Would you take a look at the assault Marines! Fan-dam-tastic!

Wow, that really looks incredible. I guess it's time for a new PC. Wanted to hold back until StarCraft II was released but I enjoyed the first one a lot and I think I will like this one as well.
  • Clive_Dunn #5 4 years ago

Am I the only person who's a bit dubious about screenshots ? Seems the finished game rarely lives up to them.
  • That_Happy_Cat #6 4 years ago

Shoosh disc... it looks pretty. It's a fake tabletop brought to life like never before ;)

    Hurrah.

Good thing is... it's going to be a very different game to STarcraft 2 so plenty of reasons to have both!
  • Hunam #7 4 years ago

I knew there was a god.
  • MrCarrot #8 4 years ago

/Also not seeing the awesomeness. Looks like the CoH engine with a lick of (shiny) paint.
  • Lateralaus #9 4 years ago

I still love dawn of war so I'll be getting this when it comes out regardless of how good it looks.
  • George-Roper #10 4 years ago

What all you naysayers need to realise is that its not only the way the CoH engine looks, its the way it animates .

I've never played such a fantastic RTS as CoH, for the whole package. It's simply the best out there.
  • ManicDrunkMonk #11 4 years ago

How many people still play 40k? I'm not belittling it, just don't hear much about it these days.
  • Hunam #12 4 years ago

I've never played tabletop 40K, but the universe is still interesting and Dawn of War and Squad Command are two games the are tailored to me gameplay wise. Love 'em.
  • JediMasterMalik #13 4 years ago

@MDM - Clearly quite a few as the latest expansion sold rather well.
  • Bi50N Verified Head of Global Communications, THQ #14 4 years ago

I can't wait for us to release more screens of this. And having seen it in motion...

Anyway, we have some hi-res version of those screens here if you want to look a little closer:

  • defdaz #15 4 years ago

Fingers crossed DoW 2 will allow us to use army points and wh40k deployment rules, and not the crappy RTS resource gathering shite the first version used - what a travesty that was. Sorry for moaning but I don't want a C&C clone with a wh40k skin, I want a computerised version of the actual game. I want to have a point limit and craft an army, and then field it against another players army in a game of tactics and cunning, not lets see who can rush and get the most command posts as possible and build (build!??!) the most units before rushing the opposition with overwhelming force (er, yes, I was crap at DoW! lol). Meh. :(

    /rant over (sorry)

    Looks bloody brilliant to me!

I really hope they deliver a decent single player campaign for this.
  • neuroniky #17 4 years ago

    This + Starcraft 2 = new PC.

    Awesome.
  • Gurrah #18 4 years ago

You are so going to be harassed for information about the races now that you've revealed which publisher you work for Bi50n :).

This is going to be sweet. Oh so very sweet.
  • Tabasco #20 4 years ago

The Orks in the 2nd pic look wrong to me, too shiney or something. That said everything else looks great, particularly the level of detail in the gameworld.
  • TitusCrow #21 4 years ago

huzzah! this looks cool! ill be getting it
  • SentientNr6 #22 4 years ago

    Must buy anyway.

I can understand that people are underwhelmed by the screenshots. But this is an RTS. And these screens are better than any other RTS I have seen so far.
  • RandomTerrain #23 4 years ago

This looks absolutely amazing.Brilliant. I really want it.
Please release for the PS3! I really can't be bothered to play games on the PC.
  • FaceOmeter #24 4 years ago

    i'm not seeing any tyranids...
  • urban #25 4 years ago

    aye. thats about right.
  • Tzetrik #26 4 years ago

Wow, check the teaser trailer on the site. WAAAGH!
  • Orange #27 4 years ago

First thing that springs to mind from those screenshots is how much more diverse infantry cover there is compared to DoW1. Burnt out vehicles, crates and sandbags are all visible and being used in the screenshots. I'd expect craters as well, although unlike DoW1 I assume they'll follow CoH in being created and deepened by explosions.

