Wii Fit leaps to top of UK chart
Sporty top 40 inside.
Wii Fit has used replenished stocks to leap to the top of the UK charts.
It beat off competition from LEGO Indiana Jones in two and Super Smash Bros. Brawl in three.
Top Spin 3 climbed slightly this week to take four, and finished just ahead of Battlefield: Bad Company at five.
The sporty theme continued below; Big Beach Sports at six, Wii Play at seven, Beijing Olympics at eight, and could-be-sporty Kung Fu Panda at nine.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympics rounded off the list at 10.
The only new entry this week is Sports Party at 29 - a Wii outing from Ubisoft. WALL-E managed to break its way into the chart at 16 after its second week on sale.
Tumblers this week are The Bourne Conspiracy sliding from 10 to 21, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith down from 17 to 25, and Buzz! Quiz TV dropping from 22 to 31.

I'm half tempted, but have the inkling it'll end up in a cupboard after 2 months. And almost every other game available on Wii looks like dross.

Maybe I'll buy a pair of trainers ....
BTW more people need to buy FFVII Crisis Core, it's the best Square game in aeons!

Surely that's no different from 95% of all games?
Plus this one you'll probably make a profit from when you sell it on eBay!

Amazing the power of branding and good marketing. Didn't the Gamecube launch at £99 and no one bought it? It had a lot more good titles too.

Some of the mini games are fun as well (rhythm boxing and skiing are adictive but short lived)
Value for money? Maybe but it depends how long you want to use it for. I wanted to get toned for holiday and it worked perfectly well!! If there are options to skip the intros then it would be more useable. Hope this helps.

Thats like comparing an iphone to a lawn mower you plonker.
No the gamecube launched at £129 and stayed at that price for most of its life and almost nobody bought it, well similar sales figures as the original Xbox anyway (which finished at £49.99 at argos)

Comparing two competing videogames consoles is not equivalent to comparing a lawn mower with a mobile phone.

It's been doing well ever since the rather superb Wii version came out, unfortunately the chart people have NEVER acknowledged the Wii version!
And almost every other game available on Wii looks like dross.
Mario Kart? PES 2008? Mario Galaxy? Smash Bros.? Okami? Resident Evil 4? No More Heroes? Zack and Wiki? Metroid? Boom Blox? Lost Winds?

I did say almost.
Only Mario Galaxy I would consider a system seller. That's not really a great list, compared to say: Eternal Darkness, Pikmin, Super Mario Sunshine, RE4 etc etc.
This is the first Nintendo console I've skipped since the NES btw. Its biggest pull for me atm is a fitness program.. which is just weird...

Wii fit after the same market as a 360 Elite and Halo 3, what are you smoking?

They are both competing in the videogames market, and it's a fair comparison. Little Johnny wants a console for Christmas and the choice might well be between a Wii and a 360.
You could argue that Nintendo are trying for the 'mass market' with their Wii strategy that broadens the appeal of videogames. I would say, in fact, they are going for the casual/female segment exclusively and have performed a 'bait and switch' on traditional fans by releasing Mario and Zelda early in the machines life cycle. Microsoft have hitherto targeted the hardcore segment but their latest press conference reads like a 'we want some of the Wii's pie' manifesto.
A comparison between the two is perfectly legitimate, and you get a lot more tech with the 360 or PS3 for your money. How have Nintendo managed to keep demand and price high on it's product? Branding. Same way apple have operated for years with their ipods. Shiny, white, and no capital letters.

Intros do get shorter and pressing the A button does skip some of the text but as far as I know they cannot be skipped or omitted altogether.

Just google Wii Fit in stock, Wii - consoles is an excellent stock locator
