Warhammer Online gets release date

European pricing details inside.

EA has announced that its MMO contender, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, will launch on 18th September. That's just six weeks away.

North American, European and Oceanic (that's Asia, Australia and New Zealand) servers will all go live at the same time.

The regular edition of the game can be pre-ordered in Europe from 28th August, and will give early access to the live game, as well as exclusive in-game items. There's no word yet on how "early" this access will be.

One-month, three-month and six-month subscriptions will be available at EUR 12.99 (GBP 10.31), EUR 35.97 (GBP 28.55), and EUR 65.94 (GBP 52.34) respectively.

60-day prepaid game cards will cost EUR 29.99 (GBP 23.81). The game itself will have an RRP of EUR 49.99 (GBP 39.69) with a 30-day subscription included.

I just hope it isn't crap. And that I get enough time to play it... Restarted my WoW account a while ago, and have hardly had a chance to play it unfortunately.

Edit: I'm not implying that it's going to be crap, before anyone tells me off! I'm looking forward to it and am hoping it lives up to expectations.

Because of the AoC debacle and the fact that I haven't heard the nicest things about the WAR beta, I'll wait before preordering. I won't give in to the hype this time.
  • anomagnus #4 4 years ago

    @erinan

what have you heard about the beta, apart from unsubstantiated rumors from wow fanboys and NDA breakers

every preview, including this sites preview has done nothing but praise it

i understand of course you want to wait until a review, that only common sense, but the bad mouthing about this game has proven to be paper thin

anyway, just six weeks away, goddamn!
  • locus2k1 #5 4 years ago

man the "open beta" better hurry up, i need to check to see if my pc can handle this game, because if it cant i'll be cancelling my CE preorder :(
  • Erinan #6 4 years ago

The fact that they will only be two capitals at launch instead of the six initially planned and that they purely removed four classes from the game worries me. And also the fact that the requirements are higher than Aion's, despite the fact that WAR looks, well, a bit shite to be honest (I am pretty sure they are using the DAoC engine for the game, hence the requirements). The animations are looking pretty bad as well. And we haven't really seen much from the RvR side of the game yet, afaik.

I'm just saying that I got hyped up AoC only to stop playing after a few days. They'd better lift the NDA soon.
  • rudedudejude #7 4 years ago

    Subs are a bit much!
  • Gaol #8 4 years ago

Don't get your hopes up too high on this one :/
  • Benno #9 4 years ago

    looks a bit shit really
  • cw- #10 4 years ago

It all looks a bit pricey for me, might give it a try when there's some freeeeeeeeeee time on it.
  • Erinan #11 4 years ago

I think someone screwed up the Euro -> Pounds conversion.

Edit: actually, no. Jeez, the Euro is strong now.

A forty-pound note for the game disc and 30 days sub is a bit over the top cheeky, and over a tenner a month is also a bit cheeky. Someone is looking to snag a new Ferrari out of this launch, to hell with the business model which will undercut WAR's biggest rival thus pulling in more punters who may actually like it.
  • stevetuck #13 4 years ago

more exspensive monthly than wow? not looking good already for this one
  • berelain #14 4 years ago

Thats a hefty sub. Ouch. Mythic had better be putting a lot in to warrant those kind of sub fees.

I'm in the beta, but won't say anything, NDA and all, other than that my preorder for the collectors edition stands.. for the moment.
  • anomagnus #15 4 years ago

    sigh,

the new round of arguements, mixed with some of the old.

Anyway, WoW is the same price in euros as WAR.

Secondly, why the fuss over 6 cities. Having 6 cities was actually a bit of a worry for me, as it spread the pvp battle too thin. You can guarantee that as one city fell, the entire defending population would just abandon it, and hit the next city. I could actually see a variation of a rush tactic developing, that would utterly invalidate the game.

Now, don't get me wrong, i do want to eventually see all the other capitals, but i want rotating pairs of pvp capitals, to offer a bit of variety!

Secondly, they cut four classes, that leaves 20 left. I mean, in all fairness, you'd rather have 24 mixed strength classes than 20 strong ones? 20 classes is a hell of a lot of choice.

