Weekly Demos Roundup
Frontlines, Turok, Conflict.
On Friday, I cut some ham too close to the edge of the table and the plate flipped over and landed on my lap then tumbled onto the floor. That's not my best story, but I thought it was more interesting than the new demo line-up this week.
Because the best of that looks like Frontlines: Fuel of War on Xbox Live. Mind you, this is the multiplayer sampler, which is arguably the most enticing part of the futuristic war game. It lets you fight it out in 32-player battles in tanks and dozens of other vehicles, which sounds quite fun.
More fun than trawling through Turok or Conflict: Denied Ops demos on PS3, unfortunately. The dinosaur adventure missed the mark with a Eurogamer 6/10, and early reports suggest Conflict: Denied Ops will be an acquired taste. Still, both are here to try. And try you most certainly should before you fork out for either.
Even the US PlayStation Store has little else to offer, after a multiplayer demo for Lost Planet was pulled down along with the servers because you lot reported not being able to connect to game lobbies, which sort of ruins the whole online dream. These will be up again as soon as it is all fixed, which might happily coincide with the demo being offered to us Europeans.
The very same Europeans that missed out on a pair of PSP demos, although you can lie about where you live and download them from the US PC Store. (No? Try deleting the cookie.) Available are Puzzle Guzzle and Harvey Birdman Attorney At Law - with the latter unlikely to ever wash up on our shores.
Elsewhere desktop defenders can try Penumbra sequel Black Plague. The original was an interesting adventure with some fancy solutions, so we'd recommend giving this a look if that sounds like your thing. You might also like to try new Agatha Christie mystery Evil Under The Sun.
Or you will have to settle with a better late than never demo for The Club. High score lovers this way.
