WipEout HD price announced
Release date still to be confirmed.
Sony has announced that WipEout HD will cost GBP 11.99 when it launches, but the release date has yet to be confirmed.
WipEout HD is Sony's 60 frames-per-second, 1080p downloadable PS3 take on the classic futuristic racing series, featuring tracks borrowed from the excellent PSP duo, WipEout Pure and Pulse.
The game was held up recently by a specific technical problem - believed to be a failed safety test for epilepsy.
However, Sony went on to deny that, claiming the real reason for the delay was to add new features like Trophy support, eight reverse tracks, four extra tracks and two-player split-screen.
Whatever the reality, you can expect to read our review of the finished game very soon, and can check out our WipEout HD hands-on preview in the meantime.

I don't even want it anyway, but there are those that do. Even a vague before/after Christmas would be enough..

I've been drooling for this one ever since I got my PS3 a year ago.
I want it. Bad.

Review soon must mean the date can't be too far off.

Either is a good price though, was expecting more like £20. As usual Sony's PSN pricing policy comes up good, even if the same can't be said of their release dates...

+ 1, it's impressed me a lot when I want to buy a impulse game on download I always buy off PSN now. Marketplace hasn't had anything that interesting for me lately.
Just get some more bloody PS1 classics on there (and PS2)!!!!!!!

A few threads at the EU Playstation forum say that one article mentioning this price also a "probably late September" release, but of course that's so vague that they might just have been jumping to conclusions.
Anyway, it very sounds like we won't have to wait quite until Christmas or 2009 for this game.

i guess the low price is also telling of why we're not going to get another f-zero: these futuristic racers are a bit 90's / hardcore for todays mass market.

No, as the trailer said : "PlayStation Network Exclusive"

They're saying no at the moment, but depending on how well it does, I wouldn't be surprised if a Blu-ray version follows three or six months later - Wipeout is a well-known series, and not all PS3 owners are going to be online. Also, having this on a shop shelf might be enticing for non-PS3 owners who know the series.
And Rollcage is long since past a second sequel. I think it would fit well as either a PSP game or another PSN title.

Rollcage was a great game,it's the first time I'd seen destructible environments in a racing game, it's a pity the dev shut down after rollcage 2 (I think I read that somewhere)

8 tracks (with reverse mode, so 16), and 12 teams. Which is twice as much content as the original WO1 and WO2097, (which with inflation would be somewhere like 4-6 times as expensive on release).
http://en.wik ipedia.org/wiki/Wipeout_HD
And frankly I am quite happy to buy bite sized extras - if the rumours of old 2097 and earlier tracks are true, plus I'm sure there will be new ones. If it ends up with a vast library of tracks for a full game price total, who cares? I was so suspicious of DLC at the outset, but this (and Warhawk, and plenty of others on both sides of the MS fence) are doing it so right. And you only end up buying the extras if the game is good enough (pleasepleasepleaseplease).
When this comes out, the PSN servers are going to explode with the demand. It's going to be like a bl*wjob after 5 years in the desert.

I was just going to get Motor Storm 2 for my racing fun.
But this is very tempting with this announcement...
PSN just keeps getting better!
