    OK, we all know the Wii contains a pathetic graphics engine but FFS! This is getting ridiculous now, WTF is that supposed to be? It looks like a very poor PS1 game from the mid 90's. Yes I know smelly and the rest of the Wii apologists will say "but teh gameplay is teh good innit" but these screenshots are a joke (not a funny one either)

    Oh wait, it must be because the DS has been out for much longer and has been a continuous success in every way, despite desperate little mudstains like yourself bawling hard enough about GRFX11 to power a small town. You've already realized your irrelevance there a while ago. ;)

    I guess that time will come for the Wii as well, when the kids tire themselves out. No worries there. :)

    What about the PSP? I even mentioned it. The PSP is the real nextgen of portables, it has the GFX!

    You're working on assumptions, kiddo. I was only disappointed because if I'd ever wanted to play the extra stuff, I'd have to see the RE4 I knew and loved all cut up, and I'm not lying here. But if my comment annoyed one of the sony fanbots who cried so hard about Nintendo getting all the RE's, then that's great! (Oooh see the irony in that post? Haha!)

    So, if you can tell from the post, that was about shoehorning an existing game into a platform it didn't quite fit on, instead of building one for that platform from the ground up. We see downport issues like that all the time, it's especially bad when you already know the game. Though I have a feeling you're not going to admit this fact.

    On the other hand I must humbly admit, like you might have noticed, I also enjoyed showing that link to any playstation generation kids who actually believed the game was an exact port, while they could have just said "hey, it still plays the same!" which then would have ended the argument. So you see, I understand you better than you think. ;)


    So, back to the issue at hand (saved by the bell greg? Not today!), like I said, it'll be the DS all over again. The whining of it not being as powerful as the PSP just died down under the overwhelming force of it just being a great platform with great hardware features and a library that eventually grew to wondrous proportions, and this time it'll be no different. Now get off my lawn.


    Oh and Supine, I didn't see you anymore after that other thread where I called you on getting really wound up over people getting wound up over stuff on the internet. Oh well!

    They've gone for a cartoony style.. and they've acheived it.

    Not every game has to be super realistic grey fests you know :-)

    Unique control system, loyal fanbase (guess why? Nintendo games. No other platform has them whether you like them or not, simple as that). Hmm, reminds me of another console. ;)

    The 4 grayscale gameboy screen was horrible compared to other handhelds out at the same time. It didn't control any differently, but it had the games, and used less batteries while lasting longer. And it crushed the competition to bits.
    The Wii also has that ease of use regardless of graphics and controls, it's tiny in size and uses less power (these things matter to some), and most importantly it has the Nintendo games. Sure it wouldn't sell as well as it does now without the controls, but... if you think nobody would buy it you're just silly.

    Definitely does at the moment, but there's a lot of stuff coming out in the next months, so that situation is slowly changing. Zack and Wiki looks to me, as an old PC gamer, like one of the most interesting titles across all platforms this winter, and that's not even first-party.

    We Love Golf looks indeed utterly horrible though.

    so far, yes, of course. what was people's motivation to buy a megadrive when they already had a master system? what was their reason to buy a playstation when they already have a 16 bit console? people are attracted to pretty things and polygons. of course graphics isn't the ONLY reason but it's probably the biggest, although the trend can be turned on its head as exampled first by the DS - which outsells the PSP mainly because it's unique control system allows for new types of games and ways of interacting with them and then the wii. yes it also has marginally more games and generally the games are aimed better at what portables are good for - quick gaming sessions on the train or whatever - but i do strongly believe if the DS didn't have the touch screen it wouldn't have been nearly as competitive compared to the PSP, which has obviously better looking games.

    the wii has continued nintendo's aim of adding another path for game technology. in the past it was ALWAYS about more processing power, more polygons, nicer looking games, but now we've gone pretty far with graphics and it's inevitable that companies like nintendo will look more into new ways of interacting with games and possibly new ways of viewing games, with VR and such. the way games are headed, and have always headed, is towards total immersion, and that can't happen simply with a joypad and tv screen no matter how amazingly pretty your engine is. the player is still just watching a tv and using a joypad in an unrealistic, un-natural way. the future is total immersion and you'll see in the years to come that other factors besides graphics will come into play more.

    however, because trends are deviating from just graphics, it's no excuse to sell sub-last-gen-looking games on current gen hardware. consumers expect games to be at the edge of what the consoles can do - and this game certainly doesn't do that.

    You're still ignoring the Gameboy. Do you know how painful it was to look at that tiny monochrome screen after having experienced some of the full-colour graphics on the Gamegear or Atari Lynx?

