Wheelman demo, lots of DLC for PSN News

PlayStation 3 PSP News by Tom Bramwell

13 March, 2009

Sony has updated the PlayStation Store with a Wheelman demo, some more DLC for Street Fighter IV, Everybody's Golf, LittleBigPlanet and Buzz, and the digital download version of Patapon 2 for PSP.

The Wheelman demo is the same as the one released on Xbox Live last week, and Everybody's Golf benefits from the Sackboy costume mentioned yesterday, although at GBP 0.79 / EUR 0.99.

Street Fighter IV gets the Shoryuken Pack at GBP 3.19 / EUR 3.99, featuring alternative costumes for Ryu, Ken, Dan, Akuma and Gouken; LittleBigPlanet owners can download a free St. Patrick's Day outfit; and Buzz! fans get a GBP 6.29 / EUR 7.99 National Geographic Prehistoric quiz pack.

Patapon 2, meanwhile, goes for GBP 19.99 / EUR 29.99, although as with LocoRoco 2, PSP owners have the right to feel a bit miffed about that given that online retailers are flogging it for GBP 14.99. There is at least a free demo.

Also for PSP, there are a couple of EA oldies in the shape of Hi-Octane and Street Skater 2, both at GBP 3.99 / EUR 4.99.

Forgot PSN Thursday (again), must have been on too early yesterday. Christ almighty Sony, will you actually put something worthwhile on PSN this year? It was slim pickings when I was on there yesterday, the best I could find (that I didn't already own) was DD on PS1, Still a cracking game.

There in lies the problem with the direction we are heading with DD (especially with the rumoured UMDless PSP), RRP will no longer be the unrealistic price they WANT for games it will be the price they SET for games. With zero chance of a cheaper alternative new or used (which won't exist).

I fear the future....

(actually I don't I just won't buy - like these PSP rips on PSN now)

So true. They say they wanted to cut out the middleman (retail), to fight back second hand and ebay sales. But it's a monopoly we are heading for.

The US PS Store has new The Chronicles of Riddick demo by the way as I left my PS3 downloading it overnight but have not yet had the chance to try it. There's also some nice *free* MLB 09: The Show themes (excellent game by the way if you like baseball).

I'll have to try the US store for the Riddick demo. I went there last night for the Red Baron demo, but couldn't find it anywhere.

@bad09 I'm with on the concern for DD and the retail prices. I have a self imposed rule of not spending anything above £15 on PSN. I'd rather buy it from an on-line retailer as otherwise I'm endorsing the premium pricing.

Well, if Patapon 2 is 1.6GB like Loco Roco 2, then I think I'd rather have the UMD anyway ...

on the flip side, there is the argument the the prices are as high as they are because these companies have to continue to maintain good relations with brink and mortar retail. it won't be good for business if you out price your partners with a more convenient distribution model for the consumer. the companies have to ride this one carefully i think so paying more for immediacy is the DD model for today. if it was the only model maybe it'd be different... time will.

@rogermellie - The Red Baron Arcade demo is definitely there now as I downloaded that too. It's not where you expect it to be though, i.e. alongside the full version, it's actually in the middle of all the new releases of which there are a lot this week.

I'm not that concerned with DD as I think the market will decide. If the price is too high, people just wont buy it. Esp in this climate.

Therefore I'm hoping for a new era of common sense. Well hoping anyway.
