Nice Munch Box reference. Man, i could totally go for one of those right now, and as a Scot I'm not short of places to get one. Probably best go to the takaway beside the hospital so my heart attack can be attended too :)

I don't recall Last Ninja 2 being all that hot when I played it over 20 years ago on my C64 so it doesn't surprise me that it hasn't aged very well. The trouble with a lot of these really old C64 games is that you remember them as being brilliant at the time but then at that time there really wasn't anything better, they were as good as games got back in the mid-80s. Now things have moved on rapidly such that about 99% of C64 games are just plain rubbish, sorry it has to be said. There are still some gems like Uridium, Impossible Mission and stuff like that but most of it is just cack now. I can't believe anyone would be daft enough to pay the price Nintendo are asking for them... IMO they should be paying US to play them! LOL

P.S. Nebulus was and still is a nice little game though. The sequel which I believed appeared on the Amiga and Atari ST was better though (if I'm remembering correctly).

I downloaded LN2 and finished it in about half an hour. I think it's because I still know the game inside out from my playtime 20 years ago. If you know what to do and when to do it (timed jumps and attacks, use of the "J" key), there is much less trial and error anymore, even with d-pad controls. It's a matter of knowledge, not hardware.

After all, the music still kicks your ass up to Mars.

Last Ninja Remix was better as it had the awesome Reyn Ouwehand music.

Nebulous on the other hand... gah! What an infuriating game! Destroyed 2 joysticks on that one cos it was so bleeding annoying.

I was playing some Super Mario Galaxy last night and there was a level that made me thing, "Hmmm, this is Nebulus." Maybe that should be Nintendo's next Mario game, Super Mario Nebulus.

Still kinda surprised by the prices for these games though. Considering sony charge £3.50 for an old psone game, seems a bit shocking that c64 games have the same price on the wii...

"Aging SEGA fans will tell you that there is a system to beat these fights every time"

Given that I remember this little cheat, I'm assuming I'm an aging SEGA fan. If I recall, all you had to do was to wait until the boss pulled their hand then you had a split second to change your choice and win the fight.

@groovychainsaw - Exactly my argument too. Nintendo are just being plain greedy... all their VC games are overpriced by 40% IMO. I mean £7 for an N64 game... sure they might have been expensive when they first came out due to being on cartridges but they don't have to be now! /rolls eyes

Cyacomini you remember correctly.

There was also a pattern that you could learn as well, depending on which hand the boss chose first, and whether or not it was 'stone'.

(Lots of people didn't get on with LN2's controls, hence the disasterous change for LN3)

Nebulus = great! \o/

Buy this.

Or this.

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-113-...

And play Last Ninja and Last Ninja 2 without any control issues. In fact, it's even better than on the original with above joysticks since space button and F3 is mapped to the joystick.

9/10.

Believe.

Not sure if I will download LN2 - although I have just really got back into Last Ninja on Virtual Console. All this moaning about the selection keys is a bit OTT! I've had no problems selecting what I need during the game.
Nebulus - cracking game.
Alex Kidd - cracking game..

Hmmmm no money :(

I'm sorry, but I'd be HAPPY to buy games with the quality of Ocarina, SM64, Paper Mario, etc. on modern consoles at full price, let alone being able to buy them at 7 measly quid.

Last Ninja 2 is my favourite all time game. Open the C64 keyboard and press J once and the Ninja moves in the direction the joypad is pushed instead of the weird starting control system. Then use the plus key for weapon select, minus key for items and your sorted.

Only thing I have never liked on it though is the boat jumps in Central Park and the crate jumps on the warehouse level. Other than that it is a damn fine game. I remember on the Amiga version they took out the screen with the crates in the warehouse.

Not forgetting the awsome music that sets the scene just right.
