Vandal Hearts for PSN/XBLA this winter News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

1 July, 2009

Konami plans to release Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgement on PSN and XBLA this winter.

This is a revival and prequel to the turn-based tactical RPG series that began years ago on PSone - 1997, if you're asking. The story follows Tobias Martin, a young man caught in the middle of a war. He and his friends fight for peace, apparently, and revenge - but have an uphill struggle ahead of them.

Flames of Judgement will have better presentation and a more accessible interface, plus multiple endings and a deep character customisation portion, which develops certain skills the more they are used, says Konami.

There's no word on price.

I enjoyed Vandal Hearts when it came out on the ps one, although it hasn't aged especially well. Can't say I'm too impressed with the art style on this though. Hopefully it'll play well.

Looks like a tactics game, not played any previous one.

I quite like the art, its distinct.

The first one was excellent, but I've not played it since it was first out. Not sure how it will hold up against more recent SRPGs.

Whoever did the art for this deserves to be shot. It's absolutely hideous. :-(

The first Vandal Hearts was a great game; the world was engaging, it had a decent narrative and soundtrack, and was never too frustrating. The second game introduced that horrible simultaneous turn system, hence I never got past the prologue section. Looking forward to this new one, although with some trepidation.

Edit: The art style is indeed hideous. The animated sprites of the first games were charming and full of character. Those new ones look terrible; bland and almost silly.

Couldn't agree with you more Agent_Llama. The originals sprites were excellent and I loved that they evolved as the characters grew in strength. As for Vandal Heats 2, that turn system was just dreadful and similarly I gave up not too far into the game. Shame.

What I dream of is a remake of VH1 for the DS , that would be so perfect.

VH1 was the first game that as soon as I finished it I just restarted it again, perfect !!!

Vandal Hearts on ps one is one of my favorite rpg's. It wasn't over complicated or over stuffed with useless info and tactics that never get used. It had charm, character and the right amount of strategy and also easy on the eye. Seen the new version and have to agree with previous comments the art work looks rather silly and almost as if it's aimed at 10 yr olds...Sort it out Konami!
