White DualShock 3 unlikely for UK

Sony has "no plans" to release it over here.

Sony has told Eurogamer there are no plans to release white DualShock 3 pads in the UK.

The platform holder speaks as Americans provide pictures of the controller in their great big shops, although SCEA has never confirmed the colour for the region.

Sony has offered white DualShock 3 pads across Japan for a while, however.

If there's any fire where there's this particular smoke, we expect E3 will be the place to see it. Join us from 2nd June for our tip-top coverage, including live reports from each of the platform holder conferences.

Don't forget that Sony don't think you need rumble anyway, so there's no need to buy a DualShock.

    Haha 360 ftw.

    From Eurogamer in 2006:

Sony's Phil Harrison says he has no regrets at all about not including rumble functionality in the PlayStation 3 SIXAXIS controller. But is he bothered about the overuse of capital letters?

"Not at all," he told Eurogamer's Rob Fahey recently, although to be fair he was talking about whether Sony has had any second thoughts about ditching rumble. "I think that the next generation interfaces that can be created built on SIXAXIS motion sensitivity give tremendous gameplay benefits that far outweigh a reactive vibration function.

"The vibration function is the game sending a single channel of feedback to the player - six axis of input puts the player in control in a much richer, deeper way. So, game design can go in much more interesting directions as a result of that than from receiving a single input from the game itself."

Anyway release the White PS3 first then this may be news
  • nicksan #5 3 years ago

I got a white DS3 from ebay before the DS3 had come out in the UK.

Did well really, since I got the better looking white pad, earlier and cheaper than a black DS3 costs in the UK.

Just import a Japanese one if you have to have white.

Personally I have a White JP PS3 and Dualshocks. They look a lot nicer than the black counterparts, actually. Don't know why they don't release the white system worldwide - do they think it sets them apart by having the only current-gen system that isn't white?
  • Uncle_Fishboy #7 3 years ago

as per the first comment - WHO THE FUCK CARES. IT'S A WHITE JOYPAD FOR FECKS SAKE
  • brooza #8 3 years ago

That's Sony speak for "it'll be out within the month"

    Who cares anyway?
  • JohnnyWashnGo #9 3 years ago

Thank god - what a waste of plastic.
White consoles and accessories look horribly cheap - especially white DS3s with black analogue sticks and buttons.

So what about the rest of Europe? Or did I accidentally go to ukgamer.net?
  • Moonprince #11 3 years ago

  • Buztafen #12 3 years ago

.....is this article from a parallel universe where sites like ebay and yesasia dont exist....or is there now a secret society who pay you a visit and forcefully bugger you if you use them?
  • Quint2020 #13 3 years ago

Sony in "Fuck you Europe" shock!
  • El-Dev #14 3 years ago

jaluuk, hahahaha you are what we call a knob.

My PS3 is black, most PS3s are black, my TV is black, my TV stand is black...why the hell would I want a white controller?

  • J_C_X #15 3 years ago

what??? Why do I own one? Where the hell did I get it?

is that really a surprise? the UK gets left out of everything

  • Andee #19 3 years ago

I was hoping they'd release the white pad here, as I wasn't too keen on having to import incase it goes wrong/breaks or whatever. I wish the white console would get a wider release though, that looks much nicer than the black one.
  • TheWretched #20 3 years ago

Ha, I imported one last year... looks so much better than the black ones :p
  • LukeFX #21 3 years ago

Just get one imported, I have one already, shit hot pads :-)

And how come the UK wont be getting a White one? What bullshit excuse can they think up now?
  • jaluuk #22 3 years ago

    @Moonprince @El-Dev @j,taurus

Just thought I'd get in there first! You've got to admit that Sony's handling of rumble on the PS3 has been abysmal. To make a big shout about how it's not neccessary then quietly introduce it does not equal a winning strategy.
  • onyxbox #23 3 years ago

I have a white DS3... but after much eating of Dorito's and gaming it is no longer the lovely pure white it once was :-/
  • Bilbo_bobbins #24 3 years ago

thank god, it's gross. Plus you can buy them from Japan if you want anyway.
  • TheVoice #25 3 years ago

Their loss. I imported one last year before the DS3s were even available here.
  • Zaltan #26 3 years ago

The only two games EVER where rumble has been good/helpful are Metal Gear Solid for PS1 and Table Tennis for Xbox 360. *Stick with SIXAXIS*
  • Mattattattatt #27 3 years ago

I imported mine before they were released here. If I get a second one, even a black one, I'd check import prices again... I think it was cheaper than the EU one is going for now.
  • zisssou #28 3 years ago

Go to Forbidden Planet and they sell them at the same price as a black one.
  • Ryze #29 3 years ago

    I want a silver one, but they're 40 fucking £s on eBay!

    /annoyed
  • chessboxer #30 3 years ago

£40 is the RRP for the DS3 and the 360's wireless controller. I bought a white and a silver DS3 as soon as they came out in Japan, both cost me under £35 incl postage.

    @ jaluuk

That statement was a smoke screen for the legal battle going on between Sony and Immersion regarding the use of Rumble tech. I'm pretty sure companies don't talk about ongoing legal cases, and that case didn't get settled until March 2007, just before the UK PS3 launch.
  • jaluuk #31 3 years ago

@chessboxer Indeed it was a smokescreen - but still a lousy thing for a games company to say. Equally I'm sure Krazy Ken's comment that he wanted people to think "I will work more hours to buy [a PS3]" was a smokescreen for something else, but that doesn't mean they're not clownboats.
  • oupe #32 3 years ago

Having a black and a white controller is very practical. You always know which one has the flat battery, which is your favourite and who is player two.
  • JDub #33 3 years ago

My friend picked up a couple of white ones on the week of release, on her way back from Japan. £50 for two! :)

Sony can kiss my shiny metal ass...
  • Ryze #34 3 years ago

    @oef!

Exactly. If I get a silver one, then I can be sure that I'm not grabbing the SIXAXISlol by accident when I'm turning the PS3 on.
