WAR server types, names announced

Any role-players out there?

With its official release looming - next Thursday at retail, pre-order head-starts on Sunday - Mythic and GOA have announced the types and names of the launch servers for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning.

There are four server types: Core, Open RVR, Roleplay, and Roleplay/Open RVR.

Core servers follow the standard game design, with unrestricted player-versus-player combat limited to Scenario maps and designated parts of the game world, and players can only fight each other when flagged for RVR (Realm-versus-Realm).

Open RVR servers offer permanent RVR flagging everywhere except the first-tier starting area. However, it's still the case that you can only fight players of the opposing realm.

Roleplay servers "are for those players who enjoy truly immersing themselves into the Warhammer lore by acting as their characters' personalities in-game. Players who opt to participate on a Role Playing server must agree to far more specific rules regarding naming, and it is suggested that players would adhere to WAR or high fantasy conduct and behaviour".

If you want to pick a server name in advance so you can get organised with your friends, you'll find a list of European servers at the GOA Warhammer Online site and of North American and Oceanic servers at Mythic's WAR site.

Check out our Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning review elsewhere on the site.

    Ooh, Roleplay/Open RvR. Bet those servers are rammed, more from the "I want to get away from idiots" than "I want to dress up like a wizard" point of view.

    weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

    RP/Open RVR for the win, so i dont see names like wagonwheel the orc warrior, or moomoo the taruen, or the fucking worst of the worst, ronaldmacdonald the fucking gnome

    Sadly the RP/Open RVR servers will also be full of people who claim to want to get away from the idiots but turn out to be the idiots. Same as WoW, there's always a rogue nameds "Lawlzor" who doesn't want to RP only wants to play on a more "mature" server.

    I would play these games more often if there weren't a/ idiots on the normal servers b/ scary people with no sense of humour/reality on the RP servers.

    /would like a server just for normal folk who aren't idiots or roleplayers...

    I wish there was a cast iron way of implementing an over 25's or over 30's server - I am sure the experience would be so much better
  • Skurmedel #7 3 years ago

    Yes because at 25 maturity begins, if it only were that easy.

    They should not limit who you can fight, it is getting a bit self-righteous. Kill everyone who annoys you? Social MMO evolution.

    All the 'Core' server names are terrible! They all begin with 'Karak' bar one, so you can expect everyone to play in Axe Bite Pass. Why make names are confusing and easy to mix up?!
    * Axe Bite Pass
    * Karag Dron
    * Karag Orrud
    * Karak Eight Peaks
    * Karak Ungor
    * Karak-Azgal
    * Karak-Hirn
    * Karak-Izor
    * Karak-Norn
    * Karak-Vlag
    * Karaz-a-Karak

    Spot on sneetch. I like playing on Roleplay Pvp or Open RVR servers for the more immersive experience, but it's really irritating when you see utter twunts roll up on there who claim to be doing it for the maturity but then behave like the very same pvp tards they say they're avoiding. Generally I find they're people who want to behave like they do on pvp servers but don't have the gameplay skills to handle them, so they come to the RP servers in search of an easier time.

    The end result is that most RPers give up, talenteds pvp players who like to RP then reroll on the normal pvp servers for the competition and you're left with a small shit server with no RP and a crap standard of pvp.

    open rvr is the same type of server as wow pvp servers it seems. yay for pvp hungry players.

    I play on a RP-PVP server on WoW and the general standard of player is really low compared to your average high pop pvp server - and the maturity levels are certainly no higher.

    Just be warned, YMMV.

    I dont see how Open RvR servers cater for anything other than low level killers, dont get me wrong I'm the biggest advocate of open world pvp but I dont see how this works.

    In two words: it doesn't.

    Most PvP minded folk are rolling Core.
