Vanguard access this week

From Friday. $15/month, mind.

Early access to the full version of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes will be offered to players who've pre-ordered from 26th January at 10am PST (6pm GMT), Sigil Games announced overnight.

The official launch of the game takes place on 30th January, but pre-orders will be able to pitch up and hop onto one of the European or North American servers (there are no regional restrictions), as well as enjoying the benefits of a pre-order endurance buff scroll.

Subscription to Vanguard will cost $14.99 every month, with discounts available for longer periods of commitment, or alternatively it's included in the $24.99 "Station Access" subscription if you want to play some other of Sony Online Entertainment's MMO titles.

Server names are being listed on the game's official website if you want to camp out a spot, and be sure to check back here shortly after the game's launch to see what our intrepid heroes make of the early sagas. There'll be a review, like. That's what we're getting at.

Well maybe they can rip off enough idiots to get the money to finish the game?

They spent 5 years developing this bug-ridden mess, and it plays like a bad mod for Neverwinter Nights or something.

Seriously, what the hell were the Devs doing for FIVE years? Not polishing Vanguard thats for sure.

    Playing WoW?

Well actually they were playing a lot of WoW and a lot of other MMOs, this the dev. have actually said so. The game has great potential as it is enormous in scale and depth, but still needs a lot of work.

Well i dont know when you guys last played it but apparently the performance has improved alot in the past few weeks. I went on for the first time yesterday and was getting 40-50 fps but quite common stuttering around every 20 seconds it would stutter for a second or so when i changed camera angles. But once i did some tweaks from this guide i found on the internet the game runs near perfect with balanced graphics. This is on a 2.4ghz processor, 2 gigs of ram and a 7900gtx card.

I am in agreement with you Lanceret...yes performance has improved a lot and hopefully the stuttering you mention will go away with retail as I suspect it was caused purposely since the servers were under a lot of stress testing. I was getting fps in the range of aprox. 30 with a 6800GT 2gig ram. This on balanced settings which in game visually was pleasantly impressive. The work needed still to be done that I am referring to is, for example, things still not working. e.g broken quests, NPCs behaving incorrectly, etc. However I also know from past experience that these things happen in all MMOs in their early life and eventually all things get ironed out. Overall I think Vanguard will do well.

Im not buying the game mainlly due to its unfinished and buggy nature BUT I did have a blast with several lvl 1-10 chars in beta.

This is actually one worth keeping an eye on and may be playing in 3-6 months when they have fixed the bugs and finshed the content....IF it survives that long.

Ok then guys, if you say it has improved i might log back into beta then and take a final look. I'll forego my usual WoW sesh tonight :)

I really hoped this game would turn out to be great, i didn't dislike what i saw and played, its a damn-sight better than alot of mmo's, but down to its ambitious and granduer nature, the game seems like it has sperad itself too thinly and as a result there are lots of quailty issues. Not to mention fundemental issues affecting the progress of a game like losing deveopment funding (which is a very scary thought to any prospective MMO buyer).

Still, i'll check it out, BC can only sustain me for so long, and i do have my eye on a few games (inc. this one) so perhaps given a few months this could really turn out to be really good.

hence my "here's hoping!" comment earlier :)

Sadly Beta has closed...so you won't be able to log in.

    oh well :/

I suspect that there will be a free trial before long, and that would be a better way of seeing the final product. I don't want to come across as one of 'those' testers that only play beta's for a 'free' game. I do submit bugs, esp. to games that i like the look of, such as Vanguard. On saying that though it was an open beta, so it is a good basis for what the game will be like for its first few months.

I will definatly watch the forums and main site on this one and will have a look to see what its like in 6 months.

    Thanks for the info! :)
