Wii Sports Resort is top of the pops

Potter falls off his stick.

Nintendo's Wii Sports Resort has taken the number one spot in this week's UK All-Formats Top 40, knocking Harry Potter into a cocked sorting hat.

Well, knocking it into second place anyway, even though sales were only down by four per cent according to data-gatherers Chart-Track.

And while Chart-Track hasn't any Wii Sports data to compare Resort's first-week sales to, because the original was bundled with the Wii, it does point out that week-one Wii hardware sales from 2006 are very similar to week-one Wii Sports Resort sales.

We can also kill another paragraph with the revelation that Resort has enjoyed the fourth-biggest first week of a Wii title ever, behind Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii and SEGA's evergreen-hill-zone Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 and Wii Fit both hold firm at third and fourth respectively, and there's not a lot of movement elsewhere in the top ten either.

Indeed, it's a bit of a quiet week for chart movement in general, with no massive dips or jumps besides the re-entry of Race Driver: GRID at 22.

See below for the whole top 40 with movements. And please do see below - it takes ages to move everything around in TextPad every Monday.

Wii Sports Resort is sooo much better than I thought it would be. It's just a shame they didn't update boxing, tennis and baseball.

    Frisby Golf ROCKS!

Got to wonder about Tennis. There are some courts on the island (you can fly over them in the plane). The (i) symbol says something about someone forgetting the balls so you can't play. Something which will get included later somehow?

I actually found Wii sports resort abit rubbish, not as good as I hoped, which is a real shame. Archery was good though. It isn't something that will make me go back to turning the wii on regularly.

Where's the Potter review by the way? I wouldn't expect it to be great, but haven't the HP games flirted with being decent in the past?

EA have to happy with how their Wii games are selling. 3 EA Wii games in the Top 10 Individual format charts.
Just goes to show you can compete with Nintendo if you put the effort and advertising in.

I'm enjoying Wii Sports Resort but I feel it's lacking in some places. Firstly, the Motion Plus isn't THAT great, let's be honest. It just seems to speed up the movement of your on-screen item to almost 1:1 ratio. But in terms of adding extra movement, it's not that clear. Swordfighting is awesome, as is sky diving, and I'm enjoying Table Tennis even though it's a slightly updated version of regular Tennis.
However, too few of the sports use the Motion Plus in any major way. Surely thet could have done jet skis and wake-boarding with the regular wii-mote? Also, where's the fitness training mode from the first game? I'm going on holiday next week and I need to shed some pounds.

WSR is awesome. Archery is by far my favorite. Bowling seems to be a lot harder, which it needed to be, tabletennis Rocks and so does swordplay. And Golf is much much better than the original, and with 18 courses! The game rocks!

Can't wait to se swordplay and archery implementet in the next Zelda!

+ 1 to the love for Wii Sports Resort (apart from the unskippable ' this is how you set up the Motion Plus' video)
  • Darren #11 3 years ago

I bet Wii Sports Resort stays in the top spot right up to Christmas... it's easy to see it happening given the amount of advertising the game has been getting.
  • viper_h #12 3 years ago

Ugh, only enjoyed the swordfighting and archery minigames. Not much of a game to be honest.

Why don't you do it in Excel then use 'Paste Special' so it doesn't paste in the formatting, just the tabs?

I'm a big fan of 'Paste Special'. Does it work in TextPad?

I've never watched it, it's just an option in the top right hand corner of the screen, very odd.

Belter of a game anyhow, lots of high quality content and loads of tasks to complete. Can't decide between archery, sword fighting, flying or table tennis at the moment, all great.

If someone has played wsr and honestly didnt like it, there is no reason to give negative karma. Opinions vary. Engage each other rather than dismiss outright something you dont agree with. /end rant.
