Wii Fit price for Europe

Due out 25th April, remember.

Nintendo has said that Wii Fit will retail for GBP 69.99 in the UK and EUR 89.99 in the rest of Europe. Which makes sense - why would they charge Europeans in pounds?

Anyway, Wii Fit is due out on 25th April, so now you have all the information you need to go and camp outside and find out if you're fat.

Wii Fit, of course, is Nintendo's first game for the unique balance board peripheral, which helps calculate your body mass index and plays an active role in all sorts of exercises.

The idea is to drill you into fitness and fun on a daily basis in much the same way that Brain Training sharpens your mental reflexes by having you do sums every morning on the loo.

For more on Wii Fit, check out our screenshot gallery and indeed our first impressions, and look out for a review nearer to release.

    That's a lot of money.
  • Artemis_Matsas #2 4 years ago

I hope that it is designed for "big" people because i'd probably break it after 5 minutes of "play".
  • Muddtallica #3 4 years ago

    Yikes...seventy quid? That's some investment...
  • viper_h #4 4 years ago

    Bollocks to that then.
  • JonFE #5 4 years ago

Fair price. 10€ cheaper than I expected :)
  • aldo_14 #6 4 years ago

I'd wait and see if there are other (decent) games for it first, methinks.
  • mkreku #7 4 years ago

I don't need a DS to do sums in the loo every morning.
  • X201 #8 4 years ago

    Er..?
    Do Amazon honour pre-order prices?

  • gingerlink #9 4 years ago

    @X201

They used to, but I don't think they do anymore sadly :(
  • X201 #10 4 years ago

    @gingerlink
    :(
ordered it last year @ £49.99
  • Dabs #11 4 years ago

Too much. Was expecting it to be £50, tops.
  • Totoriko #12 4 years ago

    Will it have multiplayer?
  • CallousB #13 4 years ago

Same price as Guitar Hero then.
I suppose that's fair considering it's higher quality tech...although £49 would have been a mass market price.

  • Ignatius_Cheese #14 4 years ago

    Could be a lot worse...
  • oceanmotion #15 4 years ago

Ouch. Bet it only costs them 10 or 20 quid to make.
  • DaM #16 4 years ago

How about shopto.net....£29.99....thought it was a bit generous.
Can't come a moment too soon!

£70 equates to a high BMI and a low IQ; I thought I got ripped off by Salter paying £30 for bathroom scales.
  • Darren #18 4 years ago

I don't see why people are complaining it's expensive at £70; it's the same price as Guitar Heroes with the guitar and that's reasonable for a game and peripheral. I'm sure Nintendo will release other games that use it and it's likely to prove more versatile for a wider range of games than a plastic guitar. You should be able to buy it online for less than £70 too.
  • Pac-man-ate-my-wife #19 4 years ago

Plus I bet there'll be a £230 Wii + Wii Fit out at the same time.

  • Bealsy #20 4 years ago

or you could buy some trainers and go for a fucking run.
  • HiddenAway #21 4 years ago

My cousin kept telling me that Wii fit would be £100+

    Thank goodness it's cheaper :p
  • Machetazo #22 4 years ago

I was hopeful it'd be around 60 quid, so can't really complain at paying a tenner over what I expected. The price seems fair, to me. In the pre-release material at wii.com, the creators explain that Nintendo were really mindful to keep the price as low as possible during development, and I think they've achieved that. My preference, though is with Mario Kart. Will probably get this after that.
  • Zoro #23 4 years ago

Will they point a gun at you while you buy it?
  • Dafridge #24 4 years ago

    @ Darren
People are complaining because a) they are stupid b) how many games were released that you could use the guitar hero peripheral for after you bought guitar hero?

    @Bealsy
I bet you were on message threads saying the same thing about Guitar hero when it came out.
something like: Buy a real guitar and go get a fucking life.

I have some trainers and they can't do what the balance board can do. So I politely advise you to go buy some trainers and go for a fucking run while I enjoy reading the normal messages on this thread.

