Vigilante 8 on XBLA this Weds
Vehicular combat for 800 MSP.
Microsoft has announced that Vigilante 8: Arcade will be this week's Xbox Live Arcade release when it comes out tomorrow, 5th November, for 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60).
V8 (geddit?!) is a remake of the PSone and N64 Interstate '76 spin-off that mixes racing and combat in a manner not dissimilar to Sony's Twisted Metal series.
As you can see from the screenshots, developer Isopod Labs has spruced it up a bit and as well as a single-player Quest mode there's local and online versus and co-op multiplayer, all of which is beholden to upgraded physics and "new obliteration effects". We look forward to those.
V8 wouldn't be much of a vehicular combat game without weapons, of course, which is why you can stock up on interceptor missiles, rockets, a cannon, mortars and mines, in addition to each of the eight cars' special attacks.
As with all XBLA games, there will be a demo version as well as the full 800 MSP release, and Isopod has already said the game will be followed up by downloadable content in future.
