WAR claims 750,000 people

Mythic MMO attendance climbing.

Mythic has said more than 750,000 people have registered accounts for Warhammer Online.

Actual subscription figures won't be known until people begin paying to play, when their 30-day free trial runs out. That should be around next weekend.

The bulk of those registering accounts seem to be heading to the Destruction faction, as early indications suggested.

But Mythic, as promised, is looking to rectify the unfair population imbalance. Starting today, 13 servers will apply 20 per cent bonuses to Order characters gaining both experience and renown.

A list of those servers can be found on the European WAR site.

Warhammer Online launched for PC on 18th September, and earned 8/10 from Eurogamer MMO.

Head over to our Warhammer Online review to find out why. Alternatively, head to our Warhammer Online gamepage for a series of guides on how to get started.

Will increase to 1 million by the end of the year.

    WAR is a winner.

Loving WAR - especially loving playing RvR - adds a whole other dimension which beats my WoW experiences - I can't see me going back to WoW again after this. I did enjoy that game a lot, but there's something about Warhammer which means I'll stick with it over Blizzards epic :D
  • Gaol #10 3 years ago

"Im having a great time still, Gaol, Id like you to put your money where your mouth is, wanna bet £50 that that isnt the case and that you know a big diddly squat about fuck all. "

Tell you what, I'll bet you £50 that there are at least 10 better games to play this Christmas than this creaky repetitive lagfest.
  • Rizo #11 3 years ago

I wonder if they will tell us how many resubs they have?
  • Rirekon #12 3 years ago

Good on them, it's a solid game and deserves to do well.
  • makeamazing #13 3 years ago

I also think this will continue to grow in numbers, the amount of favourable comments is much higher than the odd "its crap" comment. That is a big indication of how well a game will do, and the more people that play, drag other MMO players into it.
  • Fleisch #14 3 years ago

its a great game but they need to sort the lag out.
  • magicpanda #15 3 years ago

Early days but everything points to this being a keeper.

Superb large scale mulitplayer brawls in some damn cool places.
  • knightmt #16 3 years ago

Ha ha I might agree with Gaol second bet, though horses for courses!
"In my day" MMO was SSA sad, single player, alone.
I'll give it did look awesome though.
  • Fleisch #17 3 years ago

lag sorted! just installed buffthrottle addon, brilliant!

dunno why they couldnt do this themselves, but its all working and so much better for it!
  • swills #18 3 years ago

Nice timing on this article, reminded me to cancel my subscription. 749,999...
  • UncleLou #19 3 years ago

    Prediction time!

Gaol will appear any minute and spout bile and nonsense.

    Oh.
  • Drone #20 3 years ago

    Prediction time!

Gaol will post negative comments about every WAR news article until December.......and beyond.

    Change the record pal!
  • Gaol #21 3 years ago

Rubbish, I've hardly been near the WAR articles or threads since the review, but this positive spin needs a dose of reality.

Incidentally, I received an e-mail from GOA on the 6th October with the subject line 'Registration confirmation'. In the body of the email was a short note that my 'World Shaper' code had been correctly registered. I was in beta but never bought a box, and I haven't been near their site since OB.

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why this press release is phrased 'registered players' and not 'boxes sold'.
  • sneetch #22 3 years ago

    @Gaol
"Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why this press release is phrased 'registered players' and not 'boxes sold'. "

Maybe because a lot of people bought it by digital download? My two ex-wow mates who joined with me did.

I'm loving it, just came out of 3 wins in a row in Nordwatch take that destruction! Spanky time! :)

"Tell you what, I'll bet you £50 that there are at least 10 better games to play this Christmas than this creaky repetitive lagfest."

Because it's traditional: can I have your stuff? ;)
  • Number1Laing #23 3 years ago

"Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why this press release is phrased 'registered players' and not 'boxes sold'. "

Uhh, because registered players is a more accurate indicator? It shows people who have actually bought the game and signed up.