PS I hate Nintendo's new go for the casual gamer approach and this IS overpriced cos the Guitar Hero pack was also overpriced and don't get me started on the rock band price point!
  • Pac-man-ate-my-wife #25 4 years ago

    @ Bealsy

Aye, you could. But then so could the all the people who contribute the £1bn industry that is gym memberships.

At the end of the day for most of the year this country is pissing it down with rain so the chance to have a bit of fun, get off the sofa yet not wet/cold/pnuemonia is quite appealing to a lot of people.
  • gamingdave #26 4 years ago

When is Family Ski coming out over here?!?!?

unfortunately, I suspect it will be delayed untill next winter.
  • Bealsy #27 4 years ago

    @ Dafridge

No because Guitar Hero is different. If you're a pleb who can't play/afford a proper guitar you can get guitar hero and it's fun. This is just a "what haven't we done yet" title, and it doesn't appear to include much of the aforementioned fun. I'd rather buy a Davina McCall fitness DVD and some Tesco scales. If I was fat and didn't do things to keep myself in shape in the first place.

What next? Wii Smoothie Maker? Wii Fake Marriage?
  • Pac-man-ate-my-wife #28 4 years ago

  • Fitzmogwai #29 4 years ago

    @ Bealsy

You can buy a guitar for £50 these days. Then learn to play it for free. Cheaper than Guitar Hero. And (arguably) more fun too. So what's stopping all the "plebs" from rushing out and forming punk bands?
  • Pac-man-ate-my-wife #30 4 years ago

    @ headbog and Bealsy

The games obviously not designed for you so why are you bothering? The videos show that there's a bunch of games and exercises available in the package, it looks like it's good for the family and the previews have been positive.

Obviously it's not Halo or Bioshock, but it's not trying to be.

God forbid that people find something like this fun.
  • Bealsy #31 4 years ago

I think the point is being missed. Guitar Hero - play a rock god... Wii Fit.... erm... get fit? I just think its a pointless title, but that's my opinion. I have guitar hero because I couldn't play a real one if my life depended on it, but with beers and mates its a good laugh. I just fail to see the point of a keep fit computer game. It's just convincing the lazy masses they can stay in front of their tv for even longer without feeling guilty
  • SlackMaster #32 4 years ago

It's not gonna sell at that price... £69, is asking too much for a bit of plastic with a pressure sensor and a game. Is this more than Guitar Hero and the Wireless guitar?
  • BIGSHAO #33 4 years ago

I lost 70lbs playing Wii Sports!!!!! Now I can lose £70 playing Wii Fit!!!!!!!
  • Dafridge #34 4 years ago

    @Bealsy
So if you can't afford a real guitar you are a pleb?

Dude seriously, being anti Nintendo is one thing but just being offensive for the sake of it is another!

I don't think this is a what haven't we done yet title I think its more of a
step 1: What peripheral can we do next that will be versatile fun and engaging. That you don't just use your hands to control?
step 2: How can we creat software to best use this new peripheral.

If there is even one developer out there thinking about making skateboard or surfing games or other ways to use this peripheral I would say its a success.

You should go check out the video of Wii Fit then you'd see its not just a weight loss aid. It actually does look fun.
  • Bealsy #35 4 years ago

I agree in that sense the "other" parts of the development look fun, I just find it ironic that they'd make a keep fit game for a console *snigger*
  • Kyle #36 4 years ago

I'm not sure the kind of audience they're aiming for with this will shell out seventy quid... Gonna be a tough sell, I'd like to see my boss try and peddle that to the customers.
  • BIGSHAO #37 4 years ago

After a hard day at work, (where I sit at my desk and post responses in forums all day) the last thing I want is to go home and get sweaty in front of my T.V. I play games to relax, the same way I watch a movie, listen to music or read a book.
  • Dafridge #38 4 years ago

Sometimes I like to watch movies that get me sweaty in front of the tv!

