"Yes, an extra 100 points has been slapped onto the cost of each game, presumably because they games are foreign and therefore the ROM file is heavier and costs Nintendo more to post down the internet wires. Or some such bollocks."

There's the matter of translating (or at least partially translating) titles which have not appeared outside Japan. Which is not free.
100 points = 75p extra. Translators don't work for free, although this Eurogamer staffer should consider it.

That said, this week's line-up isn't so great.

Gradius on PC-Engine has exactly zero japanese words in it, Golgo. Just like most shmups.
Don't know about Gradius II CD, though.

And given the niche nature of the titles, how many downloads will they get? A thousand? If that?

I think you're making a few mistakes on the Gradius 2 bit. Gradius 2 was actually never released in the US until the Gradius Collection on the PSP came out. It was released as Vulcan Venture in Europe.

I don't get these sodding price systems. Literally how much is 800 or 900 Wii points? I'm wondering how it compares to PSN's PS1 titles which are all about £3.50, non?

It would take something very special for me to buy any more Virtual Console games. I ran out of space ages ago - I had to move a game onto SD card (waiting...waiting...waiting...play Super Stardust HD on PS3...waiting..oh, finally) just so I could put the Wii Fit channel on. I have no idea where any WiiWare is going to go.

Who buys this stuff? I only have 2MB broadband linked wirelessly to my Wii - perhaps if my connection was much faster downloading again would be an option?

So I don't even try and work out the cost. Ho hum...

I MUST import a US Wii when I decide to grab one.

Anyone know whether the Freeloader is a worthwhile purchase, and will let me play all EU bargains that I stumble across?