Finally, gaol, you've posted before the game is shite, claimed you can't elaborate because of the NDA. Now, fair play to you for not breaking the NDA, even though you don't like the game, but if it is that bad, why is it getting so many favorable previews

My big problem is that, what i am hearing from the supposed beta players doesnt match up with what i am hearing from professional game sites and magazines. Why the disconnect? Unless of course you're saying this site, and many others have been bribed.

anom speaks truth, at least someone looks at things objectivly here and isn't a rampant fanboi looking to 'bring it down' or 'hype it up' depending on what side your on..

Fact is this is good news for Warhammer fans, the game finally gets released.
  • spammage #17 4 years ago

The fact remains that in £ at least wow is cheaper. There would have to be a mass exodus of all my friends + guild mates from Wow for more than a month to convince me on this one......
  • ZuluHero #18 4 years ago

    open beta soon then? woo!
  • Thunderhead #19 4 years ago

Sub is just too much and has put me off. Shame really.
  • Kremlik Verified Co-Founder, Crash To Desktop #20 4 years ago

Thunder - that price was expected for over a year now £10 now seems to be the 'norm' prce for new MMOs now.. It's still not the most expenive MMO out there.

Plus don't expect the old MMOs not to increse their prices sooner or later, still it's only what 2 prints at a bar these days
  • spimmy #21 4 years ago

    hype

remember the good previews AOC had ?

hype remember how AOC was hyped as the next big thing look at it now

ive seen nda breaking screenshots of players ui and it looks to me a a copy of the wow ui only change is a dif skin
  • berelain #22 4 years ago

    @ Anon

Whilst I agree with your comments, remember that what journalists have been allowed to play is special, polished sections of the game running on different clients and servers to what the beta runs on (thats my understanding, anyway, might be wrong),whereas the people in the beta are playing *the whole game* and get to look at every aspect of it, not just what the devs are showing off this week.

That could account for some of the differences in outlook, though it does seem strange that reactions from beta testers vary so much to those of previews in magazines.
  • spimmy #23 4 years ago

The ui looks pretty much like the basic wow ui

if it wasnt for the fact the nda lol was still intact i would show you the ui dont belive the hype the game is more hyped than AOC and thats saying someing and how did that game end up ?
  • ZuluHero #24 4 years ago

    @berelain

Thats a bit of a strawman arguement isn't it?
  • Kremlik Verified Co-Founder, Crash To Desktop #25 4 years ago

@bere actally with the focus testing i very much dought the testers have had 'the whole game' yet, I think that'll happen during the 'not so open beta'.

and @ spim yea, hype killed AoC a bit as many players expected it to be exally as the hype claimed... With is 'WAR is WoW' anti-hype it'll probly work for it, as players may walk in expecting WoW and may find a lot they did expect from the game, it wont be for everyone but 'everyone' plays WoW (or sothing like it), Mythic may find the market with WAR in 'everyone else' :)
  • berelain #26 4 years ago

@ Zulu - huh? how so?

@ Krem - Actually the closed beta is pretty much out of focussed testing stage now.
  • spimmy #27 4 years ago

lol at week long open beta
  • hiddenranbir #28 4 years ago

    Expensive! Tut tut!
  • Hamflank #29 4 years ago

    @anomagnus

"what have you heard about the beta, apart from unsubstantiated rumors from wow fanboys and NDA breakers"

How exactly would one comment on the beta without breaking the NDA?
  • hula hoops #30 4 years ago

I don't see this game faring any better than AoC.

I thought AoC was gonna be good just before its launch, and when it turned out to be poo I said to myself not to subscribe to any MMO on release day.

And with £10+ sub ... what on earth are they thinking about?
  • ZuluHero #31 4 years ago

    @berelain

Well, if journo's are playing 'special builds' that show off WARs strengths then that’s the version Joe public will get to see when the game goes live. It won't matter to the majority of them what the closed beta players had to 'endure' nor what their opinions are of unfinished or work in progress content. I can't imagine that WAR will be released with only pockets of quality surrounded by huge expanses of bleak crapness.

