War World on XBLA this Wednesday News

Xbox 360 News by Tom Bramwell

30 September, 2008

War World is this week's Xbox Live Arcade release, which means you will be able to download it - or a demo version - tomorrow, 1st October.

Developed by Third Wave Games and published by Ubisoft, War World is a third-person mech shooter with proper graphics and online multiplayer.

It's set to cost 800 Microsoft Points, which is GBP 6.80 or EUR 9.60 depending on which cratering economy you're currently supporting.

Players choose between 16 mechs, each with a special ability (e.g. speed, lasers, missiles), and there are 100 single-player levels to play through, with five difficulty levels, while the eight-player online action offers CTF, Bomb Assault, Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch.

If the name sounds familiar, that's because it's like "World War" backwards. Or possibly because you've heard of the PC version.

Check out the War World XBLA screenshot gallery to see if it looks like your sort of thing, and watch out for our review soon.

Looks impressive for an XBLA game, although not really my type of thing. Will give it a bash I'm sure

I remember this game on the PC. It's basically and run-and-gun third person shooter with robot skins.

"It's basically and run-and-gun third person shooter with robot skins." Sums it up.

Looks like a quality title. And devs should seriously respect the 800MSP price point for XBLA games. 1200 for a glorified side scrolling beat em up or platformer? Don't get me wrong, I love Castle Crashers and Bionic Commando, but you can go to Game or CEX and get a proper resale 360 game for that sort of money...

Indeed, as soon as I saw the screenshots for this, I thought: "Hmm, I must play some more MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf on BC."

Might be a good game but since the demo only allows me to play for 50 second I'll never know. The most stupidly restricted demo version I've ever seen.