I'm expecting Eldar and Tyranids as at least the other two races, to be unveiled at some point. Space Elves are popular and they along with humans and Orks have fought against the Tyranids in large scale battles in 40K lore. Would make an interesting campaign, and all 4 are different in style so would make a good starting point for the multiplayer.
  • Jigglybean #28 4 years ago

I'm stuck to my seat with excitement. I love DoW and will be getting this without fail
  • rudedudejude #29 4 years ago

    Don't forget destructible environments baby!
  • Ikari2001 #30 4 years ago

i really enjoyed the original DoW when it came out all those years ago lol :P so will be looking forward to this one. I agree with you DefDaz, would love something a bit closer to the actual 40K game, but I thought the first DoW was really well done, and a bigger improved version of that would not be looked down at :D
  • SentientNr6 #31 4 years ago

    @defdaz

Interesting but unless in multiplayer I fear it won't be fun.

You'd need some pretty advanced AI or scripting. In the latter case the missions would become puzzles instead of a strategy game.
What you describe can be found in the skirmishes of Total:war and to be honest they are not that much fun. (in my humble opinion of course)
  • Razz #32 4 years ago

    OOOOOoooooooo! Looks noice.
  • JediMasterMalik #33 4 years ago

WTH is shot 8? Game looks freaking amazing though.
  • asphaltcowboy #34 4 years ago

Shot 8 is Warlords Evolved... for some reason 8)
  • MrTHQ2 #35 4 years ago

Just following on from what Bi5on said - and in reply to Clive Dunn - if anyone is doubting the screens then head over to EG.TV and check out the first footage of the game in motion!
  • bicky316 #36 4 years ago

I'm still waiting on a Dark Omen sequel!!

    Looks nice though :)
  • rudedudejude #37 4 years ago

Relic are gonna dominate RTS market with this - if starcraft 2 doesnt have cover etc it will simply get left behind
  • BiscuitBase #38 4 years ago

Looks pretty cool actually. Too bad my PC isn't even good enough to run the last game.
  • bitesize #39 4 years ago

yeah looks amazing graphics-wise, but i have to agree defdaz's rant. want a 'proper' wh40k game, with the proper wh40k rules from the tabletop version, not an adaptation of those rules that makes it like every other RTS around...
  • BobsUncle #40 4 years ago

"Fingers crossed DoW 2 will allow us to use army points and wh40k deployment rules,"

@DefDaz, that just wouldn't work. You'd have to be able to see the entire map before you start the game, which takes the exploration fun out of it, and the maps would be a lot smaller. IIRC, spotty geeks normally play 40K on a table or mat a few feet wide. Iif you put it in proportion to the size of the models in the game the maps would be tiny and very boring.

Also, the missions where you get a limited number of troops are just rubbish, and what you're suggesting is a full game of that. Probably most RTS'ers would hate that too. Building is fun! :-)

p.s. Probably no sign of Nids yet as they'd be keeping them secret until near release. Doubt we'll see much more than Orks and SM for a while. Looks fooking awesome though. Can't wait.
  • General_Zod #41 4 years ago

    @defdaz

I highly doubt Games Workshop would allow a company to make a conversion of 40K into a computer game. I dont think it would do much for the tabletop sales when you could just play the computer game instead. It just makes sense.
  • AHiFi #42 4 years ago

Why is there a screenshot of Warlords in there??
  • cnlfailure #43 4 years ago

Yes yes yes all very attractive. Where are the tyranids?
  • dripping_brain #44 4 years ago

  • Bluetribe #45 4 years ago

Looks like the same game with slightly updated graphics. I really wonder how much different the gameplay will be...
  • sharky_ob #46 4 years ago

I agree with defdaz too, but I don't think that would happen for 2 reasons:

    1. Dawn of War sold loads, and I don't think they'd risk changing the formula that much.
    2. That's what the tabletop game is for, and I don't think GW would want a computer game that basically supercedes it with a lazy option.

It's a shame, as I've always liked the idea of the tabletop game, but could never be bothered to paint an army.

Edit - Just saw General_Zod's comment!
