Win thousands of MS Points this week

Download XBL content to enter.

Microsoft will be giving away over a million MS Points this week - and all you have to do to be in with a chance is use the New Xbox Experience to download Marketplace content.

Specifically, gamers from the US, Canada, Singapore and the UK (over 18) will stand a shot at 46 prizes, the star attraction of which is a whopping 500,000 MS Points (GBP 4250).

After that, there are five lots of 50,000 MS Points (GBP 425), ten batches of 10,000 MS Points (GBP 85), and 30 lumps of 5000 MS Points (GBP 42.50).

To enter, all you have to do is download a film, a telly show, a full Xbox Live Arcade game, an Xbox Originals game or a game add-on.

The sweepstake runs from 2pm (GMT) Wednesday 19th November (New Xbox Experience launch), to early morning on Monday 24th November.

There are a maximum of ten entries per Xbox Live profile, and registration involves downloading the "NXE Download and Win" gamer picture.

You could buy lots of horse armour with that money.

So you have to spend money to make money?
  • penhalion #2 3 years ago

    First obvious question

Can you refund you MS points?

Only, given it's coming up to Christmas, I'd rather take the cash thank you!
  • BlueDot #3 3 years ago

Well, I was thinking of getting Puzzle Quest, got a good excuse now.
  • Peew971 #4 3 years ago

What's the cheapest game add-on on Marketplace? It might be worth a shot.
  • chrisjm #5 3 years ago

can you gift points yet? i suppose you could sell some of them, anyone who attempts to spunks 4K worth of points is mad

Anyone know when the XBL Banjo Kazooie comes out? Thats about all im interested in!
  • Monkey_Puncher #9 3 years ago

Ninja Bee's latest comes out on Wednesday so I'll probably get that and maybe some MK3 love as well.
  • moggsy #10 3 years ago

What an earth could you spend 4 thousand quids worth of MS points on? What a pointless prize.
  • siro #11 3 years ago

Of course not for Germany. Of course not!
  • kangarootoo #12 3 years ago

So you have to pay to enter?

    Sucks.
  • steviepunk #13 3 years ago

"What an earth could you spend 4 thousand quids worth of MS points on? What a pointless prize. "

Yeah, probably wouldn't be able to spend it all just now, but over time it will be useful.

Off the top of my head, there are a whole load of XBLA games that I like the look. Not to mention a few of the Xbox Originals and a lot of the Rock Band/Guitar Hero content. Could also download themes and gamer pics - something I would never pay to download, but if I have that many Points available then why not!

Also, used sensibly, then when MS starts releasing full games for download (like Burnout Paradise on PSN), then you'll have points left to do that.

I was thinking of getting MK Ultimate anyway or Geometry Wars 2 soon anyway, so guess I'll get one of them once the competition starts.

@ Penhalion: Nope, I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that once you've paid for the points your money is gone forever, so a cash alternative wouldn't be possible.

This has got to be the cheapest prize ever: virtual money that can only be spent on virtual goods that are owned by the prize giver who is pretending that it's really worth £4k.
  • Kyle #15 3 years ago

Is there even 4k's worth of content on Marketplace?
  • Britesparc Verified Creative, ITV #16 3 years ago

It's not bad, tho, is it? If someone gave me four grand's worth of MS points, I'd be pretty chuffed. Of course I'd rather have four grand of real money, but it's still a decent prize.

Having said that, not sure what I'd spend it on. Few games I wouldn't mind buying, I suppose, and I'd rent the odd film. But I'm trying to keep 7gb of space free at the mo so I can install Fable come Xmas...
  • CrunchinJelly #17 3 years ago

There's a free gamer picture on Marketplace which gains you entry to this. You can only download it if you have access to NXE, though.
  • brooza #18 3 years ago

MS points can be spent in the Zune marketplace too
  • moggsy #19 3 years ago

    @ lavalant

What makes you say that then?
  • symmetry #20 3 years ago

Well all these extra people downloading content plus all the downloads of NXE itself should really help the problems Live has been having recently :/
  • Luvbeers #21 3 years ago

    Child gambling... hmmmmm...
  • Rev.StuartCampbell #22 3 years ago

Even assuming there was half a million points of content on XBLA, how big a hard drive would you need to store it all?
  • paulf #23 3 years ago

46 prizes ? thats a bit tight isn't it ? surely it would be better to give everyone a 50/50 chance of getting their donwload for free rather than the 1/200k chance they'll have with this
  • andywilkie35 #24 3 years ago

I want to get Puzzle Quest and Portal so might do this just to enter.

