Wii Sports Resort nearing 7m sold

While Wii Sports has done over 50m.

Wii Sports Resort has sold nearly seven million units since its launch earlier this year and the original Wii Sports has now topped 50 million sold, Nintendo has told investors.

In a supplementary note following its earnings report last week, the company said WSR had done 6.97 million units worldwide, while Wii Sports' 4.83 million sales in the last quarter have pushed the game up to 50.5 million since it launched in November 2006.

Elsewhere on the same system, Wii Fit is up to 22.5 million, Mario Kart Wii is at 18.4 million, Wii Play has done 24.4 million and Wii Fit Plus has stormed to 2.13 million in very little time at all.

DS games are also popular, would you believe, with six games making it onto the list of products that sold over a million units in the company's most recent financial quarter. Most successful was Pokémon Platinum, which now stands at 6.39 million sold, while Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver is at 2.27 million.

New Super Mario Bros. is up to 19.94 million, Mario Kart DS 16.1 million, Tomodachi Collection 1.45 million and Professor Layton and Pandora's Box is at 1.26 million. The latter does not include Japanese sales, since Layton is published by Level-5 in the region and licensed to Nintendo for distribution overseas.

There's some pretty sexy foreign currency transaction information in that PDF too, so make sure you take a look. Filth.

Yeah, I don't expect MW2 to beat that either.

I think it's daft to quote Wii Sports sales figures along side proper stand alone titles. They may as well say that they've sold over 40 million sensor bars too.

Wii Sports Resort is a wonderful game - thoroughly deserves big sales in my opinion.

put the CoD8 claims of "biggest selling game ever"

Perhaps they mean biggest release day sales? I'm not sure of where that quote comes from, but I think perhaps its that..? Credit to Nintendo for selling that many of those quite basic games. They seemed to have captured the old Atari type feeling of their product/games... way back in Pong days.

what donnie said is fairly true, Nintendo do tend to make the better games on their own consoles. I haven't bought a new wii game since MK. I m sure ill get that new Mario game for sure,Nintendo games are generally really good. Other companies efforts not so much.

"shame for everyone except nintendo that these are the ONLY games that sell on the WII and after its customers have exhausted these 2 or 3 titles "

Worth mentioning there are around 60 different games on Wii that have sold over a million..and there are more 3rd party million sellers on the Wii than there are on the PS3 .

    O_O
They are impressive. Good to see WSR doing so well. Cracking game.
I also agree with the previous comments about MW2. Not even counting Wii Sports, how is it going to out sell Wii Fit, NSMB and Mario Kart Wii? Tbh, I can see the NSMB Wii outselling MW2 overall. But MW2 will have the biggest launch figures I'd say.

The numbers for wii fit and mario kart are incredible! That's almost as many as ps3's sold worldwide isnt it?

Actually how many 360s have been sold?
