Velvet Assassin slips into early 2009 News

News by Robert Purchese

9 September, 2008

Gamecock has decided to pull Velvet Assassin from October 2008 in favour of an early 2009 release.

This will bring the European launch in-line with the US, a spokesperson for the publisher told Eurogamer. And, handily, the move also avoids the routinely packed festive season while affording a little extra development time.

Velvet Assassin, formerly titled Sabotage, is the sneaky PC and Xbox 360 World War II game based on real-life British spy Violette Szabo, whose secretive and horrific past is relived while she lies motionless in a coma.

This leads to a rather stylised dream-world approach, which Kristan has seen running and says looks very nice. Worth keeping an eye on, apparently, especially in the wake of perpetual delays for stealth competitor, Splinter Cell Conviction.

There's also pedigree here; developer Replay Studios was set-up in 2002 by one of the founders of IO Interactive - the developer responsible for the Hitman series.

Head over to our Velvet Assassin gamepage to check out our recent preview and the latest shots and gameplay clips.

I'd like this game to be good, but the videos I've seen of it look terribly average so far. Here's hoping it's a bit of a pleasant surprise.

"developer Replay Studios was founded in 2002 by former IO Interactive staff - the team responsible for the Hitman series."

Uh, actually, one of their 2 founders used to work on "Hitman: Bloodmoney" as a graphic artist. That's one bloke in total.

EG in copy/pasting PR blurb shock?

Good since this game looked bad from all the footage I saw so far....maybe they will be able to polish it a lil with the extra time?

Suspect that's why they delayed - because it would die a horrible death when trying to compete with the other titles out there over the holiday season...add to that the fact that it's not finished yet and we have a winner for early lackluster game of the year.

This is that female-splinter-cell-ripoff-does-ww2 thing, is it ? The concept bores me to tears already. More noteworthy games coming down the pipeline already. This will bomb.
P.S. I love being wrong ... a good game is always welcome.

Maybe they will slip her intp something even more comfortable. This will end up like Bloodrayne or Dark Sector imo.

Is it just me, or does "Velvet Assassin" sound like a euphamism for something a bit mucky?

Quick update for those that have seen reports of this still arriving this year. To cut a long story short, Velvet Assassin will be submitted to Microsoft certification in December, which means we won't see it this year.
