Viva Piñata 2 demo in certification

"It's 25 minutes of the main game."

Rare has finished work on a Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise demo and it should be released "soon", according to the developers.

"Yes, a demo is on the way," lead programmer Will Bryan told Eurogamer for a hands-on preview published today. "As soon as possible."

"We built the demo from starting, so we're pretty much ready to roll on it, we've just got to get it through certification."

"It's from the main game, but there's pointers to the fact there are Live features and Just For Fun mode. It's 25 minutes of the main game basically."

There's no multiplayer to try out (the full game has local two-player co-op and online support for up to four players), but lead designer Justin Cook reckons the demo is a decent primer for people keen to see what the fuss was and is about.

"We tried to focus on some of the new things and make it a bit more focused than last time," he told us last week.

Check out our extensive Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise hands-on preview for more on the game, which is due out on 5th September, and look out for our review in the near future.

I'll buy it for the sheer greatness of the ad campaign.

I loved the first game so I pre-ordered the sequel months ago. I don't need a demo to tell me what I already know, i.e. that it'll be good. While VP: Trouble in Paradise looks to be more of the same, only with more Pinatas and different environments, for once I'm not going to grumble as the £30 online price minus £5 in Reward Card points from GAME make up for it. :)

Thanks for writing "Piñata" and not "Pinata".

Funny really how alot of people are picking up on the 'more of the same' thing. Isn't that what all good sequels are? Halo, PGR etc. You never hear this said of this type of game. Hat's off the Rare for following a sensible production schedule with VP:TIP. By all accounts they've made an already great game better...and it's cheaper this time round...BUY IT!
