WAR is "finished", could ship now

Barnett's not finished yet.

More from Mythic Entertainment motor-mouth Paul Barnett at the Develop Online conference today: Warhammer Online; Age of Reckoning, is "finished", he told videogaming247.

"The game's finished," said Barnett, WAR's creative director. "It's just being polished and cooked."

"We're in a position now where every day we get to polish it, it polishes a little nicer. At some point you say, "That's polished enough now. See you later.'

"Is it in a shippable state? Yeah, we could ship it now," he said.

We played it recently, and would agree. WAR could be out as early as September.

In fairness to the MMO genre, they are never finished. Compare WOW to what is was upon release and it is a million miles away with 3 years of polish. Get it out of the door and let the judge decide.......

Considering alot of stuff was culled out of the game, it is not surprising now.

Spammage - looked what happened to Hellgate though when things are pushed out before they should be..

I beta tested WAR up until just a week-or-two ago. Considering how late in the day it got, it seemed to lack even the polish of the release MXO!

I'd be surprised if anyone but GW fans enjoyed it more than it's competitors. Conan, WOW, COH. All better IMO.

I disagree. Its great, but it still has some issues. Not game-breaking AoC issues, but issues nonetheless.

Every MMO has issues at launch. Remember the loot bug that required a log out to fix with WoW? It took blizzard 2 years to fix but it didn't stop the game being fun. If WAR is fun then players will forgive the minor gripes. If its not fun then its going to be relegated to sidelines (I'm looking at YOU Conan!)

Given that they are still polishing, and that I would think testing an MMO is a pretty long process from their test teams, then you factor in disc mastering and manufacture and distribution... I'm thinking late September rather than early. Anyone running a sweepstake?

Disc mastering times are irrelevant for a MMO launch. They can burn it a few weeks in advance. Whenever it happened, you will have a patch to download on day 1 as the team keeps working on the game anyway.

There are so many people who forget that WoW had many, many issues upon launch.

Yes, it was one of the best launches ever, but that game had some serious issues in its first year(s).

Of course, thats been grinded away by repetitive gameplay by WoW addicts in the subsequent years, to the stage where they dont remember its failings.

Open the beta up then Paul!

When he says 'finished' what does he mean?

Any game that ships with only 25% of the originally intended content is not 'finished' to me. What a retard.
  • Chaser #12 4 years ago

Its got about 90% of the original content...
  • Greychapter #13 4 years ago

I think by finished he means it has 100% of the content it will launch with. ;)
  • Sildur #14 4 years ago

Chaser - sorry, of course it does, it's just got 75% of the most important content missing. I got confused, sorry.
