Wii PES 2010 patched on release

Brought up-to-date with real-world data.

Konami has alerted us to an upcoming and free bout of DLC for the Wii version of Pro Evolution Soccer 2010.

Simply, the update brings all player stats and data in-line with the real world. So, imagine a crazy universe where Robin Van Persie had been injured during international duty - if that was the case the game would reflect it. You might even find he was out of the Arsenal squad for six weeks! Just imagine.

We expect Konami will issue a few of these data refreshers as the season goes on.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 is out on Wii this Friday, and we'll be discussing its pros and cons in a separate review. Maybe on Wii the match between Konami's and EA's game of football isn't so one-sided.

Oi, don't rub it in, Purchese. Bloody pointless friendlies, injuries in November... *grumbles*

I thought I had YOU on ignore, lord...? :?

Whatever, this emo grudge thing you have going is a tad childish if you ask me! How old are you anyway... 12?

On topic... how does this feature work exactly in a game that isn't completely licensed but uses made-up teams and players? Are the changes reflected in those teams too even though the players don't have the same names? Or does it only apply to the licensed teams?

Hopefully the motion control option can be implemented with the HD versions next season...Pro Evo works with them pretty well on the Wii

Why is the Wii version delayed like that?

Anyway, the last few years the Wii version beat the other versions of PES by a fair margin on Metacritic and I don't expect that to change much now.
  • Malek86 #7 2 years ago

@KDR: well, that was partly helped by the fact that the last few years' HD versions kinda sucked.

Why is the Wii version delayed like that?

On the plus side, at least it's only 3-4 weeks later than the HD releases, as opposed to 5-odd months like it had been previously.

@Darren: Are you new to PES? The game has always had teams and players based on real life teams and players. Unlicenced teams just have their names changed but the player names are accurate except in special cases like the Netherlands national team.

Back in the N64 days it wasn't licensed.
  • varsas #12 2 years ago

In the n64 days it was also called ISS iirc.

Can we just not mention Darren's name? He seems to bask in the attention like a cat called "Bumtits" purring away at a bunch of children swearing.

Let's just deal with his central points - "I don't like Wii games" - in the time honoured way of enjoying them ourselves; and laughing at him as he attempts to juggle his insanely successful career, amazing online PS360 social circle with more achievements than any of his friends, and his wife and kids... all mixed in with spending those odd minutes laughing at Wiitards. I tells ya, he's a busy man! How does he find the time?!
  • Darren #14 2 years ago

@Stompy - I think some people on here, you included, need to seriously do a bit of growing up and accept that not everyone hurls unadulterated praise at a console just because they own it. As I've said many times before I speak my mind both for and against and have no allegiance or loyalty to any format just because I happen to own them.

So, no, I do not "hate" Wii games or Nintendo. Show me a post where I've even made such a ridiculous claim? If you ask me it's just all in your head because you have insecurity issues and are a little immature.

@Varsas - Yes, I'm well aware that PES has always used made-up names and players in place of the real ones and only uses some licenses, I actually said as much in my first comment! ;)

However, it would be odd seeing a player called, say, Savid Bedlam removed due to injury in the game because his realname counterpart David Beckham had been in reality. I know you can edit the names and teams but honestly short of downloading an edited options file who can really be bothered with all that when you've bought the game to play it? The lack of licenses, etc., is the reason I wouldn't buy the game on any system but the PS3 or PC this generation; I find it jarring. I know the Wii versions of PES are pretty good though as a friend always buys them and they're always good fun for multiplayer IMO.

By the way, I've been playing PES since its ISS days on the N64 and PS (great games they were!) and actually consider PES 2010 to be a more enjoyable game than FIFA 10 this year.

I found the 2008 version recently on the cheap so I had to buy it to sample how different the wii version is and I must say I think its the most fun I've had with a football game for a long time, I long since got jaded of the traditional control schemes. Looking forward to this version.

On the players, the vast majority in recent versions are licensed correctly so assuming that's still the case they're well worth updating.
  • varsas #17 2 years ago

@Darren: The Wii version of PES has the same licensing issues as those on the PS3 and PC yet you say it's a problem for you on the Wii and not the latter 2 systems? Why?

It's clear you didn't read my post properly because I said in my post that all the player names are accurate in PES and have been since the PS1 so the real life Beckham would affect the PES Beckham. The only exception to this has been the classic players and that Netherlands national team with the latter licence finally sorted out in recent versions afaik.

The vast majority of players in PES have correct names, it's just the teams that don't... Methinks Darren hasn't played one for a while and doesn't know what he's talking about...
