Valve teasing L4D2's Midnight Riders News

PC Xbox 360 News by Tom Bramwell

19 November, 2009

Valve has set up a website dedicated to the Midnight Riders, the rock band whose light show saves the day in Left 4 Dead 2's Dark Carnival campaign.

The teaser site (thanks Destructoid) consists of a splash image of the band and the words "Coming soon". Whatever could it mean?

Meanwhile, an enterprising young so-and-so on the Valve forums has uncovered a Jimmy Gibbs Jr. zombie hidden in the L4D2 game files - Gibbs Jr. being central to the opening campaign, Dead Center - and found a way to reintegrate him. There's even some dialogue for the survivors.

None of that will make much sense if you haven't played Left 4 Dead 2, which you can do now on PC and from tomorrow on Xbox 360. Check out our Left 4 Dead 2 review to find out why that's an excellent idea.

Anyone noticed in the 'properties' of L4D2 in Steam there is a DLC option?

Mine's got 'Left 4 Dead 2 Preorder DLC' which I assume is because I pre-ordered it, but what is it?

EG seems to be getting more spoilerific by the day, although I wouldn't call this too major.

No idea what this pre-order DLC is, hope it is an extra weapon. Apparently Germans got some special items in their version that we get if we play with a German.

I guess Germany was desperate for friends, huh? huh?

This being Valve I'd expect that the DLC will be free on PC and cost on XBOX.

...so although we can't play it until tomorrow you'll happily lob in a rather large spoiler for one of the campaigns anyway?

Gee, thanks.

This is spoilerific how? Who on earth is Jimmy Gibb Jr?!

And how does this stop the all important incredibly epic and indepth L4D saga of which we have yearning to learn so much more about from being any less enjoyable.

Guys, what story, come on. Stop being silly. You play L4D to kill fuck-tonnes of zombies, not for narrative, structure or storytelling.

*Revs up chainsaw* ROLL ON FRIDAY!

Amazingly enough, some people may well not want to know how one of the campaigns actually ends before they can experience it for themselves. This doesn't really have anything to do with "hur hur its about killing lots of zombies".

Tell you what, but that means absolutely naff all to me! I'd understand if Eurogamer had just gone and told you all how Episode 3 was going to end and that G-Man is infact your son from 80021 years in the future, but he just happened to shake hands with Jesus and make Gordon Freeman speak.

But this is nothing major, it really isn't.

"But this is nothing major, it really isn't." unless you really would rather work your way through the campaign for yourself and see what kind of finale the levels build up to, then it may well be. Nobody complaining about the spoiler is making any attempt to claim some epic "story" has been ruined; the issue is that the finale has all but been blown along with a fair idea given of what to expect from it. Some would prefer to keep the finales a surprise until they get there - to see one casually tossed out like that is pretty poor form imho.

Getting fed up with these spoilers EG. Starting to look at other websites now I must admit...

EDIT: If you've not played MW2, don't read WiseNail's comment below. Spoiler.

Paperghost do you know what the level builds up to and do you know that information because of what EG just said? Do you know how the finale plays out? Where does the finale take place? What do you have to do for it? Who are you working with or what are you working to achieve?

All this says is that some rock band called Midnight Riders is in someway involved in the finale. Nothing more. That Jimmy Gibbs info really doesn't elaborate on anything either.

I really don't think that can be considered a spoiler.

I don't get the game until tomorrow, but colour me stunned if (going off the clues above) it doesn't involve some sort of rock concert or stadium, a light show and (going off the "jimmy gibbs jr zombie" thing) some sort of zombie rock band who may or may not save the day with a display. While I don't doubt I may well be wrong about some of that, the fact that I even have some inkling about it kinda spoils it. I mean seriously, "Who are you working with or what are you working to achieve?" You mean beyond escaping whatever the finale is to get to safety with your three companions?

We know all of that already. What we don't want to know is anything in relation to the finales that you spend 4 levels trying to reach!

I also thought that this article contains a bit too much information. Don't care about Jimmy Gibbs Jr. but you certainly spoiled the finale of one of the campaigns :(

Got to agree with the general view on this thread, stop chucking in spoilers EG. Last week you ruined a surprise (for me) in MW2, and now your spoiling L4D2 before it even gets in the shops.

Next you'll be telling kids that there's no Santa Claus!

Edit - removed a spoiler in my thread (in which I was complaining about spoilers) - apologies!
