Action adventure to shine alongside film.

Film tie-in alert: Warner's announced a Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters game will accompany the Green Lantern film next summer.

Double Helix Games (Front Mission Evolved, GI Joe) will make the PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 games while Griptonite handles the DS version.

An action adventure, Rise of the Manhunters gives you the Green Lantern power ring and asks you to save the universe. The game goes "beyond" the film and comic, apparently.

The rest of the press release concerns the Green Lantern film, which stars a washboard-stomached Ryan Reynolds as hero Hal Jordan.

It (the film) might be, and it (the game) almost certainly will be, but remember that Martin Campbell also directed another film from which sprang a rather excellent game, the remake of which is currently gracing the front page.

But probably both won't be great.

The power ring lets you do anything you want it to... except in the game where it will likely shoot plasma, freeze people, create a shield and function as a crappy gravity gun. And that's it.

It is so sad: Warner owns a good percentage of Rocksteady studios, and even have signed with them for future partnership, so I was really hoping to see them at work on Green Lantern.
We all know what they have done for Batman so we can have an idea of what marvellous game they could have made.

Rocksteady could indeed make a fantastic Green Lantern game, but not in one year. When the whole point is to coincide with the movie release date, foced deadlines in ensured, and little or no time for polish and gameplay revision.

Of course the game will be crap, like G I Joe.