In any case, I'd be more interested to see what the numbers are in 2 or 3 weeks or so, after the early adopters' free month has expired. I do not doubt there will be some drop-off. However, I don't think it will be too bad, and I hope the game is a big hit this Christmas. I am very much enjoying my time with it so far.

"I gave Warhammer a shot and the game really does have some great moments. At the end of the day, though, Warhammer just reminded me of Warcraft. Feels like the same game but in a different suit of armour."

Eh. When I played Warcraft, a long time ago, the thing I enjoyed most was the PvP, as half-assed as it was. Warhammer is very much up my alley. I enjoy being able to do some PvE/PQ, then some RvR, and gain significant EXP either way and have a good time with one or the other.

p.s. I don't think this game will ever "challenge" WoW. But that isn't saying a whole lot. WoW is one of the top 5 most successful games ever made, and that might be undercutting it. Warhammer can have quite a bit of success, build up quite a large player base, and make EA/Mythic a lot of money without ever coming close to WoW.

    well im loving WAR.
the other night on Axe Bite Pass server a huge fight broke out in Chaos Teir 2 - Ostland.
reminded me of old Aterac Valley in wow.
must have been about 100 players or so from order and destruction.
Running battles trying to push each other back to the warcamps and claim the graveyard control point.
Me and a few guildies flanked the main Order attack and took out their soft targets while the Orcs and Chosen charged from the front, it turned into a rout, until they regrouped and pushed us back.
havent had this much fun in MMO pvp ever.

Ill be getting Wotlk when it comes out but ill be renewing my WAR sub too :)
  • orakio #25 3 years ago

WAR is simply fantastic. A game I would have given not more than 7/10 after the beta, and a game which I predicted woudn't have many subs after december...
But I have never been so wrong. This game combines all the best aspects of MMO's from the last few years and molds it together into a superbalanced joyous whole.

mandatory things t have fun though, are:
    - finding a good guild.
    - being social.
    - not being a powerlevelmonkey trying to hog rank 40 asap.

if you fulfill to the above, you're having a great time. :-)

Look me up on the Burlok RP-core Server, I am 'Kralor' of the guild "The Discord Coalition". I will waaagh the fun into those that are hard to convince ^_^.
  • Braincleaner #26 3 years ago

    Gaol maybe right.

in Dec WAR may have taken a hit in numbers. but in jan/feb it'll fill right back up again when people playing WOTLK realise that its turned into the same thing as TBC did only now their troll priest has blood elf hair.

-some form of badge system will be in effect
-their will be unguilded orc warriors with a lv 67 green axe and epic arena shoulders.
-AV rep rewards will sill be lv60.
-the '10 man for every25 man raid' system will kill casual kara guilds cos they will have to put in as much effort/nights as the hardcore 25 guilds to do the content, rather than one night they do now.
-the 'shock and awe' of a new gaming area will have gone.(remember the pit lord at the dark portal, he's a bit crap now isn't he?)

WAR will take a hit, yes, they know that, but it'll pick up again.

    here's to 1,000,000!

  • manveruppd #27 3 years ago

It really riles me when people call it a "free 30-day trial". What about the 30 quid you payed for the box, eh?
  • Gl3n #28 3 years ago

Just set Gaol to ignore if you tire of him.
    Everybody wins!

/predicts this gets shot down as fanboy something or other
  • Blackloch #29 3 years ago

Also playing on Burlok, may look you up Kralor ;) So far so good, will sub for now at least :)
  • Gaol #30 3 years ago

"Uhh, because registered players is a more accurate indicator?"

My point was, it's showing me and I ain't bought the game.

Anyway I'm done baiting WAR addicts for this week. I'm off to play 'Skinner Box Online'.
  • Drone #31 3 years ago

"Rubbish, I've hardly been near the WAR articles or threads since the review, but this positive spin needs a dose of reality."

That's odd, I've just looked at your comment activity and you seem to have posted on every WAR story I could find. Being negative, oh I mean adding reality, in all of them.
  • Drogul #32 3 years ago

It will not replace WOW, but I think and hope that WAR will be here for a long time. WOW's worst enemy its it self.
