UT3 might miss November

Shoot.

Mark Rein has said that Unreal Tournament 3 might not be released in November after all.

"We do not know exactly when the game will be completed," he told forum-goers in response to questions about a website countdown timer that seemed to be narrowing down the date.

"All we've said is that we're hoping for a November release, but as you know we value getting it right over getting it right now, so there's no guarantee of that," he added, which is a slight change in tone to what he told Eurogamer at Games Convention.

Less than a month ago, when we sat down at the German show, he said the developer was "confident" of hitting November, but "not enough to say which week in November it's going to be".

However he was clearly pleased with its progress, pointing out that the dev-team was eagerly looking forward to getting feedback from the thousands of GC attendees tucking into networked versions of the multiplayer FPS on the show floor.

For our part, we had a look at it a month earlier at E3, and it certainly looked like a game reaching the end of development. It also looked jolly good, as our Unreal Tournament 3 preview attests.

Whether it hits November or not though, the plan is to release on PC and PS3 together, with an Xbox 360 version scheduled for "early 2008".

Odds on this ending up with simultaneous X360/PS3/PC launch?

but with all the other FPS games released Warhawk, Quake Wars, Team Fortress 2, COD4, Army of Two, Frontlines, Assassins Creed, Blacksite, Mercs 2, Timeshift, Jericho and of course Halo 3 - who is going to miss it?

Oh and I just noticed Alan Wake is now March 2008 - lol - it's another Duke Nukem!!

I stated that few months ago, it is in Epic's best interest to go multi-platform. Epic is Xbox360's lucky star. If Epic swing to PS3, 360 and Epic both will lose out.

erm... Assassins Creed isn't a FPS.

Remedy (creator's of Alan Wake) has a history of ALWAYS delaying their titles for like.. a year at least. Alan Wake is no Duke Nukem, it's merely a standard Remedy title.

A delayed PS3 game!!!111!! What is the world coming to

I personally think it's probably on track for November, but he's just covering himself in case it doesn't make it.
  • MasterGrief #11 4 years ago

Yeah because the 360 doesn't get delayed games

Alan Wake, Mass effect, DOA4, Blue Dragon etc

And oh yeah rember when Billy-boy Gates said Halo 3 would be ready for PS3's launch LMAO

    Always been a 2008 game M8.
  • Eraysor #13 4 years ago

For fuck's sake Epic, I've been waiting for this for years!
  • Vin #14 4 years ago

Clearly then, you've never heard of Duke Nukem Forever.

Just aswell they changed the name from UT2007 then really, cutting it pretty close now if they'd of kept it.

Mark Rein spoke again and he said that UT3 is still slated to November. His comments were taken out of context because he was replying to a concrete release date in a German forum.

However, the gaming media is sometimes too quick to report a PS3 delay whenever they smell the slightest chance of it happening.

it might make release or it might not, but it irritates me when devs cant stick to a release date .If you cant comit to a date then dont say anything at all!!!

Okay, I know sensibility isn't welcome, but hey.

    Xbots. Hear me:

    1) PS3 is still in its first dev cycle, for better or worse. This means there are very few (if any) ps3 experienced programmers around. Skilling up staff - however bright - takes time.

    2) Xbox is onto its, what, 3rd(?) dev cycle at least. There are alot more Xbox programmers around. Less skilling up. Less delay.

Its all to do with console maturity.

Finally... stuff you all this will be better on PC anyways >:-D

    @ Vandrius

Oh, absolutely. Agree with you totally on those points.

However, it's a bit difficult to tell the hordes of potential (and existing) PS3 owners that the games that are on 360 now or very soon are coming to the PS3 at some point - maybe a month or three later, maybe six months later - and expect them to be absolutely fine and understanding about it.

It's like with the original Xbox - delays and late ports were par for the course. The fact the machine was more powerful than the PS2 and several of the games on Xbox were the 'definitive' versions was scant comfort for many who had to watch their PS2-owning friends play great games months in advance.

Just to clarify - your statement and mine are both valid.

Vandrius: does it make it ok, for the PS3 owners ? Following your reasoning, PS3 has those excuses therefor it's ok...