    Bring on Wii Fit
  • jonsaan #39 4 years ago

Expensive. Typical Nintendo. What do you reckon 80% profit, something like that?
  • stampax #40 4 years ago

Cant see it being a mass seller at that price. i'l buy it if at 40 quid.
  • gingerlink #41 4 years ago

ok, so the retail price is about the same as buying a game and a wiimote.

so it doesn't work out to be overly expensive, the game isn't a complete shambles like wii play was anyway...
  • Bumhug360 #42 4 years ago

    ]http://ko taku.com/356513/wii-fit-not-act...[/link]

Its not a fitness game. Sure some people will see an improvement like what happend with Wii sports but the only people it will have any effect on is the ones who find walking to the bathroom to take a dump a strenuous workout
  • agparrot #43 4 years ago

The main problem I see is that it will be £70 spent for something that comes out 4 days before GTA IV.

So at best, it'll cost £17.50 per day to play!
  • Muddtallica #44 4 years ago

headbog: My God, looking at those fitness DVDs actually saps my will to live. "Davina Macall High Energy Five"? "Dirty Dancing Official Dance Workout"? "Strictly Come Dancersize (THAT'S NOT A WORD)"? I think the one that makes me the most ill, though, is 'WAGs Workout", mostly because I read the blurb: WAGS WORKOUT is the must have accessory for all girls wanting to achieve the look and style of a WAG - and who knows, they may even bag themselves a footballer in the process!

Screw Wii Fit and getting into shape; it's already too late, as the end days are obviously here. Repent!
  • OrangeGoblin #45 4 years ago

I have it ordered for £35 from powerplaydirect.com. Hope it's honoured!
  • Nithron #46 4 years ago

Why are we still using the BMI when it's been proven to be bollocks?
  • bad09 #47 4 years ago

Ouch a lot of cash, my girl was interested in this one but at that cost I don't think she'll get it (she'll probably wait for me to buy it as a present!)
  • Sid-Nice #48 4 years ago

Wii Fit has only managed to sell 1.5 million units in Japan; so I can't see it doing very well in Europe. Also I heard that the US version has been canned as the majority of Americans are over 300lb.
  • thiswaynow #49 4 years ago

Very good price I think... they'll sell millions in the UK alone.
  • Triggerhappytel #50 4 years ago

I can't help but the high price point will alienate a lot of the market they hope to aim for - i.e., the people who effectively got Wii Sports for free with the console.

If they were releasing it near Christmas the high price would probably be something of a moot point, as a lot of people would buy it for presents.
  • megadaisy #51 4 years ago

I am really looking forward to this! 70 quid is about what it would cost me and the mrs to belong to a gym for 1 month so its well worth a punt and it looks a lot more fun. Top marks to Nintendo for trying out different things, yet again.

  • CaptainScarlet #52 4 years ago

I believe that Wii fit and the balance board are a great idea. I imagine it will sell very well in Europe and from what I've heard from friends and family will boost Nintendo's lead in the casual games market. I don't have any problem with the market they are targeting and I don't have issue with attempting to encourage at least gentle exercise from a couch bound TV/video game generation. No this wont be a replacement for gym or keep fit fanatics but then I don't imagine that that is Nintendos target. My Wife has had her eye on this since the announcement and she goes to the gym 3 times a week. When it was first announced I told her to expect it to be between £60 and £70, that didn't put her off at all. I think you'll find it wont put others off much either.

    Roll on Wii fit,
    Roll on GTA IV,
Roll on Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo,
and roll on diversity and experimentation in the games industry!!!!

This place http://ww w.compareconsoleprices.co.uk/wi... is showing the cheapest price for Wii Fit is from Sendit.com who are taking preorders at £64.89 but I have also seen it at Tesco.com for £59.87, but you cant add it to your basket so I guess its unavailable for preorder yet - Keeping my eyes peeled!
