all year!). Up your game again in the new year Sony, you impressed me with PSN for a lot of 2008...

Oh, and Sony, I'd be seriously pissed at you and Capcom if I didn't have a 360 and rightly so. Sort out those PS3 only people you scumbags.....

/ turns on 360 SSF2THDR and forgets those poor PS3 only owners ;)

Ah cool a wipeout demo, might give that a go, everyone raves about it, but want to play the demo before getting it. So its a win for me.. well done PSN :D

Wipeout HD purchase is a no brainer as the Americans would say. Not many tracks but for £11.99 (what I bought it for anyway) it's pretty much perfect.

That MGO demo would be great if they'd gotten rid of the stinking Konami ID crap.

Wipeout is a steal as it is, so any price reduction makes it even more of a steal!

Ah was feeling sick of work today, so purchased Wipeout rather than wait for the demo... its very cool, got beaten bigtime online though :)

After buying other MGS and trying to figure out the incomprehensible storylines, I passed on MGS4. I downloaded the offline demo and haven't bothered playing it. I don't think I'll be getting a KonamiID for this.

A while back i got a lend of MGS 4 from a friend for a few nights. i never played any of the MGS series before and i enjoyed it alot but i didnt play it online as i was concentrating on the story mode. Yesterday i downloaded the online MGS demo but when i went to play it a message appeared saying that i was already registered and it wouldnt play for some reason.

Has anyone else had this problem?