Points would be useful just for Rock Band content! And if that Lips song has stuff to download later (think someone mentioned the Zune marketplace) then that'll be decent too
  • Colin8703 #25 3 years ago

    When's R-Type Dimensions out? That's what I'm waiting for.
  • BillyBrush #26 3 years ago

i've heard of two of those...

    chromeo...oh dear..
  • radlord #27 3 years ago

to Rev Stu Campbell - even assuming your laughably awful flat-top haircut isn't utterly ridiculous, why on earth would a man who looks like a squashed rat get his hair cut into such a comically dreadful style?
  • kangarootoo #28 3 years ago

"You do all realize that NXE is a gateway to full 360 game downloads via marketplace in a bid to combat the second hand market."

Well, if true, so what? DD is the future, so we had better get used to it.

    @Rev. Stuart Campbell

You don't have to store everything at once. A purchased item can be deleted and redownloaded whenever you fancy playing it.

All this prize is really saying is that you will have enough points to make XBLive DLC and Gold membership effectively free for the forseeable.

Which seems reasonable... except that you have to pay to enter :(
  • kinky_mong #29 3 years ago

Gives me as good a reason as any to download Portal: Still Alive this week.
  • Dodgymat #30 3 years ago

I recently "won" 3700 MS Points (£30) from the USA MSN Dream Car Challenge, only had to turn up once a day to earn 400 MSP. I could spend them on content I don't want or need just to have a chance of winning more, but I'd rather not.

Oh, the total amount of content on Marketplace, according to MSP Converter.com is 756,478 MS Points, or £6,500 in real money.
  • diz93 #31 3 years ago

^ So I won't be able to get everything on marketplace with the big prize? Forget it then.
  • Dodgymat #32 3 years ago

Well, three quarters of the content is EA themes and gamerpics for their wonderful array *cough* of sports titles and racing games...
  • ABXY #33 3 years ago

Is this the beginning of the end of the recession / credit crunch??!
  • bonker #34 3 years ago

"And if you're looking to join up with celebs and pwn them online, here's your choice of victims:"

Er, ok, so I'm old and stuff but WTF are those people???

"Is this the beginning of the end of the recession / credit crunch??! "

    Nooooo.

It's the end of the beginning ...
  • Jamiesan #36 3 years ago

    1. Anyone can download the Gamerpic, I don't have the XNE downloaded and yet can see "Xbox Live Play & Win" on the hueg list o' games on marketplace, as well as the new arrivals section.

    2. Ace Combat 6 has over 10 free Add-On DLC items for between 1-15mb each. No idea if free DLC will count. If not, RB/GH songs are 80-160 points each, got some that I was gonna buy tomorrow anyway, might as well wait an extra day or 2 till this opens.
  • Capn #37 3 years ago

I'm pretty sure 99% of XBL gamers lied about their age.
Chances of them 14 year old COD-ers getting permission from their parents is slim.
  • mechamonkey #38 3 years ago

I could spend 4k points on Rock Band content alone no problem :)
  • Ryze #39 3 years ago

    @lavalant

Full game downloads leading to 250Gb, 320Gb then 500Gb HDDs?

HD movies to download and keep eventually?

    If so, then GOOD!
  • mike86 #40 3 years ago

I don't get it... The rules say, "NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING." yet they also talk about spending Microsoft points to win :s What do we do?
  • JamieR #41 3 years ago

dam this was a lazy news post by eurogamer wish i read the offical rules before buying somthing also says you need a gold membership
