Warhammer Online at Leipzig

Elves to be exposed.

French publishing outfit GOA will be showing off a playable version of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning at the Leipzig Games Convention 2007.

Creative director Paul Barnett will also be lifting the veil on two races to be featured in the game, High Elves and Dark Elves.

It will finally give us a chance to go play one of the biggest massively-multiplayer online games in development, experiencing the much touted realm versus realm combat that developer EA Mythic is famous for.

We'll also see the Greenskin (Orc) and Dwarven starting zones for the first time ever, on top of plenty more never before seen bits and pieces.

Warhammer Online is expected to enter closed beta in the coming months, and sign-ups are still on-going on the official European site. Pop over there for more information, or into our gamepage for the latest trailers and screenshots.

    Umm... This has been known for ages, it's been on the WAR website for about 4 months.

    What a highly mysterious race they must be, that we have never seen in any other piece of fantasy narrative ever...

    Incidentally, there are not nearly enough Chaos Dwarfs in warhammer these days.

    Excited for Dark Elves. My purchase of the game hangs on whether they look awesome cool evil or ass.

    ??
    ..the closed beta has been going for some time already.
    How do I know? Because I'm in it..

    I've signed up for the beta test but all the community e-mails I get are in French :(

    I have no idea why this is, but knowing my luck I'll get into the beta but won't be able to understand the e-mail with instructions.

    Maybe you inadvertently select your country as 'France' in the signup form?
    You can go into your profile and modify that at any time.. =)

    I want to be playing this so bad. Come on Mythic let me in the beta...
  • rhinoxious #11 5 years ago

    I might try this, but only if its un-grindy, or at least fun to play and relatively complex during the first 10-50 hours of play.

    10/10 to developer EA Mythic for making Warhammer Online reality.

    /the less said about Climax Group for allowing Warhammer Online to go tits up a couple of years back, the better. Lets hope Games Workshop kicked some asses.

    EA have never developed a game that was better than a Blizzard game. DAoC was not better than WoW, and that was before Mythic was eaten by EA. Bearing that in mind, who is looking forward to this game, and why?
  • FunkyRenegade #14 5 years ago

    @Lov3

    Just because EA own Mythic doesn't mean that they are obliged to pump out crap.
    There'll still be a lot of people there who worked on DAoC, meaning they will have taken into account what mechanics needed to be imrpoves upon from that.
    I'm looking forward to the races/classes and the RvR system, if it lives up to the hype it could well take over from WoW.

    @Lov3
    There should be at least as many Warhammer fans out there as Warcraft fans, if not even more. That saids, though, from what I've seen Warhammer Online is looking more and more like WoW and not the original MMO it seemed to be when it was announced so many years ago.
    After 2 years of WoW I wouldn't mind something new and fresh so here's me crossing my fingers that WHO is substantially diffrent enough from WoW to warrant a jump.
  • Phall #16 5 years ago

    Lov3: DAoC may not be the better, no... let's say more successful game compared to WoW but its PvP ( in the form RvR ) is still superior compared to WoWs PvP options. At least for many of those who actually tried both games.

    If EA Mythic now takes a good portion of each game's good portion ( and that's what they already did... ) it may result in something really neat.

    The real fun will come at launch when ignorants will say that WAR has copied the look of WoW... when reality is the other way around, pre-MMO.

    I am looking forward to it even if I found DAoC boring and would have liked to be able to play a Bloodletter (demonic servant of Khorne) or one of the Slann (the high-tech aliens who created the gates at the poles that blew up, unleashing chaos).

    BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! KILL! KILL! KILL!

    Of course, they need to get Bolt Thrower to make the game music.
