Wada cools FF Versus XIII 360 talk

"It seems the internet is getting excited."

Square Enix president Yoichi Wada has moved to calm speculation about an Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

"It seems the internet is getting excited," he tweeted (thanks, Kotaku).

"Versus on the Xbox? What was said at the investors meeting was only that until the official announcement is made everything about all titles is pending."

That's about as non-committal as it comes, but it's hardly closing the door, either. What a tease.

Earlier this week, Wada told investors, on the subject of an Xbox 360 version of the game, that "We'll be looking into it internally until right before the formal announcement."

Final Fantasy Versus XIII was originally announced as a PS3 exclusive, and is a spin-off of Final Fantasy XIII, released here in March. Very little of it has been seen so far.

So he preempted Microsoft's (no doubt) smug announcement at E3?

unfortunately I think I'd have to pass if this popped up on the xbox. FF13 is the first FF game I'd never go back to for a second playthrough, mainly because of the utterly crazy way they designed it. the things in the game that I enjoyed were all horribly overshadowed by what they got wrong, and I imagine the sequels are going to resemble 13 quite a bit.

    ah well :(

Sooooo.... you told investors that it would be on Xbox? But don't tell anyone else 'cos it's not 'official' yet?

just don't make the PS3 version suffer if it is released on 360.

Actually I don't think it is. For what it seems to be, it could be titled Final Fantasy XV and it would still work. The story, world, and setting (not to mention the gameplay) appear to be completely original. I think the only thing that is shared between this game and XIII is the mythology (which is a very vague concept -- I haven't even heard a single mention of fal'cie or l'cie in information for Versus XIII).

It is almost as if SE have discovered the internet and that people wait on their every word.

    @Andrefpvs

Do you have a link for the information on FF Versus XIII or is it from what you've seen on EG? I'd like to read more about it.

Making this mutilformat is the ONLY way SE will make their money back. According to one of my mates whose a journalist in Japan, there was a strong backlash from the fans regarding the quality of FF13. There were literally hundreds of used copies on the shelves within a week and sales of new stock dropped dramatically after the first few days. Like us, I think the Japanese will approach the next FF game with caution. It wouldn't surprise me if they decided to do PC versions again either.

Is there any point at all of any developer doing exclusive deals? Im guessing SE made tons more money over the xbox port of 13 then they ever would from Sony for being 'exclusive'
  • miiiguel #15 2 years ago

I'd be very happy if it actually comes out on the 360 and definetly buy it day one. I'm not sure how my enjoyment can make PS3 users unhappy, but, then again, I never quite understood that territorial behaviour.

Currrently on my first playthrough of FFXIII - about half way through - and as much as I love Final Fantasy games I have to admit that this one is real chore to get through. The gameworld seems so empty, which is a shame as I think the story elements are all there for a really good game. It's like they took too many of the good ideas from past games out but didn't add anything new to compensate. And what is it with the dumbing down of the battle sequences? I want full control over all the characters, not just one. It all seems too automated - like the game is playing itself. So, with regards to FFVersus...whichever platform it is on, I will be extremely cautious as to whether I buy it or not

FFXIII is never going to be a definition of RPG genre, and what made it more sad was there are plenty of action/adventure games that are STILL fun to replay again and again due to the game design welcoming this.

FFXIII is story driven, with a token RPG levelling up (you couldnt really choose any other way and ALL gamers will eventually REACH the same combinations given enough time!). It was worth playing.. once.

FFXIII Versus at least doesnt have any expectations and that is a good way for SquareEnix to make this particular game stands on its own, as an action oriented adventure game rather than pretend RPG as FFXIII. After FFXIII I hope that expectations would be more realistic.

Sad that there are still plenty denials of FFXIII who blamed X360 for the way the game didnt reach it 'potential' when SquareEnix made decision long before to 'dumb' it down in that regards to please what they think Western audience want.

"It seems the internet is getting excited,"

If you do another half-arsed 'just doing the bare minimum to get the game on another system' port like you did with FF13 then I certainly not excited.

    Check out the sales figures.
The PS3 version spanked the 360 one in terms of sales.
But you would expect that since its a PS/Nintendo franchise.
I don't have a problem with versus going multiplat as long as we don't end up with a games worth of cut content due to the the 360s shortcomings like we did with 13.

"as long as we don't end up with a games worth of cut content due to the the 360s shortcomings like we did with 13."

Personally I think SE cutting content from FF13 was a good thing - I couldn't stand what was already there in the first place, so more of it would just depress me further. Also, I do doubt that content was cut because of the 360. I think it was cut for one simple reason - It was shit.

Well, looks like Mr Wada got what he wanted. Stir up the net to guage interest.. Way to go!

That's bollocks. The game was designed to be linear right from the start - it wouldn't have been any different had it never come to 360
  • geeza2020 #26 2 years ago

    nice insightful comment there ParanoidZombie.

Why are people so retarded as to think content was cut from the ps3 version so they could fit it on the 360? The game wasnt very good. Full stop. Nothing to do with it being multiplatform. Get over your silly little insignificant console bias and just realise the fact that FFXIII was a massive stinking turkey shit of a game because SquareEnix fucked it up. Nobody else.

(edited cos i cant work out roman numerals at this time of the day at work. blurgh)

Yeah, the linearity is clearly due to their desire to make the game easy to get into for casual gamers and newcomers to JRPGs. Also, the game was in development for years and the rather shoddy Xbox 360 port came very late in the game. Judging by the effort they put into the Xbox conversion, suggesting the whole game was overhauled because of it, makes the person sound a bit out of touch with the realities of game development.

Is this a direct continuation of XIII? I got really bored of XIII so I didn't complete it.

    Preposterous belts and buckles.

Does anyone care it'll be on Xbox too? Appart from the Xbox owner who didn't puke over that list?
  • Silverzgreen #30 2 years ago

Who cares if it's on XBox also? Exclusives are and have always been an unfortunate product of multi-platform franchising. The PS3 version of FF13 didn't suffer from the XBox getting it also, so why would this one?

    Why are people getting excited?

I was REALLY looking forwrds to FF13 on my 360.. Then after 40 hours i gave up dejected realising it was a pile of elephant droppings.

Why on hell would i be interested in FF13 vs? Seriously Did any of you actually LIKE the dross which was 13?

I know i'm not usually the voice of popular opinion around here.. I know my thoughts on bioshock upset a lot of you, but as much as i thought that game was dull.. FF13 blew me away with it's shitness!

It was BY FAR the worst FF game i've played (and i've played ff10!)

LOL. I can't believe that people still believe this garbage. Plus the reason WHY the 360 version looked so inferior to the PS3 version was because the 360 version was only in development for like, 6 months. It was basically a quick, rushed port. If the 360 version would've gotten more time than that, it would've been the exact same like the PS3 version. The 360 is very capable of doing much better than what 360 FFXIII came out to be like.