    But in the end, it didn't matter crap. The GB didn't have any kind of advanced control scheme (it had less buttons than the Lynx in fact) yet we all know what happened. It had the convenience, it had the Nintendo software support. Sure it had little graphical power compared to the competition, yet with some good pixel art (Link's Awakening, Mario Land 2 and 3, etc) nobody even cared, after getting past the lack of colour and the low resolution.

    The Wii simply has a combination of a lot of things. If it was just the motion control, don't you think the PS3 would be doing just a bit better?

    I mostly see anti-Wii people as elitists who cannot stomach the fact that one company is completely ignoring what they think is most important in games (namely graphical power), yet can still be successful. Oh my god it's an outrage!

    And it's the same for me (and many other people it seems) with the wii.

    Yes it doesnt have the hi-def wanky graphics of the other 2 (which i'm becomming more interested in now i have a hi-def tv myself!). But it has (or will have) charms such as metroid 3, mario galaxy, smash bros, pikmin, mario kart, battilion wars, etc etc..

    Which the other two just wont get games like that, preferring instead to just rely on fps and hard core racing games.

    Yes i know that those games mentioned arent everyones cup of tea, but then again same can be said for the type of games the 360 is getting (for example), everyone has their own tastes...

    Sure the games are few and far between, but if you have the best platformer (or fps, or beat-em-up, or kart game), why do you need anything else?

    Besides we all know the 3rd parties are jumping in now, so even the "no-games" argument will disappear very soon.

    the reason the gameboy won over the game gear is that the latter was too big, used 8 or 10 batteries which was ridiculous, especially since most people didn't use battery chargers then. it would eat through the batteries in about 2 or 3 hours whereas the gameboy which went 8+ hours on just 2 AAs. and it wasn't just the hardware problems that made the game gear a failure, it was that nintendo simply had too many good gameboy games and the gameboy itself was already immensely popular. the game gear never really became cool.

    erm, i've been saying that all along, as is quite obvious from my posts.

    but this game still looks shit. they could have done an amazing job implimenting the wiimote but the graphics are still laughably bad, even for a wii game, and that's because the developer has cut a lot of corners and hasn't bothered its ass making a graphically immersive game.

    sorry but some upskirt shots aren't going to persuade me otherwise

    Do the graphics really matter? If this plays a good game of golf with the wiimotes then it will be an essential party game. Recently played Everybody's Golf on the PS2 round a mates and it was still quality, and I don't think the graphics were very different.

    People have always been far too hung up on graphics imo. It's got to be about the gameplay.

    Majority of people moaning on this thread are 360 owners.. They wont agree with you... Mainly because they're used to playing genericly boring crap with pretty pixels (oh.. and gta)..

    To a lot of "hardcore" gamers the graphics are the ONLY thing. To me i dont think they've been hugely important since we went from ps1 to dreamcast (and onwards). Unless we can make that kinda huge "gameplay changing" jump again (and no i dont mean hi-def) I fail to see the relevance of top notch graphics.

    As long as i can see what's going on and it looks like its supposed to - that's really all i care about.

    As far as graphical style goes, i'd much rather play a game like this full of bright primary colours than something "technically" brilliant but boringly full of greys and browns... I play games to escape...

    smelly, yuo nkow me. I'm a big Nintendo fan. I'm big on the whole gameplay over graphics thing. But this.... this is the worst looking game I've seen since that midway racing game cruisin' I thik it was called. Yeah it might be fun, after EG5 on the PS3 I actually have no doubt that this will be fun, but MY GOD is it ugly.

    It is hideously ugly, cartoon-y visuals have been executed with far more detail in zillions of other games. But I'm confident that with Camelot's track record (I lost many hours to the original Everybody's golf) We Love Golf will play an immensely enjoyable round of golf and I'm looking very much forward to playing it, even with its hideous warts ;)

    @Razz: Its got nothing to do with being a nintendo fan or not. I dont give a flying shit what hardware a game is on. Yes i'm a fan of nintendo games, but this isnt made by nintendo so that makes f-all difference.

    My point STILL remains that i dont see the problem with the graphics on this - apart from the fact they're bright and colourful.

    Certainly not enough for me to only be seeing 44 of the 60 comments on here (presuming the 360 fanboys i have on ignore are out in force)

    Get over it... If the game PLAYS well that's all i care about. I have a 360 and ps3 for graphics.. Well actually I dont have a 360 as it's STILL in *****ing repair (6th week now)
