Wii to get new TV channel News

Nintendo is to launch a new television channel designed for viewing via the Wii.
That's according to The Times, which reports the channel will be titled Wiinoma. If your Wii is hooked up to the internet you'll be able to watch "family-oriented" content on demand, including cartoons, cookery shows and educational programmes. Brain Training-style quizzes are also promised.
The content will be produced exclusively for Nintendo by Dentsu, the biggest advertising agency in Japan. Most of it will be free, but the Times reckons Nintendo will use the Wii Points system "to generate some fee income".
Wiinoma is set to launch in Japan this spring. Nintendo is said to be "considering international expansion" which would mean it's available in 40 million homes by the end of the year. Or not. We'll keep you posted.

It's TV, but on your TV! Plus points for effort, minus points for complete and total redundency. Japanese TV absolutely overflows with exactly that sort of thing already, without the Wii acting as intermediary.
