Vice City Stories PS2 confirmed News

Rockstar has finally announced a PlayStation 2 version of PSP hit Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.

Relentlessly rumoured in recent weeks, the PS2 port has clearly been in development for a while, since it's due out in a month's time - on 6th March in the USA and 9th March in Europe.

Rockstar hadn't commented on any additions or pricing specifics at the time of publication, but if it's in keeping with its Liberty City counterpart, then expect a cheaper-than-usual cover price and the loss of the PSP's multiplayer options.

When did they state it wouldn't come to PS2? I thought they implied that Liberty City Stories wouldn't, and then it did. After that I thought it was assumed that VCS would follow its lead in time.

Nope, Rockstar definitely went to great lengths to say how VCS wouldn't be coming to PS2's, it's a PSP exclusive, so all go buy it NOW so that we can release it again later on the PS2 anyways, piss a bunch of folk off, and rake in yet more cash... gits.

Saying that, I'll probably still be getting it ;o)

I'd be very surprised to see them actually say that. Personally, I think I'll wait for this to come out and the PSP version to inevitably drop in price, then get that. They make for damn fine gaming on the go.

They never actually said they wouldn't release it, just something like "we have not announced any plans to release Vice City Stories for the PlayStation 2 at this time" which is PR speak for "fuck off, we're not telling you anything". pretty standard practice, really.

One thing you can rule out for now though is VCS appearing on PS2, with Hall toeing the company line that this is a PSP exclusive. "There are as yet no plans to bring it to PS2; we hope everyone enjoys what we've done with the game on the format it was designed for," he said.

I'm guessing the really bad framerates are gonna come with the game too. I played Liberty City Stories on the PS2 the other day down a friend's, and fucking hell it was a constant 10-15 FPS slugfest. I don't remember the actual PS2 GTA games being that bad.

they stated a long time ago that this wouldn't happen, and so retailers went ahead and confirmed that to customers.

well now the retailers are going to look like lying sacks of poo...

Sheesh! So what if they did or didn't confirm that it was coming to the PS2?

Rockstar make games in which you can dress up as a gimp whilst shooting police officers...and you're SURPRISED that they lied to you?
