Wii Sports Resort sells 1m in Europe

Europe, US, Japan all platinum.

Nintendo has revealed that Wii Sports Resort has sold over one million copies across Europe.

The game, which bundles the Wii MotionPlus accessory, has passed one million sales in North America and Japan as well.

Wii Sports Resort managed to climb back atop the UK All-Formats chart this week, proving that the sequel has staying power as well as a strong start.

Our Wii Sports Resort review, plus in-depth analysis of Wii MotionPlus' effect on each mini-game, can be found elsewhere on Eurogamer.

Are we going to get updates every time Wii Sports Resorts sells 500,000 more units? ;)
  • JahB #2 3 years ago

    see post above.

we know that nintendo's successfully selling mini-game collections, do we really need these updates?

Ooh, I can't wait till they sell 1.5m!

Well, 1 million in every territory is worthy of news I reckon.

But in terms of tracking value, I think it's most important just to know how many WM+ controllers are out there versus the total amount of Wiis sold. That would give an indication of the attachment rate (hi hi) of this add-on, which is relevant in terms of supporting it with games.

@Darren - its not like we got these reports when halo 3 was selling well was it?

    oh wait...
  • Burkey123 #6 3 years ago

In fairness Darren, 1 million units in each region is pretty big news.
    Well done WSR.

Not as through there is going to be a steep learning curve with this game. More of the same, more money printed.

It's a bit sad that this is news and that this is the best sellnig game. I'm not an extreme gamer, but I fully accept that 80% of the world's population is pretty fucking thick, why do I care what they buy?
  • byakuya83 #9 3 years ago

Hantheman - you seem to care enough to make bigoted comments on the gaming choices of what you refer to as idiots! It's newsworthy whether you're a hardcore gamer that visits internet discussion boards to read about the success of Wii or you're one of the casual gamers that's at home playing their Wii, blissfully unaware of such discussions!

I wonder if, say, film discussion forums feature the same levels of anger and idiocy as game forums like this, with comedy fans attacking horror fans attacking drama fans and so on?

This is where having the biggest marketshare based on your own 1st party property pays big time. As the saying goes, people buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games and when you have a game like Wii Sports, you can only expect it to sell. It should sell even better than Wii Fit which I still wonder why that thing sold as much as it has.

Golgo: No one is attacking genres, like FPS, RPG, or RTS. they are attacking different production values.

And yes, for example hardcore film fans hate Michael Bay for making casual "popcorn movies".

septimus:- loving that review, wii bowling...

We should be grateful the wii sports resort is partly decent, they could have released anything with the words wii sports on and sold a million.

Don't start counting yet, Christmas is still upon us...wait until you see those figures...
  • jack_klugman #15 3 years ago

Wii Sports Resort has fantastic production values and is full to the brim with Nintendo magic. Where's the love, people?
  • smelly #16 3 years ago

@septimus : You DO realise that ZP are JOKE reviews.. and not to be taken seriously dont you?

I bet you havent even played this, and are basing your knowledge of it purely on this comedy piece!

    Oh deary deary dear.
