Wii Fit exercises chart dominance
Full UK Top 40 inside.
Wii Fit has barely broken a sweat to romp to the top of the UK All-Formats Top 40 in its first week on sale.
In the process it hurdled the previous Nintendo record set by Mario Kart just a few weeks ago to become the third fastest-selling game ever, netting around GBP 16.3 million.
Mario Kart Wii managed to hold onto second, though, although sales were down a significant 62 percent. And Mario & Sonic at the Olympics clung on at third to make it a Nintendo-dominated podium for the week.
Further down and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue took four, PES 2008 took five, and Call of Duty 4 climbed a little to six.
Then came SEGA Superstars Tennis at seven, Brain Training at eight, UEFA Euro 2008 at nine and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 at 10.
Big movers this week were WWE SmackDown vs Raw 2008 up from 34 to 21, while Condemned 2 tumbled down from 13 to 25, and Carnival Games plunged from 12 to 22.
Interestingly Halo 3 managed to bump its way back into the charts at 31, just below the other new entry this week, SingStar Summer Party.

Will try it out next week maybe, after a good sleep, if I can be bothered.
So lazy.

Actually it'll be a hell of a lot closer then you think, for example Amazon are selling Wii Fit quicker then GTA IV. Having said that I fully expect GTA's first week of sales to be higher then Wii Fit's, but Wii Fit to sell more copies over the coming months/years.
"As much as i appreciate wii fit (which i don't) How exactly is it considered a "game"?

I suppose it depends on how you define 'game'. If you play and have fun on a piece of software, plus Wii Fits' structure of getting the player to aim for certain targets and goals surely must make it a game, even if it it isn't a traditional one.

On the other hand, wii fit is a similar type of game to brain training and...well...

It will no doubt drop off next week because it's sold out, which also explains why Mario Kart dropped 62%, it's very hard to find now.
As for it not being a 'traditional' game, how isn't it? I started out on an Atari 2600 and these new 'casual' games are reminding me of that era more than ever, particuarly with regards to coming back day after day to beat my previous high score.

It has scores, it has success and failure..the better you are at an event the higher you score. It's a game.

I'm already fit but want to try this as it looks different and some of the features are interesting. If it's rubbish then at least I get a sturdy set of scales to weigh myself and check my BMI...

I managed to bag a Wii Fit on Friday and had so much interest from people at work and family who have NO clue what GTV IV is; this impact with the causal game will be key to its continueed success.

this chart just says nothing to me?! pointless
If we had numbers, especially crossplatform numbers then we could start a real war! Like sales numbers for COD4 on X360 vs PS3
has anyone got any idea what the numbers are?!

Sounds as much like school or having your cholesterol checked. Those have scores and goals, but I'm not sure they count as games for them.
Oh, and golf doesn't fit your definition...
