Warcraft movie still at script stage
Raimi may find something else to do first.
The script for the Warcraft film is still "in the outline/story/script phase," and it won't necessarily be director Sam Raimi's next project now he is no longer directing Spider-Man 4.
That's according to Warcraft's executive producer Robert Tapert, who told iF Magazine, "It's in development. We're in the outline/story/script phase... I don't want to speak on Sam's behalf, because the Spider-Man thing happened so recently."
Deadline broke the news last week that Raimi had pulled out of Spider-Man 4 because he didn't think he could make the summer 2011 release date, upon which Sony Pictures decided to reboot the franchise with a new cast and director.
But although he's now a free agent, and confirmed as the director of Warcraft, Tapert warned that Raimi may choose to do something else first.
"I think he's getting his feet under him and trying to decide. He might want to do a teeny, tiny small film, but I don't know what he wants to do. I know he had a great time doing Drag Me To Hell."
Deadline also connected Raimi with a film adaptation of The Given Day, a historical novel by Dennis Lehane, while rumours circulate about a new Evil Dead film.
The script for the Warcraft film is being written by Raimi's choice, Saving Private Ryan writer Robert Rodat.

I wonder what Sam Raimi would do with this script?

Where's Alanis Morissette when you (very infrequently) need her?
I don't know why they're faffing around with the script. All fantasy movies have the same plot, more or less. Just stick in references to Azeroth, Blood Elves, and Leeroy Jenkins, and Roberta's your auntie.