Especially with the stakes being so high (a chance at a portion/pecentage of the WoW player base).

I know you are only speculating based on two different sides of the argument, but I don’t think that anyone can refute what WAR will offer to its paying player base until the actual game goes live, by which point none of what the closed beta players are saying will matter.

And if it does then they can say, “We told you so…”

Personally I think I would tend to believe what journalists are saying, as they will be seeing what is more indicative of the final product. Maybe "strawman" was the wrong term to use; your comment was far less subjective than that. My point is that you basically presented one point then disregarded it when you counted it with your second comment :)

I’m guessing from your standpoint you are the same as most of us, stuck between a rock and a hard place? Disgruntled closed beta testers are never the best source of reliable information though :p

  • berelain #32 4 years ago

@ Zulu - oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing the game or anything like that. Just saying that the journalists and beta testers have been seeing very different parts of the game so far, which is what I put down the difference in cited opinions to. Im not saying that we beta testers are having to endure something- far from it, I feel priviledged to be in the beta-! But I do have some reservations. Time will tell how those pan out, of course ^^

But like I said, my preorder still stands.

  • Erinan #33 4 years ago

Ever heard of Age of Conan ? :/
  • Thunderhead #34 4 years ago

I don't care if new MMO's are standard now at £10 a month. If they want to entice me away from WoW, or consider trying this alongside it they need a cheaper sub.
  • Maximilian #35 4 years ago

The two cities thing is a good idea for launch.

When I played WoW , the only city ever used was Ironforge - Everyone would gather there. Stormwind was pretty much deserted most of the time. I think people want one main city, one place where you look for groups etc.
  • Kremlik Verified Co-Founder, Crash To Desktop #36 4 years ago

For those being put off by the retail price play.com have at £30 and game have it at £26 still, so dispite the main publisher asking a lot for it the retailers are still offering it at a good price :)
  • ZuluHero #37 4 years ago

    @Erinan

yes, just cancelled my sub :p

Oh wait, you were being rhetorical right?
  • Orange #38 4 years ago

Was interested in this, but think I'll give it a miss.
  • makeamazing #39 4 years ago

too much money for what I would call early adoptor... I think i will leave it.. and by the time it becomes polished i probably wont bother.
  • Tyranix #40 4 years ago

I was kind of looking forward to this but I refuse to pay over £10 monthly for a game. A shame =(
  • zozart #41 4 years ago

Subs are a bit pricey. Bit of a stupid move for a game trying to eat into WoW's player base.
  • AOFanboi #42 4 years ago

    darkageofaltdorflol.

Yeah, as if I am not going to buy it when my LotRO sub expires. I am such a sucker for these things.
  • trixter©ú #43 4 years ago

haha - never trust anyone...look at all those perfect scores from so many sites for GTA IV, MGS IV. Don't get me wrong - the games were good but they weren't a 10/10. MGS IV is just the same in terms of gameplay (again you have like a few minutes of gameplay, a boss where you have to figure out the "one trick pony" and then a whackload of cut-scenes (which are cool but drawn out).

Anyway - AoC was also given the "thumbs up" during previews yet it turned out to "SUCK MORE THAN ANYTHING HAS SUCKED BEFORE"...okay it wasn't that bad except that it was released far too soon (we accept teething issues but we don't accept alpha versions ffs).

I'm looking forward to WAR but I'm not going to try it until after the first 3 months...sorry but it'll have to prove itself to quite a few before we get pulled in again by all of the hype.
  • actionfitz #44 4 years ago

    @erinan

The game looks to be ingreat shape (going by the previews). basically if you like or once liked WoWs style, love pvp - but disslike how blizzard try to juggle balance for pve / pvp... then you're in for a treat.
Visually it looks to me so far like a darker toned, graphically updated wow,
like they really went to allot of effort to stress how pvp focused the game is right off the bat.
Most of what i've said is already obvious anyway from the screesn / vids doing the rounds atm.

Im gonna give it a go, but i'll be getting the wow expac too...
shame really, Funcom could have tied up my cash for the forseeable future if they weren't such knobs.
    /sigh
